neon lights illuminate the dim surroundings ; the faint beat of some disco song she probably heard in saturday night fever pulsing in the background. it’s an unlikely escapade, but something to occupy her evening and fidgety fingers. “so, what do you say?” she spins on her heels, the slight pump and rock of her hips adjusting to the muffled rhythm standing outside of roller jam — yet, expression still straight. “am i gonna get a laugh outta watching you bust your ass at skating?”
“Wait, wait, wait, you expect me to actually skate?” Jamie eyes widened. “I did not sign up for this. I don’t skate. I’m here for the food and to watch other people bust their ass.”

“I am. I think I officially crossed the line of young and old. You were able to witness it so treasure that moment forever, alright?” Tommy jokingly asked him. “Give me a month. No- two weeks and I’ll be kicking your ass again.”
“Oh, I will. It’s one for the books.” Jamie laughed, lightly hitting Tommy in the arm. “I’ll hold you to that. Now, what the hell are we doing working out on the beach? What’s the plan?”
vincegagliardi:
“Yeah, I’m sure. You’re no trouble at all…as you can tell, we aren’t very busy here. Sitter’s already with the kids, I’ll just ask i they can stay a little longer.” Reaching fr his phone, Vince sends off a quick text, glancing back up at Jamie after he gets a response. “Let’s go.” Stepping out from behind the counter, he gives the brunette’s arm a gentle squeeze, letting his hand fall away after a moment. “Lead the way.”
Jamie looked around and Vince was right, they were in fact, not very busy. He watched Vince send off his text and get a lightning response back. Jamie raised his eyebrows. “That was fast. Gotta have the best baby sitter ever.” Suddenly, Vince hand was on Jamie’s arm, not for long, but long enough to set Jamie off into a blubbering, babbling mess. “Uh, um, okay. I was, uh, thinking the Balcony, but um, we don’t have to go there if you don’t, uh, want to.” Jamie babbled as he held the door for Vince. “We can go anywhere for drinks. Um, anywhere you want really, I just uh wanted to make it up to you. God I should probably stop talking and just walk.”
vincegagliardi:
“Yeah, you too.” Giving Jamie a small smile, Vince nods, resting his elbows up on the counter as he faces the brunette, folding his hands together. “You need anything? I can help you out.” He offers, pausing when Jamie starts to ramble. “You were just in the neighborhood?” He offers, giving the brunette a smile. The reason he supplies is definitely a lie, Vince can tell, but he doesn’t press it, clearing his throat softly. “No worries. Family comes first, no need to apologize.” The offer catches him by surprise though, gaze moving to check the time on his watch to see just how much time he had left on his shift. “I can leave now, actually. Lemme just text my sitter and I can be good to go?”
“Yeah just in the neighborhood.” Jamie repeated, rubbing at the back of his neck, his face heating up ever so slightly. Luckily, Vince seemed to have bought Jamie’s lie, or at least, didn’t ask any questions. He didn’t seem to be mad at Jamie either, which, of course, made Jamie light up inside. “Oh, are you sure? I don’t want to rush you. I don’t mind waiting around for a bit until you’re ready? And if you can’t get a sitter than we can just go another time.” Jamie rambled some more, a mix of nervous and excited that Vince agreed so quickly.
tommy---j:
“Oh right. I forgot I sent that-” Tommy laughed. “I should not be able to have my phone till my second cup of coffee. But here you are and thank you for remembering what I forgot,” he joked. “Harsh words, man. I am taking offense to that.”
Jamie shook his head, teasing his friend. “Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, my friend, forgetting things already? I didn’t think you were that old yet.” It was almost too easy sometimes to make fun of Tommy, or maybe it was just Jamie’s natural sarcastic wit. “Take all the offense you want, but I won’t let it go until you can bench more than me again.”

It’s been a couple of weeks since Vince took his car into the auto shop and met Jamie, but who was counting? It took one hell of a person to catch his attention like the mechanic had, and not only because of his green eyes and cheeky smile. There was something about Jamie that ws lying under the surface, something Vince couldn’t quite put his finger on yet. It was somtthing he wanted to know, to figure out, though he wsan’t even sure their paths would ccross again given the way the othe rman had bolted during his reading.
It wasn’t unusual for people to be uncomfortable with what they heard, and over the years the psychic had developed a thick skin. It was never personal, people’s reactions. Sometimes they weren’t ready to hear the truth, and maybe Jamie ws one of those people.
It’s another slow day at Magda’s, his coworkers off doing their own thing while he stays up front. He’s busy rearranging a display of crystals when he hears the door open, a quiet hum leaving his lips. “Be with you in a minute!” The older make calls out, dusting his hands off on his jeans before moving away from the shelf, gaze falling on the brunette on the other side of the counter. “Jamie, hey. Uh, how can I help you?”
Finally gathering his thoughts, Jamie smiled. “Hey, Vince. It’s good to see you.” The man looked as good as ever, and Jamie thought it was completely unfair. Everything about Vince was intriguing, and Jamie just wanted to dive in deep, get lost in everything Vince was. “Uh . . . I was um.” Jamie actually wasn’t entirely sure why he was here. He knew he wanted to see Vince, and that was enough to get his body to walk over here. Now that he was here, he should probably apologize. “Hey man, listen. I’m sorry I just ran out of here like that. It was just . . . ” The truth? Too much to handle? Too emotional? Jamie could rattle off the list in his head for why he ran, but he couldn’t seem to say it out loud. Instead, he just said the first thing that came into his head. “My brother needed help with something at home. And he just got back from Afghanistan, so I just bolted. I went into protective big brother mode.” It wasn’t entirely false. His brother had just gotten back, but that’s not the reason he left Vince’s reading. “Anyway, I’m sorry. It wasn’t right, but um. I’m here to make it up to you. If you’re interested. How about we go get a drink or two after your shift?”

