It’s a fitting punishment for a monster. To want something so much—to hold it in your arms—and know beyond a doubt you will never deserve it.

HE’S TIRED OF RUNNING.
they’re looking for him, he knows it. after what he did in kirkwall, something unforgivable, after his actions ignited war and not the proper uprising he had hoped for... he will die if he’s caught. part of him still wonders why hawke did not kill him when he had the chance. it would have been easier for the both of them in the long run, and justice would have been free.
the sky had been torn open by some force known as ‘the elder one,’ and anders knows that these times are more trying than ever. if authorities don’t catch him and kill him, he’ll be caught up between a fight of rebel mages and templars or slaughtered by demons.
there is an opposition to the darkness. something called the ‘inquisition.’ perhaps he can go to them, but they are a military and political power that could easily turn him in. at this point, he feels imprisonment or death is better than running for the rest of his life.
he’s so tired.
the hike up the mountain takes too much out of him. it’s cold, biting at his face and any bare skin, and the snow reaches up to his knees. it grows more shallow the closer to the fortress he becomes, and the moment he reaches the gates the guards don’t have time to react before he’s collapsing from exhaustion at their feet.
everything goes black.
THE FUTURE’S IN OUR HANDS AND WE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.
VALERIU.
“Not exactly – I supposed I just notice more than others do,” Perhaps he cared more, or maybe it was a fault of his innate empathy. “Worried about the mages, or Hawke? Or … your extra passenger?”
` THERE IS NO need for me to worry about hawke, he’s perfectly capable of taking care of himself. though he is a good friend, someone who has stood by me, as you have, ` a weak smile tugs at his lips, though angular jaw remains tight and stiff.
` justice is fine. i’m working on a way to separate us without killing either in the process, ` lies! how many lies will you tell, apostate? the circle would have you made tranquil for saying such things. the templars may not be the most sensible, but they are a perceptive lot.
AND HE WILL WATCH THEM BURN, BURN, BURN UNTIL THERE’S NOTHING LEFT OF THEIR PITIFUL EXISTENCE.
shaking his head, he sighs, ` i always worry for my fellow mages. have you been to the gallows recently? more and more tranquil... left to their own devices. `
VALERIU.
“Anders… You seem troubled. Are you free to talk?”
` YES, I’M FREE. is my discomfort really so obvious? i just worry more and more each passing day, i suppose. `
There can be no peace.
