His smile breaks into one more genuine, and is followed by a chuckle. Typical Kagerou! The unease in his frame loosens. “Hmph! And then you’d be out of a job, wouldn’t you?” His optics brighten. “Or not.”
He pats Kagerou’s arm, continuing (as he gives the sound a quick scan,) “Let’s say I did. What would your next personal project be, hm?”
“Who knows,” Kagerou shrugs, “maybe I’ll retire. Buy a cottage down by the beach.”
He covers the wound with his hand to subdue the flow of oil suspecting it is at the heart of Shadowmaru’s unease. He’d have to visit the repair bay soon if he were to have any chance of avoiding Toudou’s scolding.
“Ah, I see it now. You could have a little hat, and Mr. Motorcycle could lend his shades. Mini Boss would visit and help Build Team apply sunscreen on you while you lounge, and we could bond over sand castles.” Shadowmaru chuckles and, after a moment’s pause, reaches toward Kagerou’s wound. The tip of his digits click as metal plates slide aside to reveal hyper-sensory equipment; his fingertips light upon the warm metal and he can discern the steady thrum of pumping fuel. Not serious by any stretch of the imagination, which makes his own reaction all the more troubling.
“I can see why it would appeal to you.”
Kagerou resists the urge to pull away when Shadowmaru inspects him. He doesn't like being fussed over but if it eased his brother's concern, he'd allow it.
"But we both know that won't be happening." He gently pushes Shadowmaru's hand away once he's finished. "You'll always be immature."
He smiles.
"So I'm afraid you're stuck with me."
