just an aesthetic?

Why is it that my culture is just a simple aesthetic? My heritage comes from the land of five rivers. My wrists are adorn with bangles. My hair is dark like a starless night sky. I live where the buildings tower over us and the bridges stand tall, where it doesn’t take any source of light to spark us up. Yet I stand here and watch this world slowly rot away. 

A beauty with green dazzling eyes and milky skin on a front cover of a desi bridal pamphlet wearing a blood red lengha. Why is my brown skin not acceptable? why is brown skin not acceptable? why is dark skin not acceptable? why is a hijab not acceptable? our hearts all beat the same way...but why is the color of our skin any different? why must our culture be a simple aesthetic if our people do not have the right on the land of the free? are we not human? are humans the one with lighter skin? or are humans the one with the same beating heart?
