One of my strengths this year has been the fact that I have a few of my own projects that I am planning to work on throughout my University life, which began three years before that. My pair of graphic novels, one named The Melenbakah Scrolls and it's prequel The Mystical Legend of Eagle-Ras. I have spend many hours in the mac rooms teaching myself how to use adobe illustrator to render my hand-drawn storyboards/comic strips. I also found time to go home and film promotional videos for some of my friends back home in Coventry that run businesses, these are all on my Youtube channel Deeboi2000. This was to help them raise awareness of their businesses and to help them drum up even more trade. Having found Alexsa Dyana an exchange student from New York, I found somebody talented who was willing to help me, and willing to get started. I sensed some of my classmates were a little too laid back knowing the dead line was months away but having experienced the production process before I knew it was best to nail an idea and get moving from early. Alexsa and I communicated really well, Alexsa is a keen cinematographer and editor who loves that aspect, I had the vision as a writer/director/producer. I study Drama too, so I was able to use that advantage to source my actors. Day one of shooting was actually better than expected in the sense that me and Alexsa were early, she had turned up with a storyboard to my surprise as she never told me she could draw too. She was very professional. I had the actors and location, and we had a brilliant day shooting once we got started. Alexsa taught me white balance, and lighting, and was very much in charge on set. I told the actors what I wanted and how I wanted them to perform. Later Alexsa introduced me to colour correction software on iMovie. Each shooting day was fairly easy, my cast was professional, I knew what I wanted and once the locations were set it was fairly easy to let them improvise based on my information. Never re-shot anything, we did multiple takes to choose from and each scene was filmed a few hours in a day. Alexsa left the UK in December, I was left with two more episodes to do alone. Catherine Green kindly agreed to help me shoot, she framed some nice shots for the date scene. I filmed the last shooting day alone. Alexsa was gone but she never abandoned me, she had already promised she would edit anything else I send her, so she edited two of the episodes. The date scene was edited in America and sent to me via dropbox. I know we can still depend on each other for future support which is nice, as international links to our ever-expanding network and we are still in contact.
