My History This image in my neighborhood represents my history best because I have lived here my entire life. I have never moved but I have temporarily lived at a family member’s place for a while but I’ve always returned here. Looking back at my history, my street is where I have met crazy people and have met nice people. This place has practically everything I need, literally. The metro is 1 minute away, mini markets are across the street, so is the bank, the park is behind my building, two hospitals a few blocks or bus stops up the road; what else could I ask for? I’ve always been able to get my necessities thanks to my mom and uncle, but also because we don’t always have to travel so far, even though travelling has never been a problem. But growing up here hasn’t always been as good as it sounds. Back when I was younger, my mom never wanted me to go out on my own because there used to be a lot of thugs that lived in the area, mainly affiliates of the Blood’s. The area is what we like to call “Uptown” or “UPT”, but now you’ll here “block 160” which is the new thing, but let’s focus on the past. Because of this, I barely had any freedom to explore the neighborhood and meet other kids. I later on had to find out in elementary and highschool that there were people I could have hung out with for the longest time. Anyway, this area used to be very dangerous, still is but not as much as further down Victoria, bit that’s another story. I’ll never forget the fights and drama with the police that have happened around here, but no matter what, I always knew that things would calm down and be alright. The basketball court is where o first learned how to play basketball and also where I first met pot smokers and dealers; it was the first place I was exposed to so many things that a child should not experience, but I enjoyed it, because at that moment I had realized that there is much more to the world than just being cooped up at home playing video games and watching TV and getting more chubby than I already was. I know it’s a bad example of my first experience of part of what the real world is like, but it opened my eyes to see who is trustworthy and who is crazy, who wants to be your friend or who wants to use you. Basically, it’s the first place where I began to learn what being street smart is. Uptown has cooled down a lot since pretty much most of the gang bangers have disappeared over the past 5-6 years, but no matter what, I have never once wanted to move away and I still don’t because of the experiences I’ve had and the memories I have.
My Story, My Feelings, My Life… The first picture, on the top left, are the LeBron 4's. The story behind the picture starts with me in secondary 2, when it was my first time playing for my highschool basketball team and at the same time my cousin who just graduated, who also has a reputation for being one of the greatest basketball players in our school's history, happened to be my coach too. For the longest while I was playing basketball in my regular good street clothes, messing them up, but one day my cousin gave me his Lbj 4's to keep. I felt very honored because I looked up to him, he was my role model because he was liked by everyone, all the girls went crazy for him, he was an all-star basketball player; he was someone I admired and wanted to be. A few weeks into the season during practice, we were being timed to run suicides and I ran as harsd as I could to beat everyone else, but I ended up breaking the sole of my shoe instead. I was devestated but my cousin came up to me and told me that everything would be ok, the shoe's don't make the player, the player makes the shoe's. The second picture looks like a scene out of a movie and it makes me think that life is like a movie itself. I may not be the only person but I feel like I am living in a movie and I am the main character and when I start to think about it that way I sometimes become over confident in myself which is sometimes a good thing considering how timid I was when I was younger. When I look at this picture I feel better about myself and more focused like a close-up with a camera. The third and fourth pictures of me in the studio and of me dunking are coincidentally next to each other, which is what I wanted because I am able to explain how I've had conflicts between remaining an artist and an athlete. I had to struggle with booking time for the studio, making it to practice, finding time to write lyrics while also beimg a student and finishing assignments, volunteering then working at a summer basketball camp for the summer; it was just really difficult finding time to do all of this and remain being both. So far I have leaned more towards remaining an athlete because I can't stay in one place for too long unless my mind is stimulated by something like television or the Internet, plus I haven't had the best patience when it came making beats but last year I was able to produce a beat that I'm satisfied with. Now I play for the Dawson basketball team and this may be my last year playing ball competitively because I want to focus on my studies next year but I will continue playing when I can, I at least have to get a workout done to stay in shape. I don't know if I will go back to being an artist again but I feel like its something I can't get rid of.
Why Getting It Wrong Is a Good Idea summary.
The beginning of this article starts with an explanation about Edgar Degas and his artwork in the late 1870's, but more specifically this one painting that became very controversial. He produced a painting entitled, “Jockeys Before the Race”, which show exactly what the title describes, though, even though the images in the painting are very well done, the especially the detail on the horse's muscles in the foreground, there happens to be a pole positioned in front of the horse’s head! The way how Scott Dedich described it was that the pole was literally going through the horse’s head, which isn’t the case. I will admit that when I saw the painting it does make you feel a little uncomfortable and disturbed, but this is part of the message that Dedich is trying to lay out for his audience. Degas' painting displays the beauty in doing something that is wrong by producing a piece that has something as simple as a pole change the way the audience views and feels about the piece. Because if this, other local artists who have tried so hard to perfect other art techniques have decided to implement the idea of excluding themselves from the norm by doing something that is “wrong”, which is interesting because this is shown as a new evolutionary way for art. Basically, this new creative way if producing art is what Dedich calls, “Wrong Theory”. He developed the theory from working on a cover page for WIRED magazine featuring John Hodgeman and the editor for the magazine said that the monochromatic theme for the photograph and complained that the cover was too drab. So Dedich decided to mess up his perfect photo by adding a neon orange colored rectangle that made, to Dedich, completely ruined the photo and later realized it was too late. Once the cover was printed, he later realized that his mistake actually made the cover look good and liked it and continued to produce the little bar on other covers later on.
