“A lot of us know you’re trying, and we’re doing our best to be patient with you. Some of us are still trying to understand what you’ve been through, how The Capitol treated you all. Some of us in Thirteen can do a hell of a lot better to be more empathetic. And Coin’s one of those people. You’re right, she needs to be here to make those decisions, instead of keeping us twiddling our thumbs, especially when the situation calls. I know there’s no disrespect meant, but… not a lot of us have the courage to really give our two cents about that. We’re not exactly sure what goes on in President Coin’s head.”

“ I understand, it’s not easy to try to understand something you don’t really have any idea about, you know what I mean, we just don’t have any other way to try to show you guys other than through words you know? I just hope that eventually we’ll be able to all be on the same page, I think that’s important for us to try to accomplish if we want to win this rebellion. Hopefully she’ll realize that sooner rather than later.”

“Yeah I could think of a lot of other ways too, just most of them are probably better not being vocalised.”

“ I get it, I wish the circumstances could have been better as well.”

“I know this goes both ways on all counts. We need to respect each other, trust each other. We know you’ve been through horrible, horrible things with The Capitol. We all want the same thing, ultimately. We want what’s better for Panem, for everyone. There shouldn’t be a whole lot of reason to be butting heads. But it’s happening, and we’re trying to get past it. And we’re definitely doing what we can to respect you guys, but you also need to trust and respect us as well. We do things the way we do them for a reason. Granted, some things can be changed for the better or to help accommodate to you, but that’s not our call to make. It’s for Coin. She’s the head of all this, the President of District Thirteen. And believe me, a good handful of us have been trying to get through to her to make sure your voices are heard.”

“ Gaining respect takes time, and unfortunately time isn’t on our side. As for trust, that takes time as well and that’s not something all of us give so easily, I mean, you have to remember where we all came from, what we’ve all been through, it’s difficult for us to trust people, hell some of us don’t even trust each other because the Capital. We’re definitely trying though as well and as long as some of you know that than hopefully we’re making progress. Coin needs to pay more attention and be around more, especially when it comes to when we send people out there, whether it’s just a supply run or not, she’s the leader, she wanted this rebellion to happen, she can’t just disappear on us when we’re in a critical situation, give the heads permission to make a call in situations like that, you know what I mean? I don’t mean any disrespect but having everyone sit back and wait for one person to make a decision in an emergency situation is kind of ridiculous.”

“I think more and more of us are starting to realize that, yes. That waiting around for the okay isn’t always the most prudent option. Hopefully things will go more smoothly next time. They have to.” Jerica shook her head as if to clear it and continued. “I’m sure you’ll figure something out, Mr. Hendrix. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know.”

“ I hope that’s the case because I know one thing, I can’t keep on going like this and I know some if not all of the others are feeling the same way. No offence to your leader, but when something like that happens, she needs to be available.” Kade said. He ran a hand through his hair and nodded, “ Thanks, I appreciate that, right now it’s just a matter of finding something I’d be good at around here that would actually help the cause.”

“ I’ve always been a fast learner, I’m able to pick things up pretty quick like weapons and what not, I’ve always been a strategic thinker, living in district nine you kind of had to be. After my first games I did a lot of training on my own time, mostly to vent out my frustration and because it kept me busy. I did a lot of reading too. nothing silly really, mostly read things that I could learn from. I like to keep myself busy because if I don’t then I’d probably go crazy.”

“ It’s alright, you can stay if you want to.”

-flips through some files until he finds the one in question- This file says one month. Does that sound about right?

Kade sighed and nodded, “ Yeah that sounds right.”

“Thank you for your apology, although I didn’t come here seeking one. I understand that you were frustrated; I think all of us were. What happened should serve as a lesson to those higher up the chain of command. We don’t always have the time to wait around for President Coin.” Jerica tilted her head in thought. “If you’re having issues with your job placement, you may consider consulting with Kai. He may be able to find you something else that will work better for you.”

Kade nodded, “ That very true, we don’t always have time for one person to make a decision on what to do next, sometimes you just have to follow through for the greater good of everyone, sometimes you have to go against authority and break the rules if it means saving people, and sometimes you have to make sacrifices, but never at the expense of others.” he said. He looked up at her, “ Yeah, I’m working on that, just not sure what other job I’d be good at, I’ve always been good at strategy. I grew up in district nine and my dad taught me a lot about it, mostly when it came to planning crops for different times of year, where to plant to get the best product, to always have a back up plan if something went wrong.” he shrugged, “ Not sure what else I can do around here to be a part of the cause.”

“I know you all have been through so much. I’m so sorry your lives have been hell with the Capitol constantly breathing down your necks, threatening your families and friends… Not many of us here can imagine what that’s like. It was a terrible life and having to endure The Games a second time was completely uncalled for. I know you want to see this rebellion through and I know you want things to change for the better, we all want that here. But I know we can do better to comply with your needs and gain your cooperation, too. You’re more than just pieces on a board to play whenever the going gets tough, a lot of the higher ups need to understand that. We’re trying to help them see it. The other part of the matter is, we need to trust each other here. We’re capable of changing Panem for the better, and we need all your help to do it. But you have to trust us here. We’ve been off to a very rocky start, but if we work together, we can figure it out.”

“ The way I see it, there’s no way we;ll be able to win this thing if we don’t start getting along with each other. I mean how do we expect to win a rebellion like this when we can’t even get along ourselves, there’s no hope for us if we can’t start working together. I know that, trust is just a hard thing for me to give, but I’ve been trying too, it may not seem like it to some people around here but I have been trying, but I didn’t go through two games, and my family dying to just come here and be disrespected and being called untrustworthy, I’ve paid my dues, so have the other victors and their families and I’m sure people here have as well in their own way, we all need to respect that, not belittle it. The point is, we need to find a common ground here before things get worse, because I know, I can’t keep working like this and I know there’s others feeling the same way right now.”

And that’s a good enough reason to get a shower because I don’t want to be associate with this stupid rebellion.
