ALEXANDRA BRECKENRIDGE as Melinda Monroe in V/irgin River 2.06
๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐ ๐ผ๐๐๐ย :
ย Having left the pub the minute he heard the commotion and routinely sending a Patronus off to both Lily and the ministry,ย in that order,ย James wasnโt surprised when people quickly made their way out of the pub, gasps of fear and shock following right after. He looks around at the crowd, his mind immediately going to a protocol he never thought he would have to follow again.ย Thankfully, he had downed a sobering potion combined with a pepper-up right before the dark symbol was cast, and hadnโt been drinking that much anyway.
As much as he wanted to jump to action immediately, he knew he had to wait for other Aurors to approach the scene and help clear the street. He berates himself for not having a uniform on hand, but then reminds himself that he wasnโt on-call and no one could have guessed this would happen. Not after everything. Not after the war was supposed to be over.
He turns around at the sound of someone behind him and recognizes Amelia, a face heโd seen often at the DMLE, and falls back to stand next to her. He looks around the crowd, hearing panicked whispers of disbelief fill the street around them. He turns to Amelia, swallowing his panic.ย โUgly, isnโt it?โ
โ
For the better half of the last four years, Amelia had done everything in her power to avoid dealing with how the war had impacted her. Throwing herself in to her work allowed for little time for just her, so it was easy to convince herself and those around her that she was absolutely fine. But seeing the mark high in the sky once again was bringing everything back quicker than she would have liked and just like that, it was as though she had never stopped fearing for those that were closest to her.ย
Thankfully the voice from her side was enough to bring her out of her own panicked thoughts. There was a time for being afraid and retreating in on herself, but this wasnโt it.ย โHideous...โ Amelia replied as she glanced over at James. There was no use in staring up at the thing, she needed to focus.ย โDo we have a cause for this? Is the Ministry aware?โย
WHERE: Outside the Leaky Cauldron WHO: Amelia & OPEN
Amelia had been half way through her second glass of butterbeer when the commotion from outside caught her attention. At first it just sounded like people whoโd had one too many in the name of celebrating, but the longer she listened, concern started to settle in. What sheโd thought was simply drunken antics, quickly sounded like panic - a lot of panic - and it wasnโt long before she was on her feet and heading out in to Diagon Alley to see what was going on.
Barely two steps out of the Leaky Cauldon, Amelia was stopped dead in her tracks at the familiar sight of green in the evening sky. Heart sinking immediately, she could do nothing but stare up at the skull-and-serpent symbol, the words โOh god...โ falling from her lips. Just like that, four years of peace and focussing on moving forward were crashing down around her.ย
WHERE: The Leaky Cauldron, May Day Weekend WHO: Amelia & OPEN
Unlike the Spring Gala that the Ministry of Magic previously, Amelia could absolutely get behind the May Day Weekend celebrations. With it being a bank holiday, it meant that she could get some well needed time away from work to destress and enjoy herself.ย
Amelia had arrived at the Leaky Cauldron when it had been relatively quiet. Finding herself a seat at the bar had been relatively easy and she was able to get comfortable with a glass of wine before other witches and wizards started pouring in. Glancing around to see if she could recognise anyone, she gave a small wave when a familiar face approached.ย
โHi, how are you? Thereโs a seat free here if youโd like.โ

Alice had to admit it was strange to see Amelia outside of actual work. So much of their friendship was built up on work. But, she liked it. It worked well for the two of them. Although, maybe she should suggest that they spent some time together outside of work. But tonight wasnโt the time for that. Hopefully Alice would remember that after tonight.
โOne would think you live a boring life.โ Alice teased with a little laugh. To be honest, she probably would have been living a similar life if she hadnโt had Frank and Neville. Alice was a workaholic as it was, so she knew it would be worse if she wasnโt a mother or wife.ย โHe has. Heโll be six soon. I canโt believe it.โ It felt like yesterday that sheโd had him.ย โYou should come visit soon. He misses Aunt Ameliaโ
โ
โOh but hereโs the thing, I absolutely do.โ Amelia replied with a chuckle before shaking her head slightly. She knew what some people said about her when they thought she couldnโt hear them, and she couldnโt exactly say that they were entirely wrong. To a lot of people her life would be rather boring, almost always focussed on work and nothing else. There were times where her choices would play on her mind, making her wonder if she should be striving for something - anything - that was more. But then she just remembered everything that she had achieved, and how there was so much in her life that she did enjoy.ย
โSix? Oh my goodness, where has the time gone?โ Amelia asked, taking a sip from her drink.ย โI miss him too, I definitely will or heโll be all grown up and off to Hogwarts before we know it.โ

