“What if I told you I’ve been in love with you since I was eleven?”

Marcus’ head snapped around, eyes going wide. He felt his heart hammering harder against his chest. She had rendered him momentarily speechless. He had known that she had softened toward him in recent months, but he had never known that she had any kind of feelings toward him prior to that. Especially on the Ark.

"Aren’t you going to say something?” Abby nervously brushed at a piece of imaginary lint on her worn doctor’s coat. She had no idea why she hadn’t taken that information to the grave. She’d carried it for so long, and now it was out there, and she couldn’t take it back.

He stepped forward, pinning her against the work table where she had been taking patient notes only a few moments before. He cupped her cheek, lowering his mouth to hers and stopping only a whisper away from her lips. “And what are your feelings toward me now?” he breathed.

She felt the goosebumps as they rose on her skin at the feel of his breath. She met his eyes before her gaze moved down to his lips. “Well, I hated you for a long time, but now…” She had to swallow the lump that had risen in her throat. “Now I think I love you even more now.”

“You think or you know?”

“I know.”

It was at that moment that their lips met for the first time. Their arms slid around one another, touching in a way they hadn’t ever dared to before now. The kiss was long and slow. As their lips parted, they both smiled before he leaned in and kissed her mouth softly one more time.

“I love you, too,” he breathed as he pulled her into his arms, cradling her against his chest.
