STORY TIME: I was watching a Harry Potter YouTube video during a road trip, and I was having trouble understanding what the youtubers were saying. I blamed this on the fact that I wasn’t using headphones and because I was in a car on the interstate, so I kept turning the volume up. After watching the majority of the video, I realized that it was in Spanish... I speak English.

I’d like to acknowledge that, when it came down to it, Draco Malfoy couldn’t kill a person (Dumbledore), and I respect him for that.

On Pottermore, when I was sorted into my Hogwarts house, my friend was telling me that someone else should take the test for you, so you can’t exaggerate your qualities. At that moment, I understood something that many people have difficulties understanding: Hogwarts houses don’t exactly define the traits you possess, more so the traits you value as an individual.

My friends and I were discussing Harry Potter, and my friend that had only recently started reading the series asked for Harry Potter club names. One of my friends and I instantly blurt an answer, like it’s a trivia challenge. Of course, I say Dumbledore’s Army. My friend, on the other hand, says Deatheaters. We stared at each other for a moment, stunned by each others’ answers... I think our responses about sum up our personalities.

Can we please take a moment to appreciate the fact that in Harry Potter books one through five Harry was, in the end, wrong about something important, but in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry was right all along.

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry believed Snape was going to steal the stone. 

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry was convinced Hagrid opened the Chamber of Secrets. 

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry thought Sirius Black was trying to kill him. 

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry concluded that Karkaroff put his name in the goblet of fire.

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry believed Voldemort was torturing Sirius Black in the Department of Mysteries.    

But in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry knew from the start that Draco Malfoy was up to something, and as it turned out, his instincts were correct!

When watching movies based on books, I'm trapped between, "that’s a small book/movie difference, they could've easily followed the book," and, "that’s a small book/movie difference, so it won't bother me."

In English class, we were discussing the five stages of grief, which are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In learning this, my first thought was: Wow, I went through all the stages of grief when Dumbledore died.

I want to meet the characters of the books rather than the actors of the movies.

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry went to the zoo with the Dursleys, and the snake winked. For your information, snakes don’t wink. Either this is a deformed snake with eyelids, or this snake possesses magical powers that include winking.

In The Tale of the Three Brothers by Beedle the Bard, Death gave each of the brothers a gift. The second oldest brother asked for the power to recall deceased from the grave, causing for the creation of the Resurrection Stone. During this scene, I couldn’t help but imagining Death rolling his eyes at the arrogant request, picking up a random stone by the riverbank, and falsely promising the stone will grant him his wish. The second brother gullibly accepts the ordinary stone, and Death smiles to himself, giggling.

There’s a fan theory that Draco was bitten by Fenrir Greyback in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and I was explaining the evidence behind the theory to my friend, who was half-listening. In the beginning of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort asks Draco if he’ll “babysit the cubs” for Remus and Nymphadora Lupin, since Nymphadora is Draco’s cousin. Considering this, I asked my friend, “why else would he make that joke to Draco?” To which my friend immediately responded with, “maybe he wants to be funny.”

AU where Voldemort is secretly a stand up comedian.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, why did Barty Crouch Junior decide to teach Harry Potter, along with the rest of his class, how to resist the Imperius Curse? He was, after all, ultimately working for Voldemort. In fact, later in the book, when Harry was dueling Voldemort, he used this very tactic. So why’d Barty teach this? For fun?

I’ve read many sympathy post about Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series that explain how Draco had no choice but to follow in his parents’ footsteps. Originally, I agreed with these statements, but then I got to thinking. Everyone has a choice, Harry Potter understood this. He made decisions based on what he believed to be right, rather than what is easy. What I mean to say is that Draco most definitely had a choice. Sirius Black had a very similar situation to Draco Malfoy. He didn’t agree with his family’s views. The difference between the two boys is that Draco likes his family, and doesn’t want to leave them. Although this is difficult decision for Draco, the decision was there. Draco had many opportunities to leave the death eaters and Voldemort, including in book six, when Dumbledore physically asks him to join the side he knows is right. Draco argued that Voldemort would murder him, but as we learned from Dumbledore, and which Voldemort (and obviously Draco) misunderstands, “failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness.”

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Professor Lupin asks the thirteen year olds to decide on their worst fear to practice banishing the boggarts. Something I never understood was how everyone knew their worst fear, like it was something they didn’t need to think about. Myself, on the other hand, I have no idea what my worst fear could possibly be.
