Could I have a rune reading? I'm having some conflict w/my gender and sexuality. I'm trying to keep it at bay b/c I'm engaged to a cis hetero man. Could this lead to problems down the road or will things work out no matter what happens?
Anon, I'm very sorry. Every now and then, I get an ask that I cannot, in good conscience, leave up to the runes. This is one of those times.
First things first, your safety is paramount. If you ever feel threatened by your fiancee, take what steps you need to be safe. I hope that you will never need those precautions, but lgbt+ violence is depressingly common.
You need to have a conversation with your fiancee about this. "Keeping it at bay" will cause resentment and dissonance within yourself, and in your relationship. Repression doesn't get rid of the thoughts, it just keeps you from addressing them in a safe, healthy manner. Believe me, I've tried. I'm guessing most of the lgbt+ side of tumblr knows, too.
If you are still attracted to your fiancee, then that is fantastic! Good on you for trying to make this work! But he is sort of the wild card here, and his response will most likely boil down to one of three paths:
1. He loves you, regardless of how you present. He wants to support you and stand beside you on your journey of self discovery. You'll probably need to help educate him on some things, and patience and communication will be even more important than normal, but you've got yourself a good one. Hold on to him.
2. He still cares about you, but isn't attracted to you if you aren't presenting and identifying as female. Now, contrary to what a lot of people on this site would say, this is perfectly valid of him. It would be very nice if he was open minded, but that's not your call to make. He has every right to be attracted (or unattracted) to anyone. In this case, I would encourage you to foster the friendship between you two, but continuing with marriage is ultimately going to hurt you both.
3. Finally, we have the one that is all too common, and is the reason for my second paragraph. He gets angry at you. Doesn't matter if it's for hiding things from him, or shattering his perfect little world, or whatever bull shit reason he gives. If he gets angry over an important conversation like this, rather than trying to understand (even if he can't), then you are so much better off without him.
It's not an easy thing to go through, anon. I really wish I could be more helpful, but without too many personal details, I have to cast a wider net. If you ate religious, I will pray for you. If you are not, I will keep you in my thoughts. If you feel comfortable doing so, message me and keep me posted. I want you to be safe. The world is a better place because you are in it.

This must be one of the longest running jokes in pop culture because this is still as funny as the first time we all saw monsters inc as kids
3.20, “We Were Here” - Nothing Like You
I was doing okay through the first couple parts of the finale. The opening with Celia, and the stuff about party planning and SAVA, and I was thinking, okay, maybe I can make it through this.
And then this scene happened and it broke me and I don’t think I ever recovered.
This is the first of four scenes in the finale with the major couples on this show, and each one of them is just phenomenal in how perfectly they capture the essence of these relationships and display so beautifully their pasts, presents, and futures.
This scene starts with Bex descending the stairs to the party in her dress, clearly reminiscent of the first party, when Andi did the same.
When the first party took place, Bex was recently returned. She was still living at home, she’d just took a job at the Fringe, and she was just beginning to adjust to being Andi’s mom while still behaving a bit too much like her fun older sister.
And Andi was meeker then – she had lived a pretty sheltered life under Celia’s protective watch – so you can feel that she’s nervous as she comes down the stairs and sort of symbolically enters this new world: a wild party where she’s trying to put herself out there more. Andi asks how she looks and Bex makes the “You look okay… You look amazing!” joke to give her the encouragement she needs.
This time around, the roles are reversed.
Where Andi was wearing a flashy yellow dress, Bex is wearing a wedding dress, which, if not symbolic of settling down per se, is, at the very least, one of the classic symbols of entering a new stage in one’s life.
And she truly is. She’s grown so much since the first party. She has her own home now, she owns a small business, she’s fully embraced being Andi’s mom and she’s now also a wife.
But you can still sense she’s nervous, as Andi was, and not just about how she looks in the dress. She’s entering a new world, too. This one, though, one of maturity.
And this time, Andi makes the “you look decent” joke, which is a cute throwback, but to me the better line is her telling Bex, “If you only knew how beautiful you look.”
I think that sort of nicely calls back a line in the pilot, when Andi is putting herself down after playing frisbee with Jonah for the first time and Bex tells her she can’t see herself. Or, basically, if only you knew how amazing you are. What Bex is telling her at the time is that she needs to know how great she really is, and if Jonah doesn’t see that, someday Andi will meet someone who does see her for how amazing she is.
