Junior fight results 26/4/15
Steve Logan and Damien Trainor put on a great event today at the K-star Legacy gym. The show had 13 action packed matches with fighters from the Midlands and Newcastle.
1)Ellie Pardy from Thaitans beat Ellie Garfield from Foundry Gym by a points decision.
2)Nathan Delaney from K-star Perry Barr won a points decision against Choa Phraya’s George.
3)Issac Edlin won on points against Rhys Evans from K-star Perry Barr. It was their first time fighting and made a very exciting match. Rhys scored an 8 count in the second round but Issac managed to pull the last two rounds to get the decision.
4)Arvin Gill from K-star Legacy took on Rayhaan Afrif from Thaitans and gave away over a foot in height. Arvin put in an extremely good effort but the height advantage was a big factor and Rayhaan took a points win.
5)Bailey Holder from Thaitans beat Gene Smith from K-star Perry Barr on points. A very good match with some nice clinch work.
6)Bilal Ali from K-star Sheldon took a short notice fight against Thaitans fighter Ethan Walkes. Bilal started strong and took the first few rounds but faded in the later half and so Ethan got the nod.
7)K-star Legacy’s Josh Hogan was stopped in the 3rd round with a knee injury to the hands of Dylan Price from Palangsuriya.
8)Jack Busby from K-star Perry Barr entered the ring for his tenth fight and was up against Lincoln Holoder from Thaitans who had 23 fights to his name. The fight was neck and neck going into the 5th and Jack really pushed himself to win the last round to get himself a win over a very talented fighter.
9)Skye Tonkinson of the Foundry gym drew with Nicile Adams from Thaitans.
10)Alfie Ross from Chaoa Phraya gave away weight against Aaron Rai from K-star Perry Barr. The fight was close all the way and Alfie just edged it.
11)Bobbi Perkins from The Fight Faktory fought against Eve Perkins from K-star Legacy. The fight was going well but during the 4th the referee stopped the fight due to some concerns and awarded the fight to Bobbi Perkins.
12)Ryan Moore from K-star Perry Barr put in a fantastic performance against this year’s Sandee National Champion Keiron Morris from The Fight Faktory. The first half of the fight was fought mainly in the clinch with Ryan landing solid knees to the back of his opponent on many occasions. The last two rounds Ryan used a lot of movement making his opponent miss and then land a counter attack. A comfortable points win for Ryan.
13)The last fight of the day had Emily Moore out the Perry Barr K-star Academy up against Lily Burn from The Fight Faktory. Lily came out boxing and Emily used her kicks well to counter. From the second round Emily sensed she was the stronger in the clinch and pressed forward to use her knees and well timed throws. Emily had a smile on her face during the whole fight and a bigger smile when she was awarded the win.
Demolition Derby!
Saturday 18th April K-star sent five fighters of to Derby to take on opponents from around the country. There were a few last minute changes with line up and opposition.
First up was Jack Busby (5/3/1) from K-star Perry Barr. Jack’s opponent was local Derby fighter Jacob Mordecai (3/10/1) from the Studio 2000 gym. Both lads weighed in under the 41kg limit. Jack took the win on points by sticking to a strict game plan of clinching and knees outside of the clinch. A great start to the night.
Next up was K-star’s Luke Davis taking on Studio 2000′s Adam Townsend another popular local boy. Adam is an undefeated up and coming fighter looking and Luke was willing to take the challenge against him. The first round was going very well with the two throwing and trading strong attacks and sending the crowd into a frenzy. The second round started the same but Luke was caught with a knee to the face followed by a flurry of punches. The referee stepped in to halt the match as Luke couldn't see clearly. Adam Townsend now moves to 6/0/0 and remains undefeated.
A mismatch on paper but not in reality was 18 year old Kavan Judge from K-star going head to head with Wicker Camp’s 18 year old James Pierce. James had won the UK Sandee Junior Championships this year and was former junior British champion. Kavan going into the fight was 1/1/0. This was a very competitive fight from the start. Kav did exceptionally well taking the 2n, 3rd and 4th which we felt should have given him the decision. After the final bell the judges decided on a draw. A great experience for Kavan who move to 1/1/1.
