The three posts I chose to reblog for this observation response were breahumn220’s “x marks the spot”, sunthumn220’s untitled post, and ddiazhumn220’s “big yellow and open”. I chose to reblog these three posts because they are all different from eachother as well as my map. Breahumn220’s “x marks the spot” is a rendition of space in the form of a treasure map. This map comes with everything you would expect to see on a treasure map like boats, islands, and a compass. I chose this map because I wouldn’t think to make something like that so it illuminates the different ideas of different people. Ddiazhumn220’s “big yellow and open” is a map taken from google maps accompanied by a picture from google street view. This is the most realistic of the three blogs I reposted. I chose this map because it would be the most useful should I actually need directions from it. Sunthumn220’s untitled map is a cartoon drawing of the chico state campus. This map is a cartoon and not to scale but it can still be used as a guide around campus. I chose this map because its another reminder that not all maps need to be realistic to convey information.

X Marks the Spot.

For my space, I chose to produce a map in the form of a treasure map. Although the original and plain outline of my room exists within it, I felt as though creating an outline in this way might better present to the audience the feeling or atmosphere presented by the space that—from the allotted, general bird’s-eye view—may not otherwise be conveyed. In short, there is very little that occurs in my room by itself. As depicted, in it resides a simple bed, desk, and chair. To me, it provides a solitary area wherein I can escape from my surroundings and relax. By rendering it within the form of a treasure map, the juxtaposition of the simplicity of my space contrasts with that of the chaos of the surrounding area. The other areas of the apartment (e.g. the bathroom, the kitchen, etc.) are presented in the forms of islands because they’re unincorporated in the space that I chose to observe—they’re separate entities that, whilst they reside in the surrounding area, don’t necessarily pertain to my space. The “x” on the map leads to the bed because it serves in the primary purpose of the room: to relax, and I felt as though this was the best method to convey that to the audience.

Big, Yellow and Open

My space is in the front right sitting area in the house to the left. Taking into account that this is east Fourth Street “up” or north would be if one was facing the front of the street while in my space. Some important parts to look at in my space is the yellow house to the right that also is home to a lot of my friends. This house has an inner walk way separate from the side walk that leads to my home and space. Which is nice because friends are welcome to come over when they please and enjoy my space as well. With the inner walk way connecting both homes my space has a large sub space creating an extension of boundaries. Being that it is an open space its boundaries are up for interpretation, the part of my space that I write about is that open corner on the right of the house on the left. But being that it is an open space and both homes being connected all, including passer byers on the sidewalk, are free to peek, hear, come into my space. With it being an open space, this can be on purpose or not. I included the inner walk way, side walk and house to the right to show how my personal space is quite open in terms of boundaries and personally non personal it in reality is.

Here we have a map of Chico State’s campus with Kendall Hall sitting in the heart of campus. Notice that it is one of a select few that are comprised mainly out of brick and glass as opposed to cement and steel. I used the map of campus because it is truly where the city of Chico started and for many will ultimately end. The campus naturally creates its own boundaries that students and teaching staff naturally abide by.

Observation Post 3: The map I have chosen to use for this observation post is a map of Chico and its various bike routes. I can relate to this map because I don’t have a car here so everywhere I go is on bike. The scale I used is a city scale, it is close enough to show streets, and I’m able to identify where I live on it, but far enough away to cover some real distance as it spans the entire city.

For this observation post response I chose to reblog three posts; mmillerhumn220’s “sound of the Minnie airport”, breahumn220’s “Sounds of silence”, and eemanuelhumn220’s “the sounds of my room”. I chose each of these three posts for a few reasons. I picked mmillerhumn220’s post because it reminded me of my space, usually quiet with a sudden outbreak of noise every once in a while. For me the noise was the train or the neighbors, and in this post it was the ringing of the class bell and sounds of students. I chose breahumn220’s “Sounds of silence” for a couple of reasons, the first being that I like the title (very Simon and Garfunkel),The second reason being that I understand the post. I can imagine something like an annoying ceiling fan, making a repetitive never ending noise. The third and final post I chose was eemanuelhumn220’s “the sounds of my room”. I chose this post due to its similarity with my bedroom (minus the gossip girl and dog). I frequently have a tv show or music playing, and I can hear my roommates going about their days outside of my door. Those are the three spaces that I reblogged, and why I can relate them to my space.

The three spaces I chose to reblog are jaydivi’s “perspective”, jessicahumn220’s “home sweet home” and jared-browncsuchico’s untitled blog. I chose these three places due to the similarities with my space. My space is my balcony overlooking the orchards near the train tracks. I chose jaydivi’s because I liked the view of the outdoors, and the tree line was comparable to the view from my space. It is also described as relaxing and calming. Jessicahumn220’s post reminded me of my space due to the fact that it is a picture of a bedroom, and my balcony is just outside of my room. This is a personal space, which resembles who you are. Third I chose jared-browncsuchico’s post for a couple of reasons. The first being that it is a quiet space, somewhere to think freely, with a feeling of privacy. The other reason being that I recently finished studying with finals, so I am more than able to identify with that space.  These are the reasons I chose to reblog the posts I did.

Perspective This is a picture of the creek on campus from my perspective, which looks peaceful, natural, relaxing, and calming. So it looks like you have a perspective of my perspective of this pictures perspective. That’s quite a perspective.

Home Sweet Home

My living room is one of my little pieces of sanity, a place where I spend a good amount of my time. I eat, do homework, laugh, and watch far too much Netflix here. It is the entry into my home and that space that shows a little bit of who I am.

The library is a visualization of education in action. The fourth floor is where I usually spend my time, because it is the most diverse floor. Here we see my notes in the foreground, a tutor and tutee in the background, along with people studying independently, and a group working collaboratively on a whiteboard.

For the final observation post response the three posts I chose to reblog were “Open” by Marissacervantez, “Comfort” by shelbyraleyhumn220, and “escape” by mackdoo. I chose these three posts because of how much they reminded me of my space.

Open talks about the openness of the world, and all the scenery that is present from the space similar to the view of the railroad and farms that I have from my balcony. It later goes on to discuss Foucault and utopias which was my favorite of the readings we did this semester. I liked the concept of utopias and heterotopias.

Comfort reflected on the control we have over our surroundings and the importance they play in our lives. I chose this one because my space is near my room, its where I live, so I need it to be comfortable. I like the quote used in this post “life without comfort is like sailing without ability to steer” because it portrays just how important this comfort can be.

The final post I reblogged “escape” illustrates a chosen space being a way to get away from all of the stresses that we face on a daily basis, which seemed to fit perfectly with finals a few days away. This post reminded me of my space because it can be an escape, I can go outside without any distractions or anyone else bothering me, and just be alone.