Like, as Andi points out in this scene, how Bowie sees her.
Andi goes to let Bowie in and he walks in through the same door to Celia’s he used to first walk into their lives once upon a time.
But he, too, has grown. He has a steady job, a place to live. He’s no longer the unreliable, wandering musician. He’s a husband now, and a beloved father, like his father before him, whose tux he now wears.
And Bex and Bowie meet and just look at each other with such a sense of love and amazement and gratitude that this has all worked out as it did.
And through all this, I was still keeping it together. It’s so well done, but I’m like, I’m okay, I’m okay.
And then Andi gets them to do their first dance, and she plays that song, “Never Seen Nothing Like You”. It’s such a sweet, soft song, and the lyrics are so perfect, it’s like it was written just for them.
And I’m remembering the first time the song was played, in Bowie’s video, where he said how important Andi was to him and basically stated his desire to be a part of the family.
And the second time the song was played, following the birthday party the whole family threw for Bowie, and after Andi calls Bowie “dad” for the first time, and basically says without saying “you are a part of this family.”
And now, here it is again, in the finale. And they are the family.
The same song. The same people. The same house. Three different, important points in all their lives and in their journeys.
Bex and Bowie are together now, and Andi is with them, and they are finally the family unit that once seemed so improbable given where they started.
It just so beautifully, wonderfully comes full circle.
And that is what broke me.
oh boy here i am with another analysis no one asked for
this is about the tragedy that was kira + implied homophobia
we all know that from the moment TJ met Cyrus he was struck by him. For TJ, it was like wow, here is this person and wow wow wow this person is AMAZING. and the more they spend time together, the more TJ is just hit over and over by how funny and awesome and kind and cool and loving Cyrus is. and TJ does not keep these feelings to himself. in fact, TJ shows off and talks about Cyrus CONSTANTLY.
TJ has no problem talking about Cyrus to other people, especially all his friends, and he literally shows him off and brags about him as if they’re already dating.
TJ has never felt the need to hide his affection for Cyrus before, ever, because why would he? This is the greatest person in the world, of course I’m gonna talk about him every chance I get! Of course I’m going to do a costume with him bc I want to show the world that we are a pair! It’s our thing! He’s my person, hear all about it!
So when Kira comes along, why would she be any different? Of course he’s gonna excitedly tell this girl about Cyrus, because Cyrus is his favorite FREAKING thing to talk about and he is so excited about their inside joke and to display to people that he and Cyrus have their own special things.
seriously look how SMUG he is about their special inside joke. Unbelievable. Smitten and not afraid to show it !
But then, something new happens.
what is it? a subtle sprinkling of HOMOPHOBIA, BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For maybe the first time, TJ is being called out on how much he talks about Cyrus, on how attached he is to him, on how close they are. And he’s being called out not in a “wow you really like him huh :)” kind of way, but in a “oh wow, he’s a boy and you really like him, yikes, thats weird” kind of way.
So suddenly, for the first time, he’s analyzing everything about his relationship with Cyrus. Before, he never thought about showing him off and talking about him– it was just natural, he never questioned it before! He had never before thought “wow why do I talk about Cyrus so much, why do I touch him so much, why do I want to spend so much time with him, why is he the person I want to do a couples costume with”, he just did those things automatically bc it felt right! It felt natural.
BUT NOW he is forced to think about the implications of all that– more specifically, the negative implications that Kira thinks it’s weird or wrong in some way.
NOW, we know that this doesn’t cause TJ to change his behavior around Cyrus, in private or public. In 3x18, he still acts ridiculously and openly flirtatious, like he always had, because there’s no one he feels judged (ha) by, he doesn’t need to hide anything, no one is making him overthink his actions.
BUT, it does change his behavior when he’s around Kira, because she is the one person who does make him overthink, who does make him feel like he needs to downplay their relationship. Which leads me to this interaction which was like a brief second but REALLY stood out to me:
if anyone else had asked him that question, he would have answered with “Cyrus! my funny kind smart person! look he got me this shirt! isn’t that nice! did i mention he’s funny” but now, TJ doesn’t do that with Kira. because he subconsciously wants to avoid feeling like his affection for Cyrus is wrong. so if he just hides his affection from her, he doesn’t have to overthink it. He doesn’t have to deal with what Kira is telling him: “you have a crush on Cyrus” and moreover “you should feel bad about it.”
which is why when she makes him go on the swings, he feels like he has to, because not swinging would be admitting to kira that cyrus is so important to him that swinging with another person would be an act of betrayal. and the last time he rejected something because of cyrus (double dribble costume idea) he got that blast of homophobia. so, just like the double dribble costume, he gives in and swings with her to avoid this homophobia, to avoid feeling wrong and bad.
anyways this whole thing sucked and im really glad he finally called her out bc he deserves to brag about cyrus, his now BOYFRIEND, to anyone and everyone without feeling like he needs to hold back. send tweet.