Sara: I've been back home for a little while now I still haven't done too much.
Sara: Okay wow, that makes me sound so bored. I guess I am kind of boring now, not where this text is going.
Sara: I could really use a night out, is what I'm saying. Dinner, drinks, a night away from mommy duty. Because my parents said to go have fun, which is weird right?
Sara: Anyways are you in? Also what's fun in this town still?
Jamie: Sara, first off you're not boring.
Jamie: At least the Sara I remember isn't boring
Jamie: Second, when do I ever say no to food and drinks?
Jamie: As for fun, you are asking the wrong guy
“Hey,” Tommy nodded at the other person. “Didn’t think I’d be running into you here,” he joked as he ran a tool over his forehead to wipe away the ocean water. The best part of living in Seagrove was the beach and in turn the warm weather. “My eyes are up here,” he teased as he tried to fight the smirk.
“You definitely texted me to meet you here. Said you had some new beach workout you wanted to try. So, here I am.” Jamie replied letting his eyes wander over his friends perfectly chiseled chest, but once he was caught, he tried to brush it off. “Yeah, yeah, just trying to make sure you haven’t gained any weight. You got soft on me during our last workout.”
“ wicked story, man, ” chad begins, completely unprompted. “ my buddies, rayray, diego, and funky nick and me are all chillin’ in the frat, smoking some pops, and trying to think of something to do. so, funky nick is all ” let’s do a messy tesco ! “ and funky nick - that crazy bastard that - is always hatching these dope plans and coming up with awesome names for them, so we’re like ” yeah man, let’s go “ so we start searching the frat for the tools we goin’ need. so, we grab the toothpaste, three pillow cases, a corn on the cob, fake eyelashes diego’s side piece left behind, and the neighbours cat. now - ” chad stops his story abruptly, turning to the victim person he’s begun talking to. “ oh, shit, my bad. i didn’t even ask if you wanted to hear this story. i mean, it’s a good story, but did you want to hear the rest ? ”
Jamie had been minding his own business, telling his friend on old college story about some chicks, when this other guy decided he could butt in. The brunette started rattling off a story that made absolutely no sense. “What the fuck are you talking about?”

TJ: Me and my sister got matching twin tattoos, on Saturday. We've been talking about this since we were 18. So, we finally did it.
TJ: My wrist is swollen as fuck, it's really irritated and itchy. Also, it's either got a rash or small blisters. I can't tell.
TJ: I've been doing proper aftercare. Cause I'm not fucking with this shit.
TJ: Do I wait to see a dermatologist tomorrow morning or do I go to the ER?
Jamie: dude, that sounds like you had a really shitty artist
Jamie: send me a picture so i can see how jacked up it is
Jamie: i wouldn't go to the ER. i got a friend that can tell us more
It had been two weeks since Jamie’s reading at Magda’s, which meant that it had been two weeks since the last time he saw Vince. Two weeks since he had seen that crooked smile. Two weeks since he had heard his laugh. Two weeks of Jamie hesitating every time he reached for the phone. His heart ached from the lack of contact, but Jamie couldn’t bear to call Vince. Everything had been fine, great actually until that reading. Jamie wasn’t sure what he was expecting considering it was his first reading, ever, but he definitely wasn’t expecting what he got.
{ ‘Hmm. I’m having a hard time reading you. There’s a lot of complex emotions. You’ve definitely got a big heart, a lot of love for your family, but also...pain, and you seem to be masking it with something.’ It was the first time in a long time someone had seen right through Jamie. He felt completely exposed, so vulnerable in that one moment, that he pulled away from Vince abruptly. “Uh, yeah. That doesn’t seem right. You know maybe this isn’t really my thing? I think, I think I’m gonna go.” Jamie left then, not looking back, and walked back to his car at the auto shop. }
Jamie knows he reacted harshly, and that Vince didn’t deserve it, but Jamie hates feeling that way. It reminded him of the way he felt around his dad, when his dad was still around. He also didn’t like being reminded of all the shit he’s been through in his life. However, two weeks was too much. Jamie needed to man up and stop hiding, so he left his apartment, and walked to Magda’s. Driving would’ve been easier, but it would’ve been too easy, so in choosing to walk, Jamie could plan out what he was going to say, but when he walked in the doors and saw Vince, his mind when completely blank. He had absolutely no idea what to say. So, he just stood there, his heart picked up the pace a little, and Jamie thought to himself, Two weeks has definitely been too long. @vincegagliardi
