I, for one, can use frivolous distraction.

I’m brainstorming an urban fantasy story idea. Magic of about the Dr. Strange level is openly known to exist.

What kinds of powers or magical artifacts do y'all especially like to read about? Because I’m working on figuring out the details of my magic system.

5 days till NaNo and I’m still changing my mind about what to write for it. I have a cool idea for a vampire novel, but a couple of days ago I realized that it isn’t developed enough to write yet. There’s too much about the plot that hasn’t materialized in my mind yet. I mean, I found myself thinking about taking the human storyline out of it and putting it in a separate non-paranormal novel. If your thoughts on your vampire novel are “maybe I should take the vampires out of it”, clearly you need to let the idea simmer some more!

So I thought about finishing the fantasy YA I have started, but for NaNo you’re supposed to not start writing till 11/1. It would be cheating.

And I’m also contemplating an m/m romance idea I have, but I’ve only started to outline that so I don’t yet know if it’ll come together.

So I’ll just be over here tearing my hair out. Writing! Dammit.

Hey everyone, @blauwehommel has started translating my fic Deep Freeze into Russian! I’m so excited.

Me: *going to the kitchen for water* I have an idea for a good setting for a novel. Now, what kind of plot should I have....

One of my Muses: Ten bucks says she puts in a prison escape before she pours her glass of water.

Me: *starts to pour water* Ooo, and then the sequel can open with that character breaking out of prison!

Me: *starts m/m romance novel* I know exactly who the two heroes are going to be! Alas, we won't meet Hero #2 until the second chapter.

Chapter One: Here's Hero #1. Here's the setup. OK, 400 words in, let's have a random background character do something for a minute to make the scene more vivid.

Hero #1: Actually, I like this guy. Imma fall in love with him instead of that other guy you have planned.

Me: Wha? But....

Hero #1: Nope. Now go back and put in a description of my one true love. Make sure to make him hot.

Me: ...Okay....

Me: *struggles to write all day* *keeps getting distracted* *paces around the apartment for an hour trying to find a personality for a supporting character* *succeeds after about 10 false starts*

Me: What an awful writing day this has been.

Word count: You wrote nearly 3000 words today.

Me: !!!

I just realized that my WIP is about a princess who has always accepted (as real princesses had to for most of history) that she’ll have to marry whoever will create an advantageous match for her father the king. It doesn’t even occur to her to contest this.

Thus I’ve avoided the “No, Father, please let me marry the dashing commoner instead of the mean ugly old noble!” plot that’s been done 20 kazillion times.

(Of course, eventually she will end up marrying the dashing commoner, but that’s not the center of the story.)

Working on my originalfic. The interaction between not-Odin and not-Loki makes me think of those scenes in movies and novels where an underling is ordered to dig a grave, not realizing that it’s going to be his.

I just wrote that when my heroine’s father and brother returned from war, she wanted to “just run over and pet them.” *headdesk*

FINALLY completed the first draft of chapter 6 of Stolen Princess. A very emotional chapter - it’s where not-Loki finds out she is a not-Jotun - which is why it took me so long. 

Now I’ll leave it for a couple of days before revising it.

I’m traveling so I’m mostly staying logged out of tumblr (if you’ve commented on my posts or anything it’ll be a few days before I look at it) but a couple of things.

One, I’m working on a YA novel that is of course a serial-numbers-filed-off Loki fic. Only Loki is a teenage girl. Which is not that much of a stretch, frankly. Movie Loki is basically a brilliant teenage girl with a large dick. Anyway, if you want to be one of my beta readers, either join the Loki’s Renaissance facebook group or else just message me.

The other is, all day I’ve been thinking about how Jew-coded Loki’s character is and how ominous it is that the movies keep attacking him in specifically antisemitic ways. 

And then it occurred to me that it’s very ironic that a pagan god has reaffirmed my commitment to Judaism. If the same people who hate Loki also hate Jews, and they do, we Jews must be pretty awesome. If people who hate Jews also hate Loki, and they do, that’s just more proof of how awesome he is.