WHO: open!
WHERE: the hogโs head inn ; hogsmeade
it was easy to blend in at the hogโs head if you had a hood over your head and no business being there. eleanor wouldnโt say it was her favorite place to be in all of hogsmeade, but it was quiet and there was no one to stare or ask her what she was doing.
eleanor sits with her back to the door to keep out of the way of the draft, a glass of redcurrant rum in front of her. sheโs silent, inconspicuous, her velveteen cloak hiding the pocketknife in her hand thatโs whittling away at a stick of rosewood. every so often, sheโll silently scourgifyย the wood shavings off of the floor in front of her, but mostly, sheโs laser-focused on the little project in her hands. itโs turning out nicely enough โ not anywhere near her expectations, but when does anything ever turn out as perfect as those?
a presence next to her catches her off guard; she jumps, nearly dropping the object in her hands.ย โ oh merlin! iโm so sorryโฆ โ eleanor finally looks up, grey irises scanning the figure in front of her.ย โ erโ hello. โ
โ
It wasnโt often that Amelia found herself with the time to visit the village of Hogsmeade. Normally one to be wrapped up in whatever was happening at the Ministry, it was nice to be able to do a bit of light shopping and stop in past some of her favourite places from when she was younger and still at school.
Having floated between the different shops for a while, she decided make the Hogs Head her last port of call before heading home. Stepping in to the old inn, Amelia glanced around for a moment before making her way towards the bar. Solely focussed on ordering herself a drink so she could find a quiet corner to sit in and enjoy it, she hadnโt realised that she had stepped a little too close to the witch next to her until she spoke out in fright.
โOh no, itโs me whoโs sorry. I wasnโt paying attention to my surroundings.โ She began to explain as she took a step back, turning so she could see who she had interrupted.ย โHi. Sorry again, youโre obviously very busy.โ

WHO: openโ WHERE: st mungoโs
A slow day isnโt something nikolai minds in the scheme of things, but today, the boredom penetrated every modicum of his being to the point where heโd felt his mind rotting from the inside out. it is the point, he supposes, of life returning to normal after the war that some of the raw excitement would go away with it. nikolai, however, just didnโt expect the day-to-day to feel like an never-ending succession of the same.ย
leaning by the waiting room, his eyes fly around the room โ nothing, he surmises, that he can help with, when he feels a presence by his side. nikolai debates ignoring them and walking off, but a beat later, he turns, sighing.ย โcan i help you with something?โย
โ
Itโs fine, Iโll just go myself... Those were the last worlds that Amelia had said before she had left her office in the Ministry of Magic. Normally when the Ministry had to work in conjunction with St. Mungoโs, there was someone else to do the running in between, but today the task had fallen on Ameliaโs desk. Sheโd be lying if she said that the chance of fresh air wasnโt nice though, even if it was a slight inconvenience on her day.
Arriving at St. Mungoโs, she looked around for a bit before deciding to approach the first person she could recognise as working there.ย โAh, yes, I suppose you could. There should be a package for the Ministry of Magic that I am here to collect. I believe that Miriam Strout was in charge of putting it together.โย

