This is my favorite canon Drow art there is, it's from 'Menzoberranzan, city of intrigue' and it depicts a mother showing her two daughters Narbondel as the city's archmage lights it up for the day

Most Drow art shows nobles or soldiers being in some sort of conflict or about to ambush someone so it's nice to see simpler moments like this one

I think the worst part is that he just had to wait? It wasn't like he was already on a journey and finding the sword was just another task to complete, he just had to sit with the (literal) sword of damacles hanging over his head for years. Imagine the permanent stress from knowing that at any moment, you might be called upon to save everyone you know. You'd never be able to fully relax and you'd be in a constant state of tension and readiness. No wonder he stopped speaking when he had the eyes of the kingdom and the threat of a world ending apocalypse happening at some unknown point in time. Could be today, could be tomorrow, could be 10 years from now. Don't ever let your guard down.

Grabbing a sacred sword when your world is already turned upside down and you're on an adventure to save the world is one thing, but when everything else is otherwise fairly normal except for you, the harbinger of bad vibes, then your life is so very different. Being the Hero isn't an adventure that falls into your lap, it's all you are and have ever been.

I also imagine that the treatment of him changed. We know his father was a knight and brought him to the castle to train rigorously. Imagine he wasn't like that before Link pulled the sword. Maybe he was a little more soft hearted and relaxed with him while now he pushes him to his breaking point and even further than that because "the evil isn't going to let you rest either." And this all without so much as a hug as he's a knight now.

His peers (before he went to the castle) might’ve thought it was cool at first, but upon being told what that sword meant slowly iced him out as the thought of evil coming has them unable to look at him without resentment.

Though, they might instead start to stay even closer to him so they have a better chance to be saved.

The adults would definitely see him as an omen that evil is coming and it's coming soon. But since nothing is happening that tension and frustration builds up and irrationally blame him for it because "if you just didn't pull the sword, we wouldn't have to be dealing with it."

I just can't imagine the townsfolk dealing with it well.

The reason they don't react to the sword in botw is because nobody really knows what that sword is. The legend has been drifting somewhat, and a lot likely don't know it's a sword anymore. This does give Link a lot of freedom to just be himself and not be the kid that pulled the bad omen in this case.
