there's no way people believe that spider dying for any reason, would prompt quaritch to join the resistance😭that kid is the only thing keeping him from going nuclear on everyone
Spider Socorro with OSDD or DID,,, I’m leaning more towards OSDD because it’s caused by less severe(but still very consistent) abuse/neglect/mistreatment, which lines up more with what we see happening to Spider during his childhood. it’s heavily implied that he was neglected; he was also lonely as hell as a kid, plus Nash was potentially physically abusive. the main factor is that Spider does not have a good, reliable support system. this is what’s theorized to cause OSDD and DID; since the child doesn’t have any people that they can rely on, the brain forms some itself, essentially. there’s a lot more that goes into it than that, but that’s the simplest explanation.
I feel like he’d cover it up very well; Lo’ak and Kiri would still be able to tell that he’s “different” sometimes, but they can’t figure out why. i need to do some research on if dissociative disorders show up on brain scans, because if so, the RDA would find out, and they’d definitely abuse that. Quaritch would be pissed about his son having OSDD; he’d see it as the Sullys and science pukes “ruining” his son.
I’m still thinking about the specifics; how many alters he’d have, how bad the memory barriers are, how easily he splits, how easily he fuses, if he’s aware that he has other people in his head or if he’s in denial or unaware, etc etc etc
Spider being a system,,,,,, thinking about this very hard at the moment,,,
The AFAA art book showed that colonel Quaritch actually has his own personal quarters at Bridgehead — a modular unit that was shipped to Pandora together with his body years ago. It has a work-desk, a shower, a vanity table, some top shelves and two beds.
Headcannons:
When the squad made their periodic returns to Bridgehead for resupplying and reports, Spider crashed at Q’s place. Quaritch justified it with being the prisoner’s ward and having a better eye on him that way.
Spider definitely snooped all over the place and opened every drawer, closet and compartment he could find, but discovered nothing interesting. Colonel’s apartment is sickeningly sterile at first.
Spider takes the top bunk, naturally, and Quaritch often wakes to him hanging half-way off the edge, his painted hand dangling just above his chest. He tried more than once to hold it without making the boy bolt awake (forest survival instincts)
Spider loosing his mind from boredom and turning the flat into a hurricane site as Quaritch is trying to get some work done on the computer (he does that on purpose).
Giving him a tablet usually helps though.
Coming back from the failed mission, the room became a cold reminder of the person now missing from his life.
Quaritch spent hours lying awake, looking at the top bunk, trying to process the fact that he’ll never see an unruly teenager hanging half-way over the edge again. A loss he himself caused.
Losing my mind imagining how each Sully kid would react to hearing about Jake almost killing Spider.
Neteyam would be happy to see him ALIVE visiting the spirit world, he’d just say that he hopes Spider keeps visiting but doesn’t stay forever just yet ect.
Tuk wouldn’t understand. How could she? How could she process the idea that Jake had a knife to Spider’s throat? How would that change how she sees her father?
Kiri and Lo’ak would absolutely lose it.
Kiri would be furious. She wouldn’t be able to comprehend why Jake would even consider throwing away a life that has clearly been blessed by Eywa, a child’s life, her friend, Spider. Yes this was a momentary lapse in judgment on Jake’s part and he did the right thing in the end, but it’s still a massive betrayal in Kiri’s eyes.
But I think Lo’ak would feel the most betrayed.
He’s the one that feels responsible for Netyam’s death. The one begging not to lose anyone else. The idea that Jake almost killed Spider would be a personal injury. How could his father take one more person away from him like that? On top of the horror he feels imagining the if the situation were reversed.
Meanwhile Spider would 100% end up playing devil’s advocate for Jake and defending him, expounding upon how reasonable it was to consider killing him and being like “no no, it’s really cool cause see he DIDN’T kill me. That’s love right there”
gnawing at the bars of my enclosure thinking about an Avatar AU where humans have wings and what this would mean for Spider. like. he’s able to join his friends when they fly on their Ikran. he gives good hugs. he leaves his feathers all over the forest and he feels awful about it because he’s tainting it. the RDA clips his wings when they capture him. his feathers are the only thing the Sullys have left of him. speaking of feathers, that’s how he’s represented on the Sully kids’ song cords. punching the wall rn
^he has the wings of an immature male house sparrow to me
Let Spider say real swear words please.
PREACH!
huge fan of when people write Spider as being raised by the scientists back at Hell’s Gate,,, like, those are his parents. I am also a huge fan of when people write Spider as not being raised by anyone. You can do Anything with that guy frfr