Okay this moment stood out a lot for me because look at his face– I honestly think this is the moment TJ decided he was going to tell Cyrus how he felt.
Cyrus has been patient with TJ from day 1. He has never forced him to do anything he wasn’t comfortable with. Cyrus encouraged and helped TJ to make the right decisions ON HIS OWN. And even when it was clear Cyrus was upset about Kira, he never gave an ultimatum. He simply expressed that he was feeling uncomfortable around her, leaving TJ to make his own choice on how to deal with that information. Cyrus never made him pick– Cyrus never made him do anything.
And this whole thing about “picking” is crazy for TJ! Because he didn’t see Cyrus and Kira as foils to each other! He never thought he’d have to pick one or the other because Kira was his ~new basketball pal~ whereas Cyrus was his person, whatever that might mean.
But “picking” is often very romantically coded. So while TJ never saw Kira that way, in this scene she basically went “date me or date Cyrus” which was a more than friends thing and even oblivious TJ can pick up on that. Suddenly, Cyrus is being “offered” as a romantic option. Suddenly TJ cannot avoid that any longer.
And Kira says “I guess that answers my question” and peaces out, but really it was TJ who had a big question answered. The question wasn’t “Kira or Cyrus,” but “Am I ready to tell Cyrus how I feel.” Because Cyrus, who knows himself to be gay and crushing on TJ, never pushed TJ to acknowledge it. Cyrus flirted and dropped hints left and right, but he never forced TJ to make an explicit move before he was ready. Cyrus was patient, the way he always was, and because of that TJ could take the time he needed to come to this monumental realization on his OWN TERMS.
Which is why this makes the next two TJ scenes so powerful, and so different from his scene with Kira. We have TJ making all his own choices, and Cyrus supporting him. TJ chooses to start to play an LGBTQ anthem. Cyrus, supporting him, then starts to sing along with it. TJ initiates the handhold on the bench. Cyrus, who has waited so long for this, holds his hand back.
Cyrus never made him pick. Cyrus never pushed him or forced him to change. Cyrus believed in him and supported him and gave him the time he needed to come to terms with his feelings. TJ didn’t pick Cyrus over Kira. TJ and Cyrus chose each other, a year ago on the swingset. Kira was never even an option in the first place.
LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK! 👏

Wow.... Luke confirming that he and Josh were putting gay subtext into their acting from the very beginning of TJ and Cyrus’ interactions....
I’d been wondering about this for almost a YEAR and finally. CONFIRMATION. Luke WAS purposively making TJ make heart eyes at Cyrus ALL ALONG!!
New! Complete interview with Luke about the Bench Scene, Born This Way, and TJ being gay from the beginning.
Things that Luke confirmed in this interview which makes them officially canon.
1. TJ is canon gay not bi or pan. Meaning he never had feelings towards Buffy or Kira. He only likes boys and he only has feelings for Cyrus.
2. He pretty much confirmed he knows about Hulu and said he would come back if Hulu picks it up.
3. (Even though we already knew this based on tweets and the bench scene some people still deny it and now that he has said it on tv you can't deny it.) He confirmed the whole cast thinks the bench scene was amazing and didn't need words because you know what they are saying without words. He also confirmed he is honored to play a gay character and to be in the first official gay couple. Now the next and final thing he confimed (which again we already knew but some people deny it still and now they can't cause he said it ok tv) that Tyrus is officially endgame and a couple. He also mentioned how Terri always knew TJ was gonna be gay and that he and Cyrus would be in love and become a couple. I bet you if Hulu picks it up, Terri will have them do a Tyrus kiss.
(Also he didn't say this but it's my opinion. Luke Mullen is so perfect and so handsome and he's the kindest person and that's why I love him and he is my celebrity crush.) ❤💛💚💙💜💖💞
