this morning NASA abandoned their mars rover Opportunity (aka Oppy) because it (she) got hit by a storm on Mars and it knocked her camera and wheels out and her last words to the team were “my battery is low and it is getting cold”. I know she’s a machine but I’m devastated. Oppy is the one who discovered water on Mars. RIP oppy ily space baby
they didn’t abandon her!! they tried eight months to reach her!!!! as their last farewell to her yesterday they played her “I’ll be seeing you” by Billie Holiday:
“I’ll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I’ll be looking at the moon
But I’ll be seeing you”
They love her so much and they tried so hard!!!

small ways to be a better person ✨
wait for someone if u notice they’re falling behind
if you have a moment of admiration or love for someone, say it out loud
give random song recs and send them things that made u think of them
be as kind to yourself as you are to others
be more aware of your surroundings and help people who seem to need help
if someone gets interrupted, ask what they were going to say
try to step inside someone’s shoes instead of judging them or labeling them
don’t say hurtful things especially if it’s not constructive
say “I love you” more often and spend more time with people you love
make sure everyone in the group is included
make someone’s day better by smiling at everyone you see and maybe saying hello
ask if someone is okay if you notice that they’ve been distant

Dear everyone who is currently working on a Thing, whatever that Thing may be,
Good luck with the Thing. You can do the Thing. You will do the Thing. You just have to do the Thing.
Best wishes,
Someone who is also doing a Thing
Self-care is not only expensive face masks or spontaneous weekend trips abroad. It is also dancing in your room to the cheesiest song on your spotify playlist, buying that overpriced coffee, painting your nails for the eighth time in a week, laughing out loud at a stupid yet relatable meme that your friends sent you, throwing that one notebook whose content you can’t understand against the wall and going to sleep, singing baby shark to yourself, reading something just for fun, giving yourself a ted talk in front of a mirror or spending hours on the phone with your loved ones etc. Self-care is anything that paints a smile on your face and it should be portrayed that way more often.
let love in. believe compliments. be vulnerable and soft-hearted. tell people you love that you love them. see beauty in everyday things. live life like you’re in a movie. don’t be afraid to begin again.
Dear Lady Bird,
When I got pregnant with you, it was a miracle. I was older, I was almost forty-two and we had Miguel and it seemed like it would never happen - and then you arrived. I loved you without knowing you, I loved you when you were just barely an idea - when you arrived at 7pm (after twelve hours of labor) I recognized you - I knew that you were my girl. Watching you grow up has been one of the most wonderful adventures of my life. You were always you, stubborn and funny and loving and competitive and brilliant. I wish we would be friends and I don’t know when it started to go off the tracks…
Dear Christine,
I know you go by Lady Bird now, and I think it’s very sweet, but I think of when I named you Christine, when you were born and what a miracle you were - and are-
Dear Lady Bird,
I am sorry that we fight and I’m sorry that we are so hard on each other - I’ve been too hard on you. I love you and I don’t mean to be so at odds with you. I’m amazed by you. You are so smart and beautiful and funny and I don’t think you know that I think that. I think that you are extraordinary. Every time I look at you, I can’t believe you’re my daughter. I wish we had the relationship that you have with your dad. You always were a daddy’s girl. I’d spend all day with you but when Dad came home you would be so happy. Maybe I was jealous.
let’s grow bby
good things:
- when a song makes you really happy - being physically close with your favourite person - knowing that ur loved back - a cute new purchase - having a new thing to obsess about - being excited - a new message from someone you love
You’re healing every time you
get out of bed because there’s something you’re excited about.
don’t think about people who left.
clean the clutter in the room and dishes in your sink.
smile at yourself and random people.
do something kind and out of the blue to make someone happy.
work out or meet with friends even though you have no energy to.
calm yourself down when your thoughts race.
remember to drink water.
don’t dwell on things you can’t control.
do things good for yourself, even though you have no motivation.
tell yourself that you’re growing from this, and you won’t feel like this forever.
be the kind of person that makes people feel warm and safe

you change people. your name makes others smile. your work moves people. someone might compliment you somewhere, right now. someone’s heart will beat faster just thinking about you. your friends remember your experiences fondly. someone might see a book in the store and think of you, too. you inspire others to keep going, or you will someday. your presence matters and changes the world every day.
