Shin Ha Kyun is SUCH an amazing actor!
Shin Ha Kyun is SUCH an amazing actor!
Save me king hakyun
biggest tragedy of the 21st century is that we never got a photo shoot like this with hakyun and jingoo
Even though Jingoo and Hakyun are almost of a height, their builds are completly opposite of each other. Jingoo is very solidly built even if he isn't particularly tall, and Hakyun is so very slender. Even when he works out for a role he doesn't become much "larger" as much as more "defined, especially compared to Jingoo who seems to have a body that naturally wants to be about as wide as it is tall.
Here they are in Beyond Evil
But if we don't constrain ourselves to that, we also have these examples:
Look at that thickness (and this is from before he bulked up)
Now look at this.
When I encounter Joowon casually sitting in Dongsik's lap in fanfics I'm always taken a little out of the story, imagining poor Dongsik being crushed but unable to say anything.
Height isn't everything when it comes to size difference after all.
Their size difference is slightly obscured by Dongsik favouring layers and puffy jackets and clothes that are simply too big for him, whereas Joowon tends to wear simple clothing tailored to his body, thus adding less bulk to his silhouette
But it is there
I just love this image of petit and slender Dongsik who has been getting into physical fights more or less his entire life, who has both formal training and experience on his side, and who knows how to quickly strike exactly where it hurts the most, like a vicious little terrier, while Joowon is just like, an immovable, thick wall with a stick (police baton) in his hand, which is more than enough.
I’VE BEEN SAYING THIS
HAKYUN IS SO BABYGIRL HE NEEDS JINGOO (SPECIFICALLY) TO CARRY HIM LIKE THE PRETTY PRINCESS HE IS
using a toy police car to demonstrate what happened to yuyeon… diabolical intentional choice. love it
Beyond Evil's impact on my life is so intense i randomly hear han joowon's disembodied voice saying "Lee Dongsik-ssi" as well as get unprompted visions of ep16 Lee Dongsik's smile.
beyond evil is life
im genuenly surprised doyeong didnt end up fuckking dongsoo cuz bro those two were just inches from doing so
Han Juwon has service top energy I will not let top Dongsik sway me from the truth. That old man is a bottom.
My Five Headcanons for Beyond Evil (because I apparently just enjoy 🎶 pain and suffering 🎶)
1.) It’s almost five years before Dongsik can go visit Jeongje in the mental institution on his own. He’s learned what the limits of his mercy are, and so for those first five years he brings people with him when he goes. It’s usually just him and Jihwa, so it’s not bad; they sit together in an atrium open to visitors and talk for a while about what’s new in Manyang while Jeongje sketches. During one particularly bad day, Juwon’s lingering insecurity and guilt complex makes him confront Dongsik over whether his own offers to come along to these visits have been rejected because it would be Dongsik sitting with two reminders of Yuyeon’s death: the son of the man who ran over his sister, and the other man who ran over his sister. Dongsik explains (gently) that his worry is over triggers of a different kind. Because back when they were still flirting with (investigating) each other, he’d called in a few favors to figure out certain sealed parts of Juwon’s family history. During visiting hours, the atrium is full of institutionalized women who are about his mother’s age, as well as their visiting families.
2.) Kwon Hyuk is a survivor. Ambition requires adaptability. He bounces back from setbacks and disappointments (like his mentor/father figure), and he cuts people out of his life if they threaten his progress forward (see: previous). Rich people are tools that can be used or discarded along the way, except for one (1) poor little rich boy with a bad attitude who nevertheless starts calling him hyung one day when he’s fourteen. So while it doesn’t make sense for his career to continue a relationship with a demoted officer who abandons ambition and voluntarily (???) gives up one bad job in a small town for a worse job in a smaller town, deep down Kwon Hyuk knows that he’s hanging on to Han Juwon (hyung’s rules, nonnegotiable, die mad about it Juwonnie).
3.) The first time Juwon laughs—like, fully and genuinely laughs—in front of Dongsik is when they’re at the Chief’s lake-house one evening in early spring. They’ve had a couple of drinks and Dongsik is trying to show a cringing Juwon his interpretation of a Stray Kids dance choreo out at the edge of the water when he accidentally trips over his own fishing line. He stumbles for a few steps then star-fishes into the muddiest part of the water half way through the chorus, but the water’s shallow so he surfaces fast like a playful dog, shaking his hair out cheerfully. He’s just opening his mouth to claim it’s all part of the dance routine when he hears a soft sound from behind him. Juwon has waded into the water with a hand extended to help him up, and he’s laughing, and Dongsik finds himself at a rare loss for words. Juwon’s face is lit up, eyes scrunched and shining, with one arm pressed over his mouth, like he’s used to muffling the sound. So naturally, when Dongsik accepts the outstretched hand and pulls himself up, his next move is to gently tug Juwon’s other arm away from his face so he can get the full view. He has a mental picture of each person he loves, here and gone alike, and for the rest of his life the picture of Juwon that exists in his mind’s eye is of this moment, Juwon standing in front of him calf-deep in muddy water and laughing breathlessly, enveloped in the golden hour haze of the sun setting behind him.
4.) Jihoon accidentally becomes the mayor of Manyang.
5.) Once Han Gihwan finally dies, his life insurance payout is sent to Juwon, who goes wandering in the reeds for a few hours. Dongsik sits in his car on a hill nearby, giving space but making sure Juwon doesn’t ever fully disappear from his sight, and answering Juwon’s phone to field calls on his behalf. Juwon eventually comes back to the car and tells Dongsik that he’s going to use the money as a foundation for a women’s shelter. Dongsik approves, and names the shelter Balsam Flower Home.
