Trend forecasting/Patchwork Moodboard
Finished patchwork bag
Im very happy with my finished patchwork bag, its already been on a few days out and I probably wont leave the house without it for a while, Finally a bag that fits my purse!
Sewing my patchwork pieces
cutting out my patchwork pieces
Since patchwork is all about sustainability I decided to use an old ripped skirt I have aswell as some left over vinyl fabric from a past project. I cut the fabric into 4x4 inch squares. so that I could be 3x3 inch squares with 1/2 inch on each side for the seem.
Draping on the mannequin
Draping patchwork designs on the mannequin
I’ve decided to make a patchwork bag out of left over materials and old clothes that I have. This was my initial design for the bag, though I have decided to use leather instead of denim as leather is said to be trending this summer.
Max Mara Spring/Summer 2022 - Patchwork artist research
I came across Max Mara's spring/summer 2022 collection when researching trend forecasts for this years spring summer trends. and really enjoyed the collection, I was particularly taken with their rigid leather and dark denim looks.
Max Mara Spring 2022 Ready-to-Wear collection, runway looks, beauty, models, and reviews.
From the first IRL shows from Raf, Miuccia and Kim to Marni’s roof-raising extravaganza, the main emotion coming out of Milan this week was
LEATHER IS IN, SPRING/SUMMER 2022
According to Vogue, leather is trending for this years spring/summer collections
Patchwork Knitwear
I Really like the idea of working with patchwork knitwear. I've tried to research it but unfortunately there are very little designers who work with both patchwork and knitwear. My old art studio roommate, Hanna Novak, hand knits and crochets gorgeous patchwork clothes such as this hoodie. Dolce and Gabanna have come out with a few menswear patchwork knit jumpers but they do't overly excite me due to their dull use of colour. Whistles blue jumper that can be seen above as a much nicer use of colour but I find the pattern too boring.
Patchwork Collages
I decided to print out photos of fabric that i'm interested in working with and made patchwork collages out of them in traditional pattern styles.
Patchwork Patterns
I decided to research different types of patchwork patterns, these were my favourites
The History of Patchwork
Patchwork dates back to 5000 years ago in early china and ancient Egypt
Patchwork mind map
Trend forecasting Spring/Summer 2022 patchwork project
Patchwork clothing has become increasingly popular over the last few years due to material waste having a huge effect on the climate crisis. During this week I will be exploring patchwork, in my surroundings, its history awell as modern patchwork in design works and brands. I'll study the predicted upcoming trends for spring/summer 2022 and make myself a design moodboard. Then by then end of the week hopefully ill have some time to do some patchwork of my own!
Final Photoshoot
Final Photoshoot with my beautiful model, Ellen, @k00273106
My garment turned out so different to my original design but I'm delighted with my finished piece, I feel as though my original design was much too boring and it has developed into such a curious wearable piece of art. I used my own camera, lighting in the photography studio and photo editing to capture images of my design
Constructing my garment
When constructing my garment I decided to play around with different ways in which I could put it together
Putting eyelets in my garment
I took to YouTube to learn how to put eyelets into my garment and got going. I unfortunately spilled my eyelets on the floor of the fashion room which somehow swallows everything that falls on it, (similarly to how your washing machine eats your socks) I went to buy a new set but my original size was sold out. I bought a set of much larger eyelets to finish off my garment but the variation of eyelet sizes turned out to look surprisingly good on my garment. I guess everything happens for a reason
I’m using eyelets in the garment so that I can join each of the pieces together with ribbon
