Post 6 Response: Keyword

The three posts I chose to re-blog are called “The Final One”, “Reflection Of My Space”, and “Keyword”. I chose these because I felt that they were very relatable and showed a lot of thought on where our thought process began where we ended.

These space all discussed in a way how they became connected to their space and felt . In these responses they all seemed to understand their spaces more and relating their space more to their experiences in class. As well as seeing their spaces in a different light. The posts were also spaces where they lived, like my space. These posts gave of the feeling of being more connected than they originally were to their space as well as being more grateful for their space. 

By the end of my posts I also had more of a connection and gratitude for my space, a space we all at first probably thought of as irrelevant or just a space. But by the end of the posts to us these spaces weren't just spaces anymore, they  were "our" spaces, "my" space.

Observation#6 The final one..

When it came to my spacial space in my apt some words came to my mind for example chill, relax, home, cold, calm. But I think i’m just describing my space but if I had one word to describe it would be cozy because anywhere and anytime I’m at home I feel cozy and relaxed, its the place where I can go to and enjoy and do whatever I want for example something everyone loves to do after tiring day is sleep. That’s one thing I love to do after going to school, doing homework, soccer practice and hitting the gym. Also what makes it cozy is I can wear whatever I want and nobody will judge me about the clothes I wear so its more like a judgment free zone a place where I don’t have to hear peoples thoughts or judgments about something they don’t like about what I wear. Before taking this course I never paid attention the space around me for example in detail I didn’t know that space and detail could be a a big deal. When it comes comparing it or tying it back to one of or readings or key concepts, I wouldn’t be able to remember from the top of my head but it would be close to a open space because there isn’t much furniture to cover the whole apart for example in my living there is only a couch and a tv it’s not like a whole decorated place that has mostly frames curtains etc. But now after a couple of weeks doing these space posts have helped me take into perspective about space observation  and to pay more attention to details and whats around me.

I find my space to be a good place to go if I want to escape the stresses in my life. If I am worrying about school or anything else I am able to walk across the lawn separating our apartments, and spend time with my closest friends. We listen to music and watch shows on Netflix. Sometimes we will...

Reflection Of My Space

It’s finally here our last post of the semester, somewhat bittersweet moment. It’s been a long journey and we are finally at the end. Okay, maybe I’m making it seem like we’ve spent ages working on this assignment. In all seriousness though, I actually enjoyed this assignment. It almost didn’t feel like it was a homework assignment after you started doing which I enjoyed. The key term that best characterizes my space is Freedom. The reason I chose freedom was because I felt that my space represents that term. I can do anything I wish in my room, I can move it around and put whatever I want in it. I get the freedom to do anything without anyone telling what I can and con not do. I think the concept that connected or spoke to my space would be when we went over Antigone. I think this is where it was mentioned that a space was within a bigger space. It got me thinking and I realized my space is a part of some thing bigger. For example, my room is a small space/part within the rest of my apartment. Making my apartment a part of something even bigger and so on. Which I thought was interesting, how this concept played a big role in my space. The text that I thought resonated with my space would most likely be Antigone. In my posts I often refer my space as my kingdom. I think this ties to Antigone because as mentioned before the whole thing about being part of something bigger. In Antigone the kingdom was just a part of something bigger, which was the city of Thebes. I kept imaging my space being the kingdom in Antigone and the rest of the apartments were the city of Thebes.

Keyword:

This is the last post of the semester and I have acquired a lot more knowledge on my space. I would have not paid attention to the little things prior to doing these assignments. These assignments made me realize that I was wrong thinking my space was quiet and the best place to do homework. The term that most characterizes my space is “freedom”. This word can have different meanings! With my room, I had the freedom to bring white walls to life. I had the opportunity to decorate it with colorful posters, and pictures. In my room, I also have the freedom to do whatever I want to. It’s my own personal space. Weather it is listening to music, singing out loud, or even just being myself. I could be my dorky self behind these walls and not have to worry about being judged by other people. My room post reminds me of “Corners”, and made me think why do I spend so much time in my room? Why is it that people decorate their room the way that they do? The Medieval Maps lecture also made me think a lot about my space. For example, why is it that I included all the things that I did in my drawing of my room? The Song of Roland made me think of the boundaries of my room. My room has wall boundaries that separate the outside hallway from my room. It also has boundaries inside; my side from my roommates side. This class has made me question everything and ask myself why it is the way that it is. This is a good thing because it made me realize things that are not so obvious and made me dig deeper.

Open Life

In this video I show the space I have chosen for the semester, which is the front right side of my home. This space is very important in the in that it is a location that many of the people living in the house spend time together bonding. This location is also close to the other yellow house to the right which also happens to be the home of other close friends. The video start of on the front side walk of the yellow side house leading up to the thin inner side walk connecting both homes that I also showed in a previous post. This sub space is different yet one in the same with my space. Like I had stated in my previous post it is an open space that connects my personal space, which isn’t so private in that it is open space, but is also quite open in terms of boundaries creating a sub space.

Once I reach my actual space I walk up on of the three entrances to my space. The benches I show are the benches we all living in the house sit on and enjoy each other’s time and company. These benches are also only separated from the side house by short bushes that one is easily able to look over, showing the connections of spaces. The video then ends after I show the remaining benches, the second and third entry way, as well as semi aerial view of my full space.

