I’m lucky that like five people total know about me having powers at all. Maybe you should get a burner phone for your Flash shenanigans. Like a drug dealer. Or a hooker. You’d be a good hooker. Ivy hated being around normal people. Even in Arkham, they kept her away from others. Mostly because she had a way of getting what she wanted from people. An infamous beauty, there were several incidents where she had corrupted inmates and guards to the point they willingly brought her a house plant, a rose or even just a seed. That was all she needed to cause complete disarray but she was now on her ‘best’ behavior. She hated making herself appear ‘human’, wearing their clothes and thinking she was one of them. “Hey, lady, hey! How much?” She stopped as the man stepped in front of her with his question. As he rambled flicking through his notes, she could just walk away but where was the fun in that? She grabbed him by the sides of his face, much to his surprise, and planted a passionate kiss on his lips. Once she parted, she spoke. “Far too expensive for you.” She stepped around him as he seemed stunned on the spot. It was less than three seconds she walked away that he dropped to the floor, foaming at the mouth. As people surrounded him, Pamela smirked as she stepped off into a side street. She could stand to be around people again…mostly.

Cisco was not a ‘hero’ in the broadest sense of the word. Sure, he fought for good and helped various superheroes with their gear and had his own powers and blah blah blah, but he considered himself outside of most standard heroing activities. For instance, as he was walking down the sidewalk listening to some poor innocent woman get cat-called, it didn’t occur to him to step in. If things escalated, maybe, but Cisco being Cisco he wasn’t much good in a fight. He wasn’t intimidating, he had nothing to fight with but powers that could do way more harm than he wanted. Which meant he was basically useless. 

That didn’t mean he didn’t pay attention, and when the lady grabbed the asshole by the face and planted one on him he laughed before he could stop himself. He wasn’t close enough to hear what she said, but she strolled away from the dude and Cisco barely contained a round of applause. Behind her the guy literally collapsed, which was weird but the lunatics in this city all handled rejection differently, so whatever. Cisco watched the woman instead as she came his way. “Hey, so. That was awesome. And I mean that in the least creepy way possible, so, you know, don’t feel like you need to come at me or anything.”

Bart chuckled at how flustered Cisco got. “It’s okay. If I’m Barry’s grandson it’s easy to prove it.” He held up his hand and the flash ring that held his suit glistened. Then Bart sped around in a tight circle and when he stopped he was in his Impulse suit. “One Impulse proof of purchase, at your service.” He winked before speeding around and appearing back in his normal clothes. “You were always a good friend of Gramps so I wanted to come meet you. And I was right. Movies my man. We are gonna get along great.”

Cisco liked to think he’d been around metahumans - speedsters in particular - enough to have lost his general awe of them. But screw it: it was cool to watch them, it was always gonna be cool. Until he remembered they were in the middle of a sidewalk in public, and then the coolness took a dip. “Dude,” he hissed when the kid was back in normal clothes. “Careful who you go flashing your powers to. These are troubled times we live in.” But that was about as serious as he could get, because awesome. He reached out for the kid’s hand, hauling the ring close to his eyes. “This is...I’ve always wanted to see one of these in action. Compressed micro-tech, right? I’ve been modeling out blueprints ever since I first saw one of these in use. It’s my white whale, and I will figure it out.” He let the kid’s hand go with a pleased sigh. “Okay, so. This is obviously amazing, and I’m super into it. Tell me you know me as Barry’s super brilliant bestie for life. Oh, am I Uncle Cisco, or Godfather Cisco, or something awesome? Wait, I’m probably dead in your time, huh? No, don’t tell me.”

(📧➡bae #1): Well, I haven’t lost her yet but I haven’t been talking to Kara. Something went down in the Superfriends chat that rubbed me the wrong way and I basically hung up my suit for now because I haven’t been feeling like myself. (📧➡bae #1): It’s still in one piece, btw and is in this Star Labs, under locked down. True.  (📧➡bae #1): We do need to hang out more and you do need to see my new place. I know, but Im just not used to being in this type of mood. Okay I take that back, but that was when I was little.

(📧➡bae): Pfft. It’s Kara. It’s you. You’ll sort it out.  (📧➡bae): Whoa, see, this is why I say group chats are an evil that is highly overlooked by you hero types. What the hell did they do to you, friend? (📧➡bae): I’ll forgive you neglecting the suit. For now. But I’m watching you.  (📧➡bae): Listen, it’s fine. I get it. You’re sulky and not feeling like good company. I know how it is. I’ve done that before. Once. Twice, maybe. Just...you know I’m here for you, man. Gloomy or sunshine.

(📧➡bae): I mean, being human sunshine doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to have moods. You just need to hang out with me more. Also life is incredibly stressful? So that’s a thing.

Bart chuckled and shook his head. “Well, my grandfather traveled to the year 3000 and disappeared. But what else can you expect from the Flash?” He asked with a shrug. “They speak English. But the language of the future is called Interlac. I can show you sometime.” When he called him a stranger. “But you’re not a stranger Cisco. I was actually coming to find you when I got distracted.” Bart put on a creepy look on his face. “TO KILL YOU CISCO!” But Bart couldn’t hold that for too long and he laughed. “Kidding. I’m Barry and Iris’s grandson. I wanted to see who his friends were in this century.” 

