Hi there, i just wanted to say that it's really cool that you research fandom this way. It's kind of a brilliant idea actually. Do you ever share your results/findings?
I haven’t done anything official with the findings, but if you like you can take the data that’s here and use it yourself.
I just do it for my own amusement, when I have a question I want answered.
hello :) i saw your poll about who will be deans colette and i wonder how will thia even be determined? who saves dean from the mark? colette never saved cain from the mark he still had it afterall and was now even still killing people. i dont understand :(
I was mostly interested in seeing what people thought of the situation. Obviously, there have been strong feelings on the matter.
Personally, I believe Dean will have to do something himself, Â possibly with a group effort of those who care about him.
As to how this will ultimately be resolved, especially after the events of 10.14? Let's just wait and see.
I was driving to work this morning and it seems all people can talk about lately is 50 Shades of Grey.
So I had a thought. When it was just fanfiction, people liked the story just fine. I wasn’t really into fandoms at the time, so I have no way to judge just how well people did like it, but since I have become part of producing and consuming fanfiction, I’ve noticed a trend.
We all got some kinks, y’all. And that’s not a bad thing. That’s what fanfic is for, exploring things like that, being creative, etc.Â

BUT.
When fanfiction transitions toward mainstream, the criticism we try to avoid  starts coming in.Â
When Cassandra Clare published her Mortal Instruments series, there were criticisms about her work, but mostly about her lack of originality. Apparently, pre-success, there were allegations of plagiarism and cyberbullying.
Then here comes 50 Shades. I'm still not quite sure what got the ball rolling into the popularity it is today, but I think it had to do with someone famous getting their hands on the book. I really don't know.
As soon as it hit mainstream media, people have been both praising and criticizing the book(s). And that's when the fanfic community started their criticisms as well. With the movie preparing to be released, it's reached a fever pitch.
Il understand the problem with 50 Shades hitting the theaters, and how the subject material in the books has caused an uproar about the issue of consent and how it doesn't represent the BDSM community.Â
My question is this: How would your favorite fanfiction stack up under the scrutiny of the mainstream, and the community at large, were it to go mainstream?
Please select ONE of your most favorite longfic (let's say... 80k or more?) fanfictions and either reblog, send me an ask or submission, with the link or title/author.Â
It can be any genre, any fandom, any pairing.
After permission from the author, I would like to see how the community would react to any of our faves, and how they would stand under the scrutiny of the world at large.
Why do I want to do this? Because I'd like to actually see the difference between how fandom reacts vs how people outside the fandom react critically to our favorite stories.Â
I'm not gonna roast anyone, this is honestly just going to be a study of how people react differently within our culture, depending on the medium.
