Drew the drawstring dress

This is Drew. She is a drawstring dress. She’s being worn with a jacket for my first look. The jacket hasn’t revealed her name yet, which is sad. But maybe she’s just shy. Drew has drawstrings, so she can transform into different shapes. I like her, she is simple and casual, yet still conveys Emily’s concept. I like hanging out with Drew because she is fun and does all kinds of unexpected things.

Steven Boltanski

Emily stumbled across this artist the other day. His name is Steven Boltannski. All those poor unloved clothes have made a pretty interesting installation.

It reminds Emily of her toiles that are piling up on poor Ruby the Red mannequin.

Syb and her Purple-people eating sneakers

These feet belong to Syb. And Syb's feet are wearing purple Springcourt's. Syb loves these sneakers. She feels happy when she wears them. And misses them when she doesn't. She doesn't fall over as much when she wears her Springcourt's. They help her balance. Especially on slippery dance floors.

Revisiting Womenswear 2010

Emily's Womenswear collection 2010. Designed so jacket and dress can be transformed. Emily likes clothes that transform. They are fun and versatile.

Taylor the Tie-Dyed Shirt

This is Taylor. She is a tie-dyed shirt. She belongs to George. I am named after George. Emily tie-dyed Taylor and gave it to George for Christmas. Taylor loves George because he wears her all the time. And doesn't wash her often. Taylor doesn't like the washing machine. It scares her. It moves much too fast for her liking. She's much too laid back for the washing machine. Emily had to convince George that it was okay to wash Taylor. And that she wouldn't fade, but George gets worried that Taylor will lose her vibrancy. George loves Taylor because he loves bright colours, and Taylor is bright. She is also soft. And she was a gift, which also makes clothes more loveable.

Howies

Howies is an outdoor clothing brand that makes people love their clothes. They tell stories through their clothes. Stories of how the garment was made, where it was made, what it was made from. Emily thinks transparency in the production phase is important. Hopefully people will love their clothing more if they know more about who it is, it's history and and where it came from.

My new friends

Emily has started toiling. It is exciting because now I have some interesting new friends to hang out with. Drawstrings and giant pocket bags transform the silhouettes of my new friends. They only just arrived so I haven't gotten to know them very well. I haven't even asked their names yet! But I think they might be sticking around for a while, so I should get to know them a little better.

Garments with heart

Emily wants people to connect her collection - emotionally. They will have elements that will cause them to be percieved as personified. Some will have hearts. Whether it is embroidery on the sleeve or a print in the lining of a jacket that represents the 'heart and veins' of the piece.

Marc and Jack&Jones

Marc loves Jack&Jones. He told me it is a Danish brand. He likes this brand because their clothes fit him well. He also likes the style of their clothes. They are also comfortable. He likes the price too. The price is also good. He owns lots of Jack&Jones clothing. It starts from the bottom with shoes. He even owns Jack&Jones trunks (he uses the funny word 'trunks'). He also owns shirts, hoodies, jackets, scarves, headphones, pants and jeans. He likes the jeans best. He is wearing one of their shirts right now, as I speak to him. Digital print ideas

Emily is experimenting with photos of her grandparents skin and Photoshop. It generates interesting print ideas and concepts.

Shape development

Emily has been experimenting with shapes through drape this week. She wants things to gape and fall. And transform by gaping and falling more. Seams will be curved. More organic that way. Like the curves of the body.

Setting goals

Emily's mission for the weekend. One trillion designs. Wish her luck.

Shades of nude

It was suggested that Emily's colour palette should be based on different variations in skin tone. This scares Emily a little bit, because she likes colour. But with a bit of research she has realised that it can be done and done really nicely. This is the work of Julian Louie.
