I felt like Fabian was underused in S3 because he didn't have a clear storyline. I was wondering what you would have done to fix this? Personally, I would have developed a friendship between him and Mara, then their romance would actually make sense. I'd also have tension between him and Eddie throughout due to keeping secrets (Eddie the letter, Fabian regarding Mr. Sweet's involvement with the secret society). I'd also have him and KT as the last two standing in the sinners storyline. Thoughts?

Thanks for your great question! I totally agree that the writers didn’t use Fabian well in Season 3. His plot basically boiled down to missing Nina and being their research supplying plot device. If we were keeping with their decision to write Nina out in such an awful way, I feel like his insistence that there was no Sibuna without Nina would lead him to try and befriend those who were not “in the know”. Having him befriend Mara early on in the season would have been super cute and would have provided an opportunity for their relationship to develop naturally as he would be there to support her through the whole Jerome/Mara/Willow nightmare.

I personally disliked how the writers had Fabian and Eddie move on so quickly from the perceived cheating situation. It just felt really out of character for both of them... Fabian is a very stubborn character who doesn’t take betrayal lightly (for example the situation with Jasper in season 2). While Eddie I feel would be super hurt at the lack of trust and was obviously already upset at being shut out by the Sibunas

Which leads me to my next point... the fact that the existing Sibuna members tried to shut Eddie (and by extension KT) out was so sad. On the one hand I could understand their trained behavior to not let anyone know since that would tip off the adults and place the new person in danger. In this case though, Eddie not knowing about his Father’s horrendous past was not ok. The existing Sibunas should have stepped up and helped him figure out his Osirian powers.

Your idea to to have Fabian (the sole remaining original Sibuna) be the last one standing with KT would have been so poetic. It would have given his character more purpose and expanded upon the character arc that was developing at the end of season 3. That said... I can see why the writers had Eddie and KT as the last standing, since Burkely stepped in to replace the space left by Nathalia.

If I was to write season 3 (picking up from where they left off in season 2) I would have had a Fabina summer break up. Fabian would have stepped up to support Eddie and KT like he did Nina. I would have had him resolve his issues with Joy in a nicer way. His cruelty with her was extremely out of character based off the past two seasons. I would have had him grieve the loss of Amber and delve into the fact that he was the sole remaining original Sibuna. I could see him having a lot of misplaced anger over the abandonment of his closest and longest friends. This would drive him to hang out with Mara around the time she breaks up with Jerome. The fact that he keeps his soul until the final moments would allow him to eventually find closure and move on with Mara. I would also spend part of the season focusing on preparing the students for University. I would have loved to see another Prom scene and discussions of what the characters (particularly Fabian and Mara) want to do after graduation.

Of course, those are just my thoughts regarding Fabian during season 3 in canon. Season 3 in my Tears of Gold Universe will be much different - Evie
