“fuck… and you’re attractive, too. chyort.” aleks groaned, covering his face with a towel twenty-five percent out of the heat from the sun staring straight at him and seventy-five percent out of feeling utterly embarrassed and using the russian word as more of a curse to the universe if anything. “it’s in water now, isn’t it?” he asked, not even wanting to look, figuring he’d be even more embarrassed to see it still tumbling about the sand. he took the towel from his head anyway in order to rant, as aleks does. “let me tell you: i spent twenty dollars on that umbrella because the man told me it was wind resistant. and look what happened.” he gestured to the bouncing umbrella which was now far and headed towards the other end of the beach. “i didn’t do anything wrong, i don’t deserve karma.” he complained, shaking his head in disbelief as he lifted a hand to shade his face as he met the other’s eyes.

jude chuckled at that, “i’m flattered.” he grinned, the compliment going to his head completely. he found the boy cute in a lost puppy kind of way; the whole situation hilarious. “that’ll teach you not to listen to those guys, they’ll tell you it’s crafted by god himself if it means they’ll get your money.” he shook his head with a laugh. “but hey, i’m feeling generous, y’want my hat?” he took the snapback from his head and offered it forwards, “it’s no umbrella but it’ll keep the sun out of your eyes.”

it happened again. that damn low burn on the side of his shoulder where the mark made itself prominent, one that made seth felt his heart come to a halt once again. within seconds it was clear that jude had felt it too, or at least feeling something from their touch, and the hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he touched him again, the mark glowing with intensity. “I’m guessing you feel it too, then?” seth said slowly, careful eyes peering into jude’s as he approached him with uncertainty. his eyebrows furrowed as he came to notice how sickly the guy suddenly looked. “you don’t look so good..”

jude cocked his head as it all began to sink in -- this wasn’t normal. it was exactly what he thought it was. “yeah, i, uh -- don’t really know what to say.” he replied mutely, offering the other man a weak attempt of a smile. this was his biggest worry in life, and it was finally happening. “i’m just...” he trailed off, trying to find the word, “shocked. i wasn’t... expecting that. ever really.” he knew it sounded stupid, but he really hadn’t ever expected to find his soulmate. part of him just felt like that could never happen to him, like he didn’t deserve it. he was stunned to say the least.

he lifted his hand to his head once again as he chuckled weakly, not knowing where to place his suddenly very conscious hands as he searched for an answer. the whole soulmate possibility had definitely thrown the guy off, and all seth could think about was whether jude had felt it too. the blonde lifted an eyebrow once he realized the other wasn’t feeling well, to which he swiftly turned to the side to pour him a glass of water. he turned back to jude with the full glass, holding it out in front of him and making sure to linger a bit until his skin touched his again. to make sure what he had felt wasn’t a fluke. “are you okay?” he asked, genuinely concerned.

jude smiled softly, thanking the other as he moved to grab the glass. “yeah, i just--” his sentence halted as the tips of his fingers grazed the other’s hand, his skin once again heating up. he blinked for a moment, his eyebrows furrowed, before slowly trailing his fingertips against seth’s skin again. it was only then he realised that it wasn’t his body overheating, it was just one very precise spot in particular. he was speechless, placing the glass on the table with a shaky hand. maybe he was just imaging things; overreacting. “i.. do you..” this time when he reached out it was with intent -- he touched seth again, his fingers clasping the man’s arm now. as he did it was as if his mark caught flame, the burning sensation impossible to ignore. he instantly felt himself drain of color.

and, boom, just like that, the umbrella fell only moments after aleks had set it up and sat down in his beach chair. the boy came to the shore to have a pleasant, relaxing afternoon and to finally indulge in beach culture - something he never did in russia and never got to in miami. unfortunately, mother nature had other plans as the power of the wind became problematic, knocking down his umbrella once again. “oh, poshol na hui.” he scolded at the fallen umbrella and slightly at the winds themselves. as this had just been about the fourth time he attempted to have the umbrella stay up, he was beyond frustrated and resorted to slouching in his chair, a sign of giving up. 

the boy huffed as he noticed the umbrella tumbling around the shore, succumbing to the fiercer-than-expected winds. just as he was about to chastise the deserted umbrella, it appeared that a stranger approached him. feeling the presence of the other person, he let out a sigh. “how much did you see?” he asked, hands massaging his temples.

“oh, the entire thing -- thoroughly entertaining.” jude smirked. he’d been lazing around the beach just thinking for a few hours now, his mind nowhere in particular. his attention had been caught by the boy wrestling with the umbrella, and he’d actually approached to offer him some kind of help. “you looked like you could use a hand; though i think your umbrella's beyond help by now.” he nodded towards the objected as it hurled down the beach, a slight smirk on his lips.

“it’s nice to meet you, jude-” he began as he took the other’s hand, feeling a slight burning sensation on his shoulder where his mark was as soon as their skin touched. confused, his eyes searched frantically in the other’s deep orbs of umber as he held his gaze, glad that jude had held on for the few extra seconds that seth relished in as he tried to figure out who exactly this person was. was this his.. soulmate? he never really knew how to quite feel about the whole concept, as it both terrified and fascinated him and had absolutely no idea what to do with it. though, seth couldn’t help the aura of enigma that encapsulated both jude and the feeling that he wanted to delve into more. “likewise.” seth trailed off, silently wondering if the other had felt the same he had. he stared in an almost hypnotized trance before shaking himself out of it. “sorry, I don’t mean to stare.” he said with a low laughter as he scratched his head sheepishly, trying to play it off.

“am i that dazzling?” jude smirked playfully. it was then he began to notice the slight tingling sensation; was it just the drink or was something wrong. he frowned, his emotions always blatantly obvious when he was drunk. he lifted a hand to absent-mindedly rub his shoulder, the sensation was coming from his soulmate mark but his drunken mind wasn’t putting the two together. he could feel a sense of unease in the pity of his stomach, “i feel kinda weird suddenly. maybe i need some water?”

a low chuckle escaped his lips as the man continued, unable to pull away from his gaze. he usually tried to stay away from guys like him, especially from someone who was so clearly drunk, but for some odd reason, seth found his charisma oddly captivating. “a dedicated man, I see.” he nodded along in amusement, looking at him with a curious smile. not wanting to cause a potential scene in the bar in terms of what the other would do to ‘impress’ him, he took the initiative of winding things back a few notches to avoid any mishaps. “how about we start out small.” he said as he shook his head in laughter, taking just a half step closer to him. “i’m seth.” 

“oh, you have no idea.” he grinned, confidence oozing from his words. as the man introduced himself, he offered out a hand, “well, it’s nice to meet you, seth.” he scanned the man over again, the distraction leaving his hand lingering over seth’s for a little longer than necessary, “i’m jude.” he relaxed back, pushing his hair back from his face, “so-- i can’t say i’ve seen you around before, i’m sure i’d remember.”

“touché.” jude laughed lightly. “me? tasteless? now that is too far...” he gave him a pointed look, his eyes glistening with humor, “but if that’s the life you want to lead -- so be it.” jude grinned when monty said he had no plans; his only talent was his impeccable skill for derailing a casual nights drink into something everybody involved would regret the next morning. “you know, i wanna dance.” he pondered, the drinks he’d consumed so far already going to his head.