Love all these heavy descriptive headcannons and then there is Jihoon becoming fucking mayor 😭

jwds wherein dongsik notices how juwon treats him differently compared to others within the manyang crew like:
jihoon asked him one day to ask juwon, who was changing at the sleeping quarters, if juwon has an extra pack of tissue on him. dongsik tells jihoon to ask juwon himself but jihoon says "juwon only says yes to you, hyung."
of course dongsik denied that but jihoon really did ask juwon for a pack of tissue and juwon says he doesn't have one. come evening, before they clock out, juwon noticed dongsik's hand covered with stray pen marks. "don't mind it. i'll wash my hands at jaeyi's." dongsik waved juwon's concern but juwon opened his drawer and picked a small pack of wet wipes from a set of three, opened it, and wiped dongsik's hand himself.
dongsik looked around and met jihoon's gaze that was saying i told you so.
another instance. they're meeting at jaeyi's shop for their usual dinner get together and dongsik's helping jaeyi set up the table.
"remove the ones on juwon's seat," jaeyi suddenly said as dongsik finished setting.
"why?"
"he only uses shared things when you give it to him."
"that's not true." surely that's not true.
jaeyi fixed a look to him and said "watch me." a challenge. she placed back the removed utensils on juwon's seat.
later, juwon was the last to arrive just as they're starting to eat. as usual, he sat between dongsik and jihoon. the menu was grilled meat and their usual choice of jjigae; budaejjigae, which is something juwon eats but he doesn't pick up his utensils and simply joined the conversation.
"aren't you gonna eat, inspector han?" jihwa asked.
"later," was what juwon replied.
several minutes later, dongsik felt jaeyi kicking his feet for attention. she looked at him and gestured at the food then at juwon. and because dongsik's sure juwon's not gonna accept what he'll give, dongsik filled the bowl a bit of budaejjigae and a couple pieces of meat.
"eat just a bit, juwon-ah. i worked hard to set up the table and helped jaeyi with cooking, you know." dongsik picked up the chopsticks and pushed the filled bowl and chopsticks to juwon. a pause, then juwon accepted the food silently.
dongsik felt another kick in his feet from jaeyi and she gave him a smug look.
another instance. dongsik gives the car keys to jihwa. "go drive juwon's car. i'll go with mine. let's meet the others at the scene."
"what, no. i cant drive his car." jihwa pushed the car keys to dongsik's chest and snatched the other car key from his hand. "i'll drive yours. you drive his."
"why can't you drive his car?" dongsik asked.
"he doesnt let anyone drive his car, okay. i offered to drive him home when he was drunk one time and he said he doesnt let anyone drive his car. said its dirty." jihwa pushed dongsik away and opened the door to his car.
"but i-"
"what, but you drove it? you've always been the exception, dongsik." jihwa shook her head then closed the car door and drove off.
I'm not sure that there is even a smallest chance to have the second season of Beyond evil but if there is I'm all in like 100%. but unfortunately the thing is that BE is all drama and tragedy and suffering and I really don't want this beautiful people to suffer more than they had already endured. and I don't believe that there is even a possibility to create the second season as a romcom/slice of life. so I think what I would like to see is the story of other people: different small town with their own local mad men and skeletons in every second closet. but I would like to see some cameos, maybe hints of the lives of Manyang gang. Like you know Jaeyi opening a new successful place and pursuing restauranteur career or maybe Oh Jihwa getting a promotion and people talking about it how good a detective she is, maybe something about Dosu's daughter like how she loves her family and her aunties and uncles and especially uncle Juwon. Maybe, I don't know, jwds kissing in the background.
Well you know,
small hints.
watching beyond evil. I'd heard the rumors but by god this show is very gay. shin hakyun's sad eyes were made to maintain intense homoerotic eye contact with a guy.
Thinking about how Joowon is canonically a virgin, but that also that Dongsik probably is ass well, or as good as. Man won't even let himself have a pillow when he sleeps, and you want me to believe that he would seek out a self-indulgence like sex? He probably hasn't even masturbated in years. What I'm trying to say is that their first time is going to be a disaster lmao
making my return with another "i watched something and i don't know how to recommend it to others so i made a powerpoint" post!
come scream with me, it's fun in here, i promise. don't you want to watch a legitimately good crime show with real heart to it. don't you want to get hopelessly invested in a homoerotic duo. the door is wide open!
Oh how I love this phrase "love is a shared meal". After all "food as a metaphor for love" is one of the popular tags on AO3 in this fandom. Go treat your loved ones to dinner and watch Beyond Evil

everyday my mind goes to the friendship Dong Sik, Jeong Je, and Ji Hwa had..and just how terribly it crumbled when the truth came out…
20+ years of friendship and it makes me think if Dong Sik would ever come to terms with Jeong Je, getting him proper help and taking care of him properly without sending him away…rarely acknowledging Jeong Je’s apologies while he helps him move out and into a new home, a new opportunity to live free
or if Ji Hwa stays up late at night, crying herself to sleep whenever she remembers the simpler times when she and Dong Sik defended Jeong Je from those bullies, and if she would now be able to fend off the bullies that are her doubts and insecurities when she sees Jeong Je three years later…embracing her best friend
Would Jeong Je try to divert his drawing skills to other animals?..those that remind him of his actual family, who he imagines still sit around in a circle..warm food and drinks in hands..He really wants to stop running away, and when Jae-Yi places a plate in front of him, with Ji Hoon giggling and patting him in the back…Ji Hwa’s smile that sparks hope..and Dong Sik’s hearty laugh…a rare Ju Won sitting beside him with a small smile as well..He finds himself wanting to be part of this in every lifetime
