usually i don’t picture aphmau to have the cool ass markings like most people do, but my new headcanon abt it is that she doesn’t have them when she first shows up in phoenix drop after being reincarnated and everything

instead, it’s only after she absorbs the relic in the irene dimension that she gets them, and that ends up helping contribute to the identity crisis she starts having throughout s2 over her connection to irene and the relic

honestly i feel like even after his death they were always gonna bring aaron back. not just because he was mcd aph’s endgame, but because they were leaning more into the relic stuff at the end of s2 and zianna mentioning that falcon claw was the descendants of shad just made that an obvious conclusion to make if you ask me

like the whole story time with hyria they did was obviously foreshadowing that in s3 they were gonna dive into the shadow lord stuff that they’d been building up for AWHILE, and zianna mentioning it + aph being pregnant with AARONS KID who would be a DESCENDANT OF SHAD really made it kinda obvious to me that they would be bringing him back somehow

and then when they first released the s3 episodes and i watched the first few, i knew i was right lol

the only reason zane should’ve been brought back in s3 was to explain in further detail how vylad died, whether that be because of zane himself, because of garte, or whatever and whoever else jess and jason might’ve had in mind

the reason shad doesn’t hit as hard of a villain in mcd is because all we have of s3 is buildup. and because they wanted to focus on zane since they bothered to bring him back as a villain instead of properly using zenix or gene or EVEN FUCKING BRIAN WHO GOT A GHOST MENTION AT THE BEGINNING OF S2 AND THEN NEVER AGAIN IS MENTIONED DESPITE HIS BETRAYAL

obv they had bigger plans for shad as the antagonist as shown with the heart of darkness mini arc, and the clips they would show of him in the nether, and the little convos between him and aaron, but we’ll never get to see the fruition of that buildup because of the forever hiatus we got after the “We NeEd To Go TO TULa” thing

i REALLY wish we’d gotten to see more of the characters and plotlines that were brought up in early s3 and the entirety of what we got, and ik everyone else feels that way, but i feel like there were such interesting little threads they left in too that have really kept my attention and now i wish i had a genie so i could wish that i could know what direction they were going in

one thing i am liking about the zane episodes is that they’re not shying away from the fact that zane is, in fact, an unredeemable person in diaries. bro was threatening and physically hurting emmalyn, killed an innocent old woman for legit no reason just to scare her, razed an entire village to the ground and slaughtered almost the entire place, killed KENMUR and even threatened a CHILD on screen

the mystreet purists and the zane infantilizers probably hated those episodes and only focused on the fact zane was saying emmalyn “belonged” to him, as all wattpad 12 year olds love from their favorite serial killers

you know you’d think the aaron haters would talk more abt how his sacrifice in s2 ended up fruitless because one, zane became a shadow knight in the end (which like a lot of people i wish hadn’t been done bc zane deserved to die and this really did make the sacrifice redundant) and two, his body ended up being used to try and kill aphmau and go after the daughter he didn’t know he had

it’s really fucked up but i’m surprised more of the mcd aaron haters don’t celebrate it lol

finally watching mcd s3 as i dogsit and they really take themselves so much more seriously than in s2. like obv they do it in s2 because that’s when jess and jason really started immersing aphmau into the world and it wasn’t just a let’s play anymore, but it’s even more apparent in s3

there are definitely still funny moments, as it is still mcd and jess’s channel and i have laughed quite a bit at some of them (a lot with travis and levin bc they’re such cuties 🥰) but they really wanted the tone set with this one

the gene arc had me losing my mind tho i was SO mad at the fact they had him make kawaii chan be “in love” with him instead of dante but honestly that is kinda a gene thing to do and i may love gene as a character but DAMN do i hate him in these episodes lmao

HE WAS SUPPOSED TO KILL THAG FUCKING BABY OH MY GOODDDDD LOORDSS!!! It’s literally what he was supposed to do it’s the same fucking storys btu Vylad has wonders of self control.

lmao i remember being so annoyed when i was younger and didn’t watch aphmau that much anymore but would occasionally check in every now and then, and i found out they had kawaii chan and zane get together. i was like, of course jess being a weeb would go for the most obvious anime trope pairing. i found it so annoying because it was the most basic thing ever, esp since i didn’t think they had the potential for that dynamic in any respect