Spacial Observation Response #3

The three posts I chose to re-blog are called “My Happy Place”, “A Tour in the Castle”, and “My Geographical Abode”. I chose these because they were very different than my post. These posts were hand drawn and very detailed drawings of their pace. Mine is a screen cap of my address on Google maps. I like how they were creative with their assignment and drew out their space.

The map of my space isn’t as detailed as theirs, but my description was more detailed. They described their space through their art and detailed it with extra labels. I appreciated the extra time they took to add small descriptions. In all three there were extra details drawn in like; coffee, snacks, jewelry and flours. These small details added personality to their spaces which probably reflected theirs, being that it was their bedrooms, adding a sub space to their space.

In “A Tour in the Castle” the space was very detailed and open, much like mine. The space appears very organized and homey, something I find very appealing and important. “My Happy Place” and “My Geographical Abode” both give off this appearance and are very personalized. The fact that they are personalized gives off the feeling that they have become very in toned with their space.

I decided to free draw a birds eye view of my room with blue ball point pen. Although I messed up on my scale the room is easily deciphered. I tried to included all the big items in my room. My bed, dresser and posters are all the most important parts of my room.

This is a layout of the space I chose to observe. I mainly confine my space to the living room since this is a communal space where my friends and I can come together. We each have our own rooms and even separate apartments but having a space that we can share and spend time with one another is a great thing.

My Happy Place

I drew my map from a birds eye view because I think it best depicted the way that I organized my space and which areas mean more to me. I kept it true to scale as much as possible and added in small details of items that mean the most to me. I added in a coffee cup, candles and my record collection because these are things that make my days happier and objects that are constantly a defining part of my space. I think this map shows how open my space is, but also how it’s a cozy and comforting place to pass the time.

A Tour in the Castle

I decided to draw my whole apartment for the post, although my spatial observation is in my room. I thought it would be a good perspective to see it as a whole and to see where it’s actual location is. In the map that I drew you can see the most important room (spatial observation space) is in purple. For the most part all the other rooms are in black. In my space you see that my bed has a crown. The crown signifies the most important item in my room. My bed is where all the magic happens, and by magic I mean sleep. When I go into my domain it is the first spot that I head into and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In drawing my whole Apartment and highlighting my room I realize that my space is a piece of something bigger.

Big, Yellow and Open

My space is in the front right sitting area in the house to the left. Taking into account that this is east Fourth Street "up" or north would be if one was facing the front of the street while in my space. Some important parts to look at in my space is the yellow house to the right that also is home to a lot of my friends. This house has an inner walk way separate from the side walk that leads to my home and space. Which is nice because friends are welcome to come over when they please and enjoy my space as well. With the inner walk way connecting both homes my space has a large sub space creating an extension of boundaries. Being that it is an open space its boundaries are up for interpretation, the part of my space that I write about is that open corner on the right of the house on the left. But being that it is an open space and both homes being connected all, including passer byers on the sidewalk, are free to peek, hear, come into my space. With it being an open space, this can be on purpose or not. I included the inner walk way, side walk and house to the right to show how my personal space is quite open in terms of boundaries and personally non personal it in reality is.

Spatial Observation Post 2: Listening

For my second Spatial Observation I sat in my front lawn for a minute and listened to the sounds around me. Where I sat was for the most part quiet. The only sounds came from the air conditioning machine running a couple of feet away from me and the occasional passing of cars and people. The air conditioner ran at what seemed full capacity, keeping the inside of the house fresh and cool. While sitting there trying to take in all the sounds of my surroundings I would hear the passing of cars. They would come passing by scattered out, only counting three in my time there. They would pass by in what seemed like a single second and fall out my hearing range.

The people not so much. The passer byers would pass taking a longer time than the vehicles and staying in my hearing range longer. In the time I sat there only two groups passed. The first one was a group of three, chattering about their day and what they liked and disliked. My home being on the edge of the block the first group only stayed in my range of hearing for what seemed like ten seconds. The second group was a livelier bunch built up of a group of five. As they spoke they would all speak at the same time and end up trying to speak louder than the others in hopes to be heard by the group. And as loud as they came in to my hearing range they fell out in about twenty.

HUMN220-02 Post 1 Response

The two posts I re-blogged were, One-Five Oasis, My Room and The Castle. I re-blogged them because I felt they were pictures that represented the same sort of space as mine. In the post One-Five Oasis it is said to be their backyard and I also posted a picture of my yard. In this post they describe their yard as a relaxing, non-distracting and calming environment, which my location gives me as well. It is nice to see that other people also have a special place for themselves too. The second post I re-blogged was My Room, in this post they briefly talked about how they lived away from home and that in their room the bright air and sunlight that enter, including pictures that were hung, make them feel at home. They much like I did, took a new experience and made the best of it to feel more at home and make their new space their own. The last post I re-blogged was The Castle, which was a picture of the outside of their house. They talked about how it was a new living space and how they were excited to start living there. Much like its large open space I also am ready and excited to start living in my new home and have a wide open space to hang out with friends. I liked all of these pictures because they were showing new beginnings, personal and private space of their personal lives.

This is my new house that I’m stoked to live in this year. It has 7 bedrooms and includes this great side yard and I already am enjoying and can’t wait for all the shenanigans that will follow!

Observation Post 1: One-Five Oasis

For my spatial observation, I selected my backyard. This view captures the beauty in nature that I have easy access to at home. It is a relaxing, non-distracting, calming environment that will help me develop ideas and give me the space I need in order to be able to concentrate on the future tasks I will be given in this class.
