Random 3AM Idea
Auron, who, for just a moment, believed that Rook had left him the morning after. + Rook, who made sure to leave her phone on the nightstand so he knew she hadn't really left.
Auron and Rook who find each other in every life time, every universe.
Thats it, that's the post.
Moving Out Is Scary
One of the many things they don't tell you to do when you move into your own apartment is to measure the distance between you and the closest convenience store, or at least an Aldi.
To be fair, Marii only had a few weeks to find a place and move out before her mother's given deadline; however, she'd be damned if she was going to be forced to move into a small studio apartment. The only pro that it had was that it was much closer to the tall glass skyscraper that she'd soon be working at rather than all of her other options (not that there were very many to begin with). Her best option was a one-bedroom apartment near the more suburban parts of the city, where the neighborhoods nearby were still pretty blue and yellow houses and not other 5-over-1 buildings painted in that horrid millennial grey that plagued her childhood.
She'd move in with a few clear plastic totes that she would later use for her clothes as a makeshift dresser and as a table for when she ate. She had enough money left in her savings to buy a small twin-sized bed, a frame to go with it, and a few bags of groceries to last her until she got her first paycheck.
She still had her car, making sure beforehand that the apartment she did end up picking had enough parking, so it was only necessary that she drive out and see where everything was. She did this for two reasons: one, to measure the distance and amount of gas she would be using every day to get to and from work, and two, she liked looking around at the prettier buildings that were decorated by the coffee shop owners to be more appealing than their giant corporate chain counterpart.
Living alone didn't seem so bad until she drove back home, entered her new apartment, and looked around. There was nothing. Of course there was barely any furniture, but that's not what her mind was focused on. There was no noise; no children playing in the living room, no parents arguing over bills, and no dogs barking at nothing through the mail slots in the front door. It had only been less than 48 hours since she was finally out, and she already missed home- maybe not her mother, but the rest of the home. She'd set down her purse and just cry into her hands as she knelt on the cold vinyl floors. She missed her old room, her sisters, and even her dad.

That Horrid Office Job
{Another Lore Dump that is barely proofread ^^}
Marii never thought she'd actually get the job. Sure, she was qualified in every way; sure, she had multiple references from her work that would praise her for her efforts and steadfast work ethic, and it was true that she had a decent shot at getting the job, but it wasn't her goal to actually land it.
She only applied because she was told to; her mother was breathing down her neck as she looked at her daughter's computer screen, which showed the image of the company's website that read "Currently Hiring". She submitted the application to her mother's liking, choosing to keep her happy rather than starting another argument over career choices.
Soon enough, she'd get a call back. She had hoped it would be to the many other jobs that were much closer to where she lived, or at least not in an entirely different city; however, she'd prove to not be so lucky.
She complied with her mother's demands requests and went in, having to pay for an Uber each way (which was extremely expensive given the 45-minute drive each way). She smiled and greeted the hiring managers, nodded along when they explained the job description, and answered questions the way that she was taught to.
She was bored to death, and in that boredom, she decided to get creative. She started answering questions the way she wanted to. Sometimes she'd make a small crack at something the HM had said, and sometimes she'd say something sure to make them rethink hiring her. She had hoped her overconfidence would land her on the Do-not-hire list, but to her disappointment and surprise, it didn't.
She had actually gotten the job! Her mother was thrilled and immediately told her she had to move out since she now had a well-paying job.

Marielle and Alexandria {Lore Dump}
{Most of this is unorganized lore that is mostly not proofread at all}
Marielle [Rook] and Alexandria [Sugarboo] have known each other since elementary school, but only became friends after both of them started high school. Marielle began talking to Alexandria in her sophomore year when they shared two classes together (geography and art)
Marielle would have you fooled and believe that she is all cool and calm, but in reality, she was just as energetic as Alexandria, maybe even more. They would soon start hanging out together outside of school, the two of them finding any excuse to be together when they could. They shared many interests such as musical theater, makeup, hair, and the romance books that they would stash at the back of their lockers for whenever they had any downtime during the school day.
Marii would slowly realize her feelings for Alex after a year of knowing each other. She would deny it, under the impression that Alex was interested in a guy in her own grade, and actually interested in men only. She didn't bury the feelings; she just set them aside, opting to focus on becoming a lawyer instead of fantasizing about being in a perfect world where Alex did like her back and that she could grow up and build her career around marine biology instead. She'd nod off in class and dream of jellyfish, sea turtles, and cool sunny days at the beach, just diving into the water to get a peek at all the fish and crabs; often waking up to the school bell ringing and having to rush to her next class because she made the mistake of resting for just 15 minutes.
On calm nights, when the sky was clear and the streets were quiet, she'd drive out to the pier and look out into the horizon. She'd sit on the bench there and write; write about her life, her feelings, her goals, and her fears of the future. She'd express how she feared that Alex would grow away from her once they graduated, how she feared not being able to pursue her dreams and goals, and how she feared that she'd one day be stuck in an office job as some low-rate lawyer who had nothing to show for herself when people asked if she had become a marine biologist like she said she would in high school.
Sometimes she would drive into the deeper parts of the city, looking for just one place that was still open at 2 am in the morning. She'd find a small convenience store and decide to go in just to look around since she had never really gone into the city before. Looking around proved later on to be one of the best decisions she had ever made in her life because she had just found her soon-to-be favorite snack. It felt dramatic to her the first time she ate it (after paying for it, of course); it wasn't some fancy pastry, but instead an asian snack that she remembered hating when she was a child. She'd buy ten more bags of the snack and finally head home, parking her car and sneaking through the window of her attic, where inside she had made a smooth path through the clutter and Christmas trees for a quieter trip down into her room.
She wouldn't get caught that night or the night after or even for another 2 years. {Hope ya'll like reading}

Good news: if you’re currently laying around and not producing anything, you are a credit to your species.
It’s recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.
The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.
EVERYTHING THAT LIVES REQUIRES REST. STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING A ROBOT.
robots require very frequent breaks! welding machines generally have it programmed in that they can’t run so long they melt themselves. ive overseen two different manufacturing robots now and each of them were fragile, finicky idiots that require constant maintenance and repair. they pause in between moves, in between jobs. you’re always keeping an eye on programming errors, on coolant levels, on heat. you’re always pulling bits of scrap out of joints, sweeping up debris, washing off nozzles and untangling hoses. and even then it snaps a chain and takes a whole morning’s vacation.
even robots need downtime.
My phone literally tells me to shut it off every so often to keep everything optimized and your laptop shouldn’t be running 24/7 or it starts to malfunction. Even machines need time to reboot, recover and rest. Everything that uses energy needs those moments of recovery and rest.

Feels like a good time to plug Lingonaut. It's 100% AI and ad free and the courses are developed by volunteers. It's in open-beta, so still a bit buggy, but it has the feel of Duo Lingo without the slop.
I'll also add Mango Languages, which you may have access to through your public library!
