this interview with minoru ikeda, regarding the history, present and future of shooting games ends with the suggestion that “arcades should start getting involved in content creation themselves from now on”, which i think could lead to a lot of interesting stuff, theoretically.

in the fantasies in which i ownn an arcade, along with filling it with cool games that also exist, an idea i think would be cool would be encouraging local game development students and hobbyists to create games through themed contests, with prizes obviously including a cabinet being made of winning games and being featured in the arcade. it would not only encourage new ideas and more interest in arcade-style game design, but if there was an arcade in every town, and they all did similar stuff, it would make every arcade unique.