Caradoc was incredibly inquisitive. Some people liked that about him like his mums or Emmeline or some professors. Others found it incredibly annoying: other professors, his captors (when he was lucid enough, sometimes he had enough fight in him to as questions just to throw them off), and just generally people who didnโt like being asked questions - there were plenty of those.
Heโd heard that before. That he asked questions no one considered. He felt like it was all he would have considered if he was in Ameliaโs position.ย โYou should have saved time and gotten changed in your office,โ he joked. Sure, it was a time saver, but it sounded like an awful idea.ย โI think Iโm lucky Gringotts never throws something like this. Iโd quit.โ
His eyes widened and he resisted the urge to ask where they were both because theyโd be useful and just for sheer curiosity.ย โThatโs an entirely subjective question. Iโve been here for an hour, which is much too long for me, but might not be for some of those drunk people Iโve seen.โ
โ
Amelia offered Caradoc a small chuckle at his suggestion before shaking her head.ย โOh no, it already feels like I live here enough sometimes, so I definitely donโt need to start getting changed here as well.โ Sheโd be lying if she said that she hadnโt contemplated it that morning though. It would have been very easy for her to bring her dress in to work with her and then just continue on working until it was time for the Gala, but even Amelia had a line that she didnโt cross. Plus, having to get changed at home meant that she could allow herself to leave the office earlier.
โIf I didnโt love my job so much, Iโd be the exact same, believe me. Youโre very lucky.โ Amelia nodded before taking a sip from her drink. Sometimes she wondered just what could be going through the Ministers mind when he decides to host these events, but the answer would likely make just as little sense.ย
โAh yes, Iโve already seen plenty of people who are really enjoying themselves. Perhaps the trick is to just get on their level and hope for the best.โ
๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐ผ๐ย โ:
Evan nodded at her statement. He wasnโt a fan of the place at all, but he could especially respect someone not caring for the Ministry when it was packed more than the seats at the Qudditch Cup. He was far from aย โpeople personโ and seeing this many around practically gave him hives.ย โThat is perfectly understandable,โ he agreed, taking a sip from his glass.ย โI am honestly surprised someone didnโt have to put in an extendable charm on this room with how many people are here.โ
โI am having about as much fun as you are. People are alwaysย โfondโ of seeing me on a normal basis, and when I show up to things like this, they think I am here to steal chocolate frogs from babies. My gold spends just the same as othersโ and I am well within my rights to give it to good causes,โ he replied with a shrug.
โ
โAnd run the risk of the crowd looking even the slightest bit sparse? No no, the Minister wouldnโt have that.โ Amelia replied, only just stopping herself from rolling her eyes. She knew as well as anyone that having the Atrium packed full of guest was exactly what the Minister was going for. It would reflect well in the papers, paint theย โperfectโ picture of peace and harmony within the community while ignoring the more important things that they could all be working on.ย
โHmm, well no one is stopping you from spending your galleons here, Mr Rosier. And I can safely say that there are no babies to steal chocolate frogs from either, so you donโt have to worry about.โ She shrugged slightly.ย โIf approaching the donation table is, however, something youโd rather not do , I wouldnโt mind passing on your contribution on your behalf.โย
๐๐ผ๐๐พ๐, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ย โ:
ย ย ย ย IT WAS STRANGE, BEING IN A PLACE THAT WAS BOTH SO FAMILIAR AND SO DIFFERENT ALL AT ONCE. Emmeline was certain Amelia felt the same way, but she didnโt question her and instead eagerly nodded at the mention of the drink. โI think we could all use a little liquid luck these days,โ she said, a small shrug following the words. Even if it wasnโt true, Emme knew the power of suggestion. It had brought many to the wrong side of the war, but it also could convince her to have fun tonight. โOr maybe itโs just me, because I need something to help me feel comfortable out on the dance floor.โ
ย ย A small laugh followed those words, as the thought of dancing right now made her want to run all the way back home. Caradoc surely wouldโve been happy, though, if it meant they could leave early. โOh, you know me,โ Emme said, managing a smile. โTrying to have fun, desperately failing. My feet are killing me, but on the bright side, I do feel rather like a princess. So thank you, although we really should be thanking Docโs mum.โ
ย ย ย A tilt of her head and Emmeโs drink was back to her lips. For a moment she let her words sit, and then she nodded at Amelia. โHow are you? How are you feeling about all this?โ
โ
Amelia offered Emmeline a small smile, though remained silent for a moment as she thought. She had never been one to believe in the use of liquid luck, favouring hard work and creating your own fortune over the temporary boost the potion provided. But she could understand why others found it fascinating, and could see how they could easily believe in its power even when it wasnโt actually being used. And there was nothing wrong with that, in fact, even she would will herself to believe in it if itโd get her through the rest of the evening.
โTrying to have fun but desperately failing... Now doesnโt that sound far too familiar.โ Amelia chuckled, nodding slightly as she allowed Emmeline to continue.ย โOh, was it her that picked out the dress for you? In that case, sheโs definitely got a great eye for it.โ
โHonestly, Iโd much rather be trapped under a mountain of casefiles in my office right now...But so long as everyone else is enjoying themselves, Iโm happy.โ Amelia nodded.ย โBesides, itโs a night off after, so I shouldnโt really complain.โย

โOh you are too kind. I just am hoping I can catch some peopleโs attention tonight. I doubt it, but a guy can hope, right?โ Noah asked as her drink was brought to her.ย โIt has been far too long. I am doing as well as I can considering things. I have a gig this Saturday night at the Three Broomsticks if you have time in your busy schedule for a bit of fun,โ he replied.
โSpeaking of, what have you been up to when the Atrium isnโt filled floor to ceiling in flowers?โ he asked.
โ
โNonsense, you can never be too kind.โ Amelia chuckled, offering Noah a shake of her head.ย โAnd you know what? If you donโt catch anyoneโs attention, it just means that everyone here is blind, stupid and not worth your time.โ She offered lightly, though matter of factly.ย โGood, Iโm glad to hear that youโre doing well. And of course, Iโd love to be there. Just give me a time and Iโll make sure my schedule is clear.โย
โOh, you know me, forever working away on something or other. If Iโm not shut in my office all hours of the day, Iโm with the Wizengamot in the court rooms.โ She shrugged slightly.ย โSaying that though, I finally got around to redecorating my kitchen which is completely not exciting in the slightest, but itโs taken forever for me to allow myself the time to do it.โย

โIโm afraid so.โ Amelia replied with a half smile. She didnโt want the wizard to feel uncomfortable, of course, but it was easy for her to spot someone who wasnโt comfortable at events like this because she had her own reasons for feeling exactly the same.ย
โI see.โ Amelia replied, raising her brows slightly. She hadnโt been excepting Alexander to openly share such information. Even if it was just the smallest insight, that for a she knew might not have even been true, it was surprising to her for him to just put it out in to their conversation without prompting.ย โWell thereโs nothing wrong with that. The world would be a very different place if we never changed our opinion on things.โย
โAs for me, I like the idea of them. You know, itโs great to see so many people enjoying themselves,โ she nodded, taking a sip from her glass as she glanced around the Atrium.ย โI just donโt do very well with large crowds... Not anymore.โย