Amuz Sandhu from the K-star City Center gym took a short notice fight against Chok Dee’s Callum Greenwood. The fight began at a rapid pace with quite a lot of clinch work and as the round went on Amuz was gaining the edge. As the rounds went on Amuz was gaining more confidence and started landing very clean shots. Callum received an 8 count in the third and then going into the fourth round the referee decided it was enough and declared Amuz the winner by TKO.
The Main event of the night was the 82kg big boys. K-star Perry Barr fighter Steve Thompson with two weeks notice faced off against Connor Bolton from Chok Dee Leeds. Steve started strong using his hand speed and the occasional kick taking the first round with ease. In the second Steve really opened up and sank in some heavy body shots dropping his man to end the bout. A great victory for Steve.
Well done to all the lads.
Jacob mordecai vs Jack busby Adam Townsend vs Luke Davies Connor Bolton vs Steve Thompson Liam Mccaughy vs Kavan Judge Jack, Luke, Steve and Kavan will be representing K-star today in Derby at the Pride Park stadium. All have hard fights lined up and are ready to go at it. Good luck lads.
Mark Timms made it into the semi finals of the King in the Ring 86kg tournament in New Zealand last weekend (11th April). Mark won the first fight on points against the tough Pati Afoa but had to fight an extra round as the judges made an error on the score cards. Then Mark advanced to the semis but lost to Israel Adesanya by stoppage in the 3rd round. Mark said that he was too tired after fighting the extra round and then having only 15 minutes rest before the next fight. Israel is one of top fighters about in his division so for Mark to be mixing it with these guys shows how much he has improved.
(Mark pictured with Israel who went on to win the tournament. Mark is also eating a flapjack)
Fintan gets another win.
Sam Kelly after his win at the Tower Ballroom.
Adrian and corner team with the new British title with his 1st round win over Dasi Swali.
Ade landing the head kick that put Dasi Swali down during their British title scrap.
Another brilliant show was held at the Tower Ballroom on the 14th March 2015.
First fight to start the night off was K-star’s Kieran Thomas against Jacob Mordeal from Studio 2000. This was a rematch after Jacob won the first time around at the same venue. Kieran was very strong in the first half of the fight taking the early rounds. Jacob worked his way back in in the later rounds pushing Kieran all the way. It was very close going into the last round and both lads gave it their all. Jacob got the win again by a split decision. A very good fight to get the show going.
Next up was Ryan Moore from K-star fighting for the first time at the Tower ballroom. He took on Knowlesy Academy fighter Tobias Dunka. Ryan used some great techniques inopening round taking his opponent to the floor. Tobias was a tricky opponent and started to take the fight to Ryan and gave him a hard time. Ryan’s timing and scoring edged it for him and got a unanimous victory.
Todd Gray from Chaos Hereford gave away a big weight advantage against Josh Coventry from Russell MT. Josh started strong but began to tire as the fight went on and from losing weight during the weigh to allow the fight to go ahead. Todd won on points and was his second victory after stopping a fighter from Reaper gym the week before.
Dave Knight from K-star took on Paul Masangcay from Knowlesy Academy in the fourth fight of the night. Dave was going in the lesser experienced fighter with 3 fights compared to Paul’s 7 fights. The fight was even all the way with a lot of clinch work. The 5th round Dave edged with some good techniques but the judges sided with Masangcay. The crowd really showed their displeasure at this decision.
Logan Paling from K-star was stopped in the forth round against Liam Griffin from Stoke MT. The Fight was going well and both were landing scoring techniques in this even match up. In the forth round Logan was on the roped and lowered his head slightly and knee from Liam landed on the mouth of Logan. Logan couldn’t continue due to damaged teeth.
Lewis Jones from K-star really showed his class against Karol Dadon from 1st Legion. Lewis coming off two 1st round stoppages and had it all to do getting his career back on track. By far this was Lewis’ best performance. His timing, movement and mental strength were spot on and it won him every round by a wide margin. Points win for Lewis and a great personal victory.
