It amazing how you can learn more when you pause and ponder with such scenery contrasting this concrete jungle, after meeting and interviewing a bunch of people - who are either undeniably nervous or pretends perfectly not to be unnerving; and of course, those who have successfully internalized confidence, mind over matter. This reminds me about take aways that somehow dispelled my yuppie delusions not so far ago. Here are some of unsolicited life lessons: Continue Dreaming. Our world is sparkling with opportunities for any dreamer to seek fulfilling success. The specific road maps may be ambiguous at times, but it’ll work itself out somehow—just have faith, pray and dive in somewhere to keep moving forward. Spare yourself thinking that you’re special. The truth of the matter is, you’re not special (at least not now). You’re another completely inexperienced yuppie, who doesn’t have all that much to offer yet. However, you can become special by working wisely and hard enough for a long time. Mind yourself more than others. Grass can be seemingly greener on the other side is passe, but in today’s image-shaping society, other people’s grass can look like a splendid pasture. The fact is that everyone else is just as self-doubting, indecisive and frustrated as you are; and if you just focus on what you do and can do, then you’ll never have any reason to feel insecure of others. Disclaimer: Pardon me if I can't remember who should I be crediting these learnings but I'd like to say, thank you. To my friends who can’t help telling me that I am becoming more like their parent, this is what we call growing UP. #realizations #careerlife #yuppie #corporateworld #work
This an extremely once in a blue moon moment for me because today I ran into Miss “D”, the goddess. Happiest to this talented woman, whose legacy extends to all of us (You know who you are.) and never fails to touch anyone’s heart. In it’s truest sense, she is an inspiration to many - a strong, independent, classy woman; a the creme del a creme in field of restaurateur of this country. And, I am honoured to have met such an extraordinary soul - one of the remaining kindest people I might ever know in this lifetime. See you around, Miss “D”! #blessed #inspired #amazinglife #missdisthebest #seeyouaround
This is the view I see at my work during the light and dark. It's stress relieving every time I peek outside, gazing with amazement on skyscrapers complimenting the horizon, and wondering how the street lights have not faded ever since my first day here. I'm still young and naive so I decided to make a another career out this sipping familiarity I see from the inside. I'm a professional day dreamer, day and night, so with no pretensions I'll let my fingers type on my keyboard, allow my left hand to grab my tea, and my eyes to wander at my favorite corner. #work #corporatelife #professional #daydreamer #career #ff #tag4likes #l4l #instagood #instalike #igers #igerspinoy #igersasia #thoughts
Dear Ading David, You look better and happier than yesterday. Props to you because those are good signs of recovery. Anyways, I think you should know three things relevant to your hospitalization — First, I thought you got your high fever because you've been playing Pokemon Go out in the rain again. In cases, remember to use your umbrella, check PAGASA's weather forecast and avoid getting run over by capable people. Secondly, I know you got your own apartment now but try to check on us every week or during your rest day. We are virtually neighbors. In all fairness, I tried looking for your new address but I easily got lost so lets agree on my first suggestion. And lastly, when I called mama that you got high fever yesterday she cried on the phone. She left her work and let her business run by itself to take the earliest bus from Ilocos to Manila. See how great your smiles now. Please take all your time to recover because work will be just there waiting and piled. Sincerely, Kuya Erwin #sick #brothers #mother #family #getwellsoon #weheartyou
I would like to share two things — First, a lovely excerpt I came across my binge reading – "One day, it'll dawn on you that you've been drunk-happy quite often in this life. That you've been giddy like a kid about nothing in particular, while you're in the middle if nowhere, with no specific someone to hold responsible for your smile. I know you'll bless the day you realize you've known true joy, and on the occasion of this year's World Happiness Day, I wish that day will be today - and also every awesomene day after that (Lampa,2014)". And then this photo, which I'll caption – "Putting the missing pieces in place." Props to my thoughtful brother who orchestrated this for me during my catharsis. #reflection #selflove #happiness #family #growingup
Turning a new page of my career in marketing and communications. Ecstatic to see what is in store for me and my new team. I'll do my best and keep it going.
