For the four word prompt “Are you fucking insane!?” For kacchako please
Ochako’s foot taps relentlessly against the tiled floor ofthe hospital room, one of the only sounds in the otherwise quiet space. Thesilence is only broken by her impatient and nervous tapping, Kirishima’ssnoring, and the constant reassurance of the heart monitor resting besideBakugou’s bed. Any other day, the constant beeping would be intolerable, loudand shrill and enough to make her tear her hair out, but now it seems to be theonly thing keeping her from crying.
A small part of her wants to hate him for being so recklessand running off the way he did, but the larger part of her is simply glad he’sstill alive, relief seeping into her bones with every obnoxious beep coming fromthe machine. She isn’t sure how Kirishima can sleep through it, but she’slearned not to question it. He can sleep through practically anything at thispoint, likely do to rooming with Bakugou for so long now.
She goes back to tapping her foot, chewing her lower lip asshe winds a lock of hair around her finger, absently noting that she’s due fora haircut soon. The strands are getting long again. Ochako glances at Bakugoufor what must be the thousandth time in the last four hours, but he hasn’tmoved, nothing changed at all. She looks away just as quickly, eyes stinging, and takes a deep breath. She’s impossibly aware of her hands shaking, but shedoesn’t know how to make them stop.
The tapping of her foot grows louder, faster, over takingthe sound of the heart monitor. Her fingers twist together in her lap, nailsdigging into her skin. If she was faster he wouldn’t be here. She could havestopped him, or maybe Kirishima could have, but neither of them ever have beenable to stop Bakugou from doing something reckless, have they? He’s always beensomething of a loose cannon, doing whatever he wanted. He never got better atteamwork despite all of their years at the academy.
If it was her lying on that hospital bed, or even Kirishima, she doubts they’d still be alive after the beating Bakugou took, but he’s toostubborn to die. That’s what she’s been telling herself for hours now. He’sjust too damn stubborn and she isn’t sure whether she admires him for that orwants to kick his ass.
He’s a selfish idiot and she wishes she could hate him forit, but she can’t. That bastard.
“Do you have to be so fucking loud, Uraraka?” Her foot stopstapping, Ochako going still at the familiar voice. “This is a hospital, youknow.”
Her head snaps around, eyes locking with Bakugou’s. Shenearly screams when she sees him awake, looking exhausted but significantlybetter than he did before. Her first instinct is to leap from her chair, poisedto throw her arms around him in a hug, but she pauses when she sees the littlesmirk on his mouth, almost teasing in the way they’re quirked at the edges.
Before she can wrap her arms around him, Ochako suddenlyremembers that she’s supposed to be angry with him for being an idiot andscaring her half to death.
“Are you fuckinginsane?” she screeches at him softly, aware that she is indeed still in ahospital. As much as she’s like to scream at him, she doesn’t feel like beingthrown out. “We were supposed to be working together, you dumb asshole!” Ochakohuffs as she props her hands on her hips, teeth grinding together harshly. Bakugouonly blinks at her, stunned. “I thought you were dead! I thought I lost you,”she adds, softer than before. “What was I supposed to do if you didn’t make it,huh? What was I going to do then, Bakugou?” She doesn’t give him time toanswer, though she doubts he would have. The insensitive jerk. “I can’t believeI’m in love with you, you stupid idiot!” It slips out before she can stop it, butshe doesn’t have the heart to take it back.
Bakugou is quiet for a long time, simply staring, and Ochakois vaguely aware that Kirishima is waking up. She waits for Bakugou to sayanything at all, his eyes wide and his lips parted slightly, a look of absolutewonder in his eyes.
“You just swore,” he blurts, slurring slightly, and shewonders how many meds they have him on for him to be so dazed. Bakugou blinksat her, waiting for a response, and she puffs up her cheeks, utterly annoyed.
“I just told you I love you and that’s all you heard?” Alarge part of her is stung by his dismissal of her feelings, but she knewbefore she fell in love that he’s kind of a dick when he wants to be, and he’sabout as cuddly as a cactus. He’s mean and unfriendly and has no tact, but sheloves him anyway. The bastard.
Bakugou shakes his head slowly, wincing just the slightest, and she softens immediately, reminding herself that he’s clearly in pain andlikely not as lucid as he’s trying to pretend to be. “No,” he tells her, swallowing thickly, looking just the slightest bit embarrassed. “Just the mostsurprising.” He grins, and she thinks it’s supposed to be smug, but it comesout looking more fond than anything she’s ever seen on him.
He doesn’t say it back, but she was never expecting him to.The look in his eyes is enough.
“I hate you,” she tells him, meaning something completelydifferent. Huffing, she steps up to his bedside and leans down to wrap her armsaround him in a near suffocating hug. For a moment he doesn’t move, but then helifts one hand, placing it on the small of her back comfortingly, leaning intoher touch. Only for a second, his lips brush against her cheek, barely a ghost, but she still feels it.
“I know,” he breathes against her ear.