Ryan Perkin from Stoke MT had a very good fight against Mathieu James from Siam MT. Ryan used very well timed techniques to outscore his man but it wasn't easy for him. Mathieu had very good boxing skills and used them to good effect. Judges decision Ryan Perkin from Stoke MT.
The Outlaw Sam Kelly took on Kamil Dadon from 1st Legion and brother of previous fighter earlier on in the night Karol. Sam known for going straight to work from the first bell did exactly as predicted and so did Kamil. It was a toe to toe fight with every shot loaded up with as much as possible. The fight went the distance to the surprise of many and The Outlaw Sam Kelly got a win for K-star.
Fintan Thornhill from K-star Perry Barr in his 3rd pro rules fight against an unbeaten fighter Emiliano Ragni. Ragni originally from Italy is know based at the Knowlesy academy in London and was going into the fight with a four fight four win record. Emiliano tried to start fast but Fintan used his timing and reach to full effect keeping him at bay. From the second round Fintan stepped it up and really took it to his Italian adversary and this continued through to the 3rd round. Emiliano asked for the fight to be stopped just before the end of the round. He had sustained a broken cheek bone and couldn't continue. A good win for Fintan, this could put him in the mix for a Midland title next.
Sam Francis from Trojan wasted no time against Thaitans fighter Will Major. From the sound of the bell Sam went for the kill and put and end to the bout in under a minute.
Crowd favourite Simon Whitehead fought hard to get a win against Charlie Spooner from Siam MT. This was Simon’s first fight after breaking his arm last year during a fight that he won. A great achievement for Simon who is a trainee instructor at K-star.
K-star Sheldon fighter Josh Page lost on points to Liam Brough from Legions Muay Thai gym. It was a very competitive fight all the way. Josh’s boxing gave Liam a lot of problems but he used his kicks and clinching to get himself a points win. Two lads with very good futures.
Ryan Costello from K-star City suffered his first defeat to the hands of Adi Woods. Ryan has been doing very well racking up seven straight wins with four of them being pro rules. Adi Woods came in with a 12,1,0 record and gave Ryan a really tough fight and valuable experience. A really good fight for the crowd.
The main event of the night saw Adrian Maguire fromK-star Thai Boxing Academy win the IKF British Thai Boxing title in style with a dramatic 1st round knockout of local rival from Diamond Academy Dasi Swali. The fight was held By now their were around 700 people in attendance.
The two Birmingham fighters were supposed to have met a year earlier but was called off when Swali had encountered an injury. This added more tension and anticipation to the fight this time round and drew much more attention for the domestic clash.
The atmosphere was electric as both fighters entered the ring. Swali ran out from the first bell throwing strong attacks. Maguire seemed to relish being on the back foot early on in the round, choosing to use his footwork & movement, to evade the aggressive onslaught. Once settled, a perfectly timed head kick from Maguire dropped Swali forcing him to take a count.
From this point, Maguire bossed the encounter, landing solid, hurtful blows and displaying an aptitude for controlled, aggressive pressure as he overwhelmed his previously confident opponent. A barrage of over 20 punches saw an end to the fight with Dasi Swali too hurt to continue.
A fantastic night with an amazing atmosphere.
Epps cut!
Nathan Epps took on Eli Madigan in Australia on the 28th Feb. Nathan was cut from an elbow in the 1st but made it to the 3rd round until it was stopped by the doctors. Nathan was having some real success hurting his opponent with great boxing until it ended. Nathan will be stitched up and back in action soon.
Junior championships
K-star had 3 fighters at the junior championships on 21st feb. Unfortunately all 3 lost. James Fox from city gym was stopped in the 1st and Brandon Smith retired during the 4th round. Jack Busy with only 7 fights to his name went the distance and lost a close points decision to Lewis Moss. Lewis has had over 20 fights so this was good to see Jack holding his own at that level.