Critical Play chapter summary
“Critical Play, radical game” summary. This chapter explains the development of board games and the connections that it brought between the people who played them and the complexity of the connection that these games have with life itself. I found that a couple of the games that were described seemed like very familiar to me. For example, a game called the “fox games” is a board game where there is a “fox”, or “aggressor” while other players have to play the geese, sheep, or other prey that the Fox is trying to eat. So far, the game sounds a little like a board game mash-up of the modern children’s game, “What Time is it Mr. Wolf?” with a bunch of other games in the mix. Now the game continues with the Fox trying to catch his or her prey while trying to avoid getting caught in traps that are somehow set around him or her by the geese and sheep. Now, the difference between these fox games and the games that we play today, is that the games played many years ago were made up with unfair, or as they call it, unbalanced rules. Another thing I found interesting in this chapter is how the games that were kept in the archives between the 1840's to the 1920's offered a view of the values, beliefs and aspirations of a nation undergoing a situation that would change it. No surprise there considering that most of the board games created reflect social situations that cause people to interact as if they were in a real life situation, but the situation is a simulation. For example, games created in the early nineteenth century, particularly for kids, were mainly done for kids to have instructional and values. Because of this, board games made home no longer a workplace but a place where gameplay has become educational. With the rising development of Parker Brothers, known for Tiddlywinks (1897), Post Office Game(1897) and War at Sea(1898) offered many other board games a commonplace for them to become popular as well. This chapter is makes the history of board games shows that these games have a larger purpose than just for entertainment. They also educate people by providing information about every day situations and making people do these simulations to prepare people to have knowledge when entering the real world, also that the games of today compared to yesterday are more structured and almost as mind challenging as they used to be. I loved how this chapter shows the complexity behind board games because it makes them that much more interesting.
Part 3
Part 2
Creative Project: Synectic Designs part 1
In this project, we were assigned to create an original drawing and then use the concepts for syncectic designs.
Synectics - the joining of different apparently irrelevant elements
3 main assumptions:
Creative process can be described and taught.
Invention processes in arts and sciences are analogous and are driven by the same “psychic” processes.
The “psychic”process, or in other words the creative process, is the way how our brain can process the way we perceive an object and can reconstruct it by synthesizing and integrating elements on the fly.
In the process of creating our own board game. We had to bring our own board games for inspiration but unfortunately my group had no board games at all... We were supposed to take rules from our games and\or make up our own rules for a game and create a new one with a message or story, kinda like a video game. As you can see, all of our rules are written down individually and the collaboration begins. After that, we begin play testing and let other in the class play our game.

My Open Creative Project
For my open creative project, I will be creating a portfolio of drawings that each have my own meaning to them, but when they are presented I would like to get other people's interpretations. I am aiming between 10-15 pieces and I will be using some of the creative processes that was done in previous classes. I will later decide on which picture had the most inspiration behind it or which piece gives me enough inspiration to write a poem based on the meaning as well as how I feel when look at it. I am doing these things because I've loved to draw since I was much younger but never took it seriously until now since we started the synectic exercises and writing has been my passion since I was 12 years old. Even though I don't perform anymore I still find it relieving and such an awesome experience to jot down ordinary words in an extraordinary way that sounds unique. Of course I will be practicing along the way to make sure that when I do get to the final process of writing how I feel about one of my piece's, it will be structured perfectly in my opinion and sound better than what I expect from now. I will be documenting my piece's as well and describing where the inspiration came from, so for now this project is more of a "going on a whim" type of thing.
Generating Ideas as a Group
Brainstorming session:
Let everyone’s ideas flow; take someone else idea and expand it or dig deeper into it, capitalize. In a study, both in quality and quantity, soloists who take part in a brainstorming session produced better than those in a group brainstorming session.
Blocking:
Evaluation Apprehension: Being afraid of others judging their ideas.
Personality Face-off: Clashing of personalities with strong beliefs for their own idea. Some people are passive, some overprotective and not accepting others, some are safe and only produce safe ideas that works for them.
Brainwriting: Traditional brainstorming, everyone is still in a group but are thinking and recording any and every idea without any verbal interaction.
Our Brainstorm session: In a group of 4, come up with 3 ideas within every 5 minutes, writing them down and passing the paper to the next person to write their 3 ideas.
