Coming out of the woodwork just to say, years later, I am so grateful that Carry On had a happy ending. I've been badly burned by queer media lately and I'm thinking of unearthing some old Carry On fic bookmarks to get me through these dark times.
You bet your asses that if I ever get good at storyboarding I’m gonna make a Simon Snow animatic to the song I Am the One (Reprise) from Next to Normal.
It’s gonna be an angst animatic about Simon grappling with the fact the Mage is his father after AWTWB.
I would like to preface, I haven’t seen or even listened to the entirety of Next to Normal, so I am very likely missing a ton of context.
Even still, this song is so Simon and the Mage coded.

I hate how the advice for avoiding burnout is all "if you feel like everything is a chore you're making yourself do, you should rest and do things you want to do voluntarily :)" like the fuck you mean want to do. I don't want to cook a nice homemade meal, go outside to spend time in nature, make cutesy fun little crafts, read books, or do any of that shit. Those are also chores I make myself do. Self care is a chore. Either I am up and making myself do shit that I don't want to do because people are making me and I am supposed to, or it's phone in bed. There is no secret third thing.
Calling all Snowvians! It’s almost that time of year again and we’re getting quite excited for the 10th anniversary of our beloved Carry On Countdown. We hope you are too.
The Carry On Countdown is a fandom hosted, month-long ‘countdown’ event to the Chapter 61 Snowbaz anniversary for The Simon Snow Trilogy by Rainbow Rowell. The event begins on November 25th and features daily prompts to help inspire all kinds of magnificent fan-created content as we draw closer to Simon and Baz’s anniversary date on December 24th.
As you might remember, our yearly prompt list always goes live on October 25th, a month before the countdown begins. Before that however, we would like to make an official Countdown Rules post for participants to reference now and throughout the countdown in response to questions we’ve received last year as well as years past.
PROMPTS:
The prompt list can be used in your original content as you wish and at your own interpretation, but if you have any questions or would like clarification, please send us an ask. We encourage (and LOVE) fanfiction, fanart, cosplay, memes, songs, playlists, crafts, puzzles, games, baking, fiber arts, etc.
SUBMISSIONS:
You can post all submissions to this beautifully sick and twisted website tumblr.com and mention us @carryon-countdown if you wish. Mandatory tags are #carry on countdown and/or #coc 2025 so the admins can do the best they can hunting down all of your delicious submissions.
For our lovely fanfiction writers out there, we also have a 2025 Carry On Countdown collection on AO3 that can be posted to as soon as the Countdown starts.
When using prompts in your submissions, we want to make it clear you CAN combine more than one prompt into one submission, but please do not post that submission more than once. (For example, if you want to use the Day 7 and Day 12 prompt for your Day 7 submission that’s more than okay, but you can only post that submission once.) Combining prompts also does NOT meet the criteria for joining our Page of Honour so please keep that in mind, and visit the Page of Honour section down below for more details.
If you are collaborating with another participant, or using another creator’s work in your submission (background for a meme, header image for a fic, etc) please make sure to obtain permission from that creator first, and then credit them appropriately.
The Carry On Countdown, most importantly, is about community. We share original art and original creations with each other over a book series we all love so dearly, and that’s what makes all of this so special. That is why the admins wish to state, as clearly as we possibly can, that we do NOT allow AI usage or AI submissions anywhere in this event.
PAGE OF HONOUR:
In order to qualify for our Page of Honour, you must complete all 30 COC prompts on their set days. Combining prompts unfortunately does NOT meet these requirements. Posting content for each prompt for 30 days in a row is not an easy feat, and we want to honour the individuals who accomplish that!
Due to time zones and such, if you post a submission within a day or so of its set posting date that’s perfectly fine. However, if you post a submission for Day 10 on Day 13, that’s a bit too late. Please use your best discretion; if you think you posted as close to the prompt date as you could within the time range, please apply for the Page of Honour once the Countdown has concluded. We would love to honour as many creators as we can.
In order to apply for the Page of Honour, please DM Raegan @carryonmybloodylovelies with an explanation/link of where to find all of the work you posted for this year’s countdown and how you would like it to be listed. (This can simply be the tag everything is under on your blog, a link to your AO3, etc.) You’ll also need to let @carryonmybloodylovelies know whether you want your blog or another platform (such as your ao3) linked on the Page of Honour. You can only choose one.

Doctor Who season 4 is so delightful because you can tell that The Doctor, on occasion, straight up forgets that he's sad and burned because he's busy being in a sci-fi buddy comedy. And then something will remind him and he'll be like oh! I'm sad and burdened! And Donnas almost always there to be like 'hi sad and burdened. I'm Donna' and he has a completely proportional reaction like 'i would die a thousand deaths for you'.
so my favourite trope is not just enemies to lovers. It's the idiots-dynamic.
No, not idiots-in-love (though I do love it) but when one character who is always smart about everything in life turns stupid only when it comes to their partner or their relationship, MEANWHILE the other one who is an idiot all the time turns into the smartest person ever when it comes to the partner and their relationship.