Cisco blinked at the mention of the Flash. He had a set protocol for how to respond to mentions of the Flash, which was the same as the protocol if anyone ever said the name Vibe around him (so far, not an issue): put on his blankest stare and pretend he was suddenly unable to speak English. But at this point in the conversation that probably wouldn’t work. Then the stranger kept going, and Cisco forgot the protocol to go on an entire face journey. “Wait. Okay, wait wait wait.” He barely registered the joke of a death threat until the guy was already laughing again. He just stood there, trying to figure out whether to grin or look around for hidden cameras. “Okay, first of all...wait. What? I mean you do kinda look like...I mean, Barry who? What’s a Cisco?”

Bart raised an eyebrow. “Well of course I do. I’m a time traveler. I was born in the 31st century. So time travel is a delicate subject for me. So supporting all kinds of theories is just confusing. So many issues.” Bart shook his head. “My grandfather and grandmother traveled to the year 3000, had my parents and then they had me. I traveled back here.” 

The really cool thing about the times they were living in was that there were equal chances that this guy was either entirely batshit crazy or telling the absolute truth. Cisco couldn’t have been more pleased about any of it. “Wait, so your grandparents were from, like, now? And went to the year 3000 - which, way to go humanity, I didn’t think we’d get that far - and decided to spawn your folks while they were there? Did your grandparents stay in the future or are they here now? Oh, do they speak English in 3000 or is there some kind of planet-wide generic Standard language, like in Star Trek?” He hesitated, but nodded towards the coffee shop he’d been headed to originally. “Want some coffee? My treat. This is the most fun I’ve had with a total stranger in a long time.”

Bart listened to the guy speak for a while. “See you say that. But that’s not how the movie goes. Remember. If Marty didn’t get his mom and dad together at the dance, Marty would have disappeared. Based on your theory, Marty would have stayed because his parents not getting together would make another universe. But it didn’t. Marty just started fading till he had that sick as musical number.” He pointed out. “I wish they would have followed just one time travel theory. I would have been fine with that. Because multiverse theory is obviously the correct one. Believe me, I know from experience.” 

“No, no, see, Marty’s parents didn’t almost NOT get together because of a change in their timeline. Since the first movie IS a closed loop that means that in every single version of their story, Marty ALWAYS went to the past and hooked them up. That has a whole different set of issues, because it treats time not as a line, but as a Jeremy Bearimy kind of thing, you know? What we’re talking about with the Biff timeline is a whole different thing. I don’t think they totally cancel each other out, the Back to the Future movies support all varieties of time travel, which is really brave of them and not necessarily untrue? I think? Because as anyone in the sciences will tell you, there is one inherent truth in the universe: shit’s weird, man.” He beamed at the guy. “Wait, you have multiverse experience? That’s fun.”

Bart was a weird one. When a thought came, he had to finish it. It didn’t matter what he was doing or where he was. For someone so fast, if something came to him, he was determined to finish it. This time, a time travel paradox roamed through his head. Bart didn’t hear when someone stepped around him and spoke. The tapping of his foot, faster than humanly possible. Though he did exclaim. “Got it. So if Old Biff went into the past to give young Biff the Almanac. It would have erased his presence, meaning Biff could not have gone into the past. Making Back to the Future invalid.” He said with a nod. “Got it.” Then he realized someone was there. “Wait. You were saying?” 

Cisco blinked. He stared at the guy. He blinked again. “Are you on the phone, or...look, I don’t even care. You’re blocking the sidewalk over the time travel paradox, which is awesome. But you can’t just dismiss the entire premise of Back to the Future, because their version of time travel relies on multiverses and not one continuing timeline. So Old Biff totally still exists in Old Biff’s universe, but now there’s a separate future where Young Biff because Rich Dick Biff. Where Back to the Future goes wrong is in saying that stopping Young Biff would alter the future where he is Dick Biff. It totally wouldn’t, because that’s where you’d get the paradox. It would just create a new future. You can’t close the loops on time travel, because that’s what creates the paradox in the first place.”

It felt like about seventeen months since Cisco had left the lab, and as he walked down the sidewalk on his way to grab him some much-needed non-lab-made coffee he was convinced he must have looked like a shut-in. Pale and gaunt and staggering like a zombie, appalling the people passing him on the sidewalk. This, of course, was not true, but he had to amuse himself somehow. 

At least he was in a good mood. He was nearing breakthrough on his latest project, close enough now that he knew a coffee break would be good for him. Maybe a muffin, too. Muffins were brain food. There was probably gonna be a line at the shop, but whatever. Nothing was going to bring his mood down, damn it. 

At least not until he found his path on the sidewalk blocked by the back of someone standing utterly still, right in the middle of the walk. 

That was unusual enough that he hesitated instead of going around. “Uh. Dude? There’s other people in the world, and this is where they walk.”