Unconsciously we all have a standard by which we measure other men, and if we examine closely we find that this standard is a very simple one, and is this: we admire them, we envy them, for great qualities we ourselves lack. Hero worship consists in just that. Our heroes are men who do things which we recognize, with regret, and sometimes with a secret shame, that we cannot do. We find not much in ourselves to admire, we are always privately wanting to be like somebody else. If everybody was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes. ― Mark Twain
Waves rolling endlessly over unforgiving salinity, calming sea breeze touching skins, calling of doves at noon polish troubled souls of the ship wreck after the storm.
I can’t wait so I’ve peeked. I saw these donuts in the fridge. Somehow, I was reminded by these of Evelyn Tooley’s Taught Me Purple. As I intend to feast while the drizzles and winds billow over our balcony,I recited these lines from my childhood.
‘My mother taught me purple Although she never wore it. Wash-grey was her circle, The tenement her orbit.
My mother taught me golden And held me up to see it, Above the broken moldings, Beyond the filthy street.
My mother reached for beauty And for its lack she died, Who knew so much of duty She could not teach me pride.’
The sunset effect hovers, the shadows and silhouettes appear, signaling the darkness to arrive. I remain still while listening to Simon and Garfunkel, The Sounds of Silence. It goes: Hello darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again, Because a vision softly creeping, Left its seeds while I was sleeping, And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone, 'Neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more. People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence. "Fools," said I, "You do not know. Silence like a cancer grows. Hear my words that I might teach you. Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made. And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming. And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence."
Let me tell a short story, like many beginnings I should begin by saying, ‘Once upon a time, there were two souls.’
The younger was nocturnal, who was raised by morally upright parents, then after his mother decided to be at home full time and hands on. A licensed nurse turned customer care professional, who was shunted from professions to compensations, listening to unreasonable foreign blabbers and monitoring unapologetic AHTs (Ave. Handling Time), capable of handling nonsense and priorities and corporate policies, while grinning with his infamous line - 'I don’t care.’
The older was diurnal, who was largely raised spoiled by a gambling grandmother, before his mother became a full-time-mom. A communication major turned marketer, who is shunted from deadlines to the deadliest lines, compromised to corporations, assertive and competent and independent, incapable of tolerating mess and wanting to reconcile success and personal happiness and scolds the younger for his apathy and indifference.
I would like to state that there is neither a happy nor sad ending in this story. Actually, there are no endings at all.
Allow me to tell another story, a moonless night I remember.
It was an empty white room with two mono-block chairs and a wooden table. The unsuspecting victim is seated. The hoodlums, clothed with respectable costumes, are ready to play their parts. The con artist extolls his convoluted made up story, desiring to inflict terror to the victim.
I was the victim. I recalled trembling while texting two numbers, one unavailable and the other was the younger’s. He called back, asking me what happened?
Come and help me, I said. He rushed to get me out of that pit hole. Gutted in the face of terror, I did not realize how he managed to set us out. All that had resonated is that he had stood for me, strong and level-headed. He never told me I was stupid to have caught up in stupidity itself.
Every time things get rough between us, I think of this story. When he is too lazy to mop the floor or get the dishes done, when I am hysterical with the mess at home, when he does not clean the dogs’ poop beside him, when he becomes more like your worst nightmare, when hard heads clash over petty arguments and chores then 'Rock Meets Wall.’
This is a story about how two people, who grew in the same household, shared the same bed and lineage, can be so different yet still live to the truest essence of the word —brothers.
It is about knowing that someone will always have your back, who will allow you to clean the dog poop then offers you food after, who would still continue to say, 'I don’t care,’ but helps you in the advent of tragedy.
There are no prince charming, princess and fairy godmother in this story. Instead, this is a story of how sometimes the most belligerent, twisted and stubborn person you thought becomes your role model.
I will never forget this everyday. Happy Birthday David Aaron Antonio!
