For those who don't know: it's a Bishova detective story.

Story Summary

New York: 1952. Katherine Bishop packed it in at the FBI to work in an office downtown. She'd say it was her choice and you better not drill any deeper. Her old mentor, Clint Barton asks for help on a case. A dead man in an alley, no witnesses. "A mugging," she shrugged, "it's New York." "No Kate, a mugger doesn't leave this." He slid a photo toward her, never mind the desk wasn't clean. The dead man 's stomach gaped with a ghastly wound. Next to it, a sharp hourglass, freshly carved, shone, even in monochrome. Meanwhile, Yelena Belova, the White Widow, hunts for a comrade gone rogue. When she realises a PI is working the case, she decides to keep her close. And kill her when she outlasts her usefulness.

I love when people offer their sympathy to you and they always say, if you need anything don't be afraid to ask. So then you ask despite how much you loathe asking for help and suddenly that offer vanishes with flimsy excuses and a promise to send more thoughts and prayers your way during your time of need.

Anyway, my mom died on Monday and everyday since then has become so much harder just to get out of bed. 🙃
