In this blog i’ll be mostly talking about Groot and Rocket because i love their relationship so much. I love their friendship in the comic/game universe and the father/son relationship in the MCU.

One of my favorite jokes in vol 3 was when Quill was depressed about losing Gamora and Rocket said; ‘’Mantis, why don’t you just touch him and, you know, make him happy?’’ 

and to that, Groot went ‘’I am Groot?’’ everyone was ‘’Ew gross!’’ and Rocket said ‘’No, not like that. Touch him with her powers.’’ 

LMAO I barked a laugh at that, Groot, you and your dirty mind 😭😭

Don't get me wrong, ship whoever you want but i just can't ship Rocket with anyone in MCU 😭 like imo it just doesn't work, i can only imagine him as single.

It's different for the comics, Lylla was his love interest but they had a different dynamic in comics, I kinda ship him with Groot in some comic runs but again, different dynamic. I can even see shipping him with Quill in comics but MCU? I'm sorry i just can't see any of it lmao

This part from vol 2 is so underrated because Rocket wasn’t just humming the song to himself, he was humming into his comm so Groot can know he’s alright and not get scared...

I love how in this game Rocket gets into a protective mom mode when it comes to Groot. Groot was offering himself to get sold (of course they’ll bust him out later) but Rocket wasn’t having it...

Also Dave Bautista’s delivery ‘’His face came off’’ to Gamora ripping HE’s mask off was chef’s kiss 😭😭 I barked a laugh in the theatre when he said that, he delivered that like so perfectly like i can’t explain how funny it was to me lmao

Ok one of my favorite thing about the opening scene is how worried Groot for his other dad 😭😭 he hurried to Peter to check on him...

i like that in the mcu guardians of the galaxy, the characters that die do not come back as the same people. it doesn't happen just to gamora; it's the same thing for groot.

idk if this is canon, but i've seen some folks online say that the groot we see from vol. 2 and beyond is more like OG groot's "son", hence why he's reborn as a baby and his dynamic with rocket is much more of a father and son relationship than their original friendship, or perhaps a brotherly bond.

it's interesting that in the very beginning we see rocket mocking groot for "whining" over his lost limbs, claiming that they'll grow again... but groot's sacrifice later on is indeed a sacrifice. he straight up dies. a baby groot might be born by the end of the first movie, but he's not just a tiny version of the same groot. he's a whole other groot that grows up with other life experiences and other people. we see that rocket doesn't treat groot like he does the original groot, for that matter. it's rlly like he's adopted his dead friend's child.

i'm saying all this bc i still see some ppl complain that they miss the old groot, or that they don't understand why the current groot is not like the debut one. like, i can kind of get the feeling, i especially feel this way about gamora because she RLLY didn't need to be killed off (even if i deeply appreciate vol. 3 for respecting her character and not just making her end up with quill like she was the same gamora), but i feel that groot's case is a whole other case.

groot's death makes sense with the franchise. the whole premise is around a group of ppl who have lost someone. it's entirely about death, trauma and grief. groot not coming back as the same groot means that the death had its consequences. that even if the person returns, they're not going to be the same. nothing is going to be the same. even then, rocket never once stops taking care of groot, and the other guardians all become his parental figures, too. of course, the original groot should never be forgotten, but the guardians need to be there for the groot that is now with them, which is the whole theme of vol. 2: parenting.

it's interesting to see that both groot and gamora suffered the same fate, both out of sacrifices. but obviously, groot willingly died to save the only family he ever had. gamora died because of her asshole of a father. neither of these deaths are fair, but the latter is definitely more infuriating, and i kinda do wish gamora died similarly to groot due to her character arc, but well. at least i'm satisfied with how vol. 3 ended the trilogy.

Agree with everything you said here but i’ll just add that i’m also guilty of saying ‘’i miss old Groot’’ but that doesn’t mean i don’t like the new Groot! I’m in love with new Groot’s father/son relationship with Rocket SO MUCH! It’s just the thing is, when i say i miss the OG one i mean in a way that i wish we got more opportunity to see his dynamic with Rocket. We’ve seen so little of them together and it makes me sad. Still wishing we got to see how him and Rocket met but who knows, maybe we’ll get another special and they’ll give us that in future...

I always talk about how much i love Rocket and Groot but one of my favorite characterization of them is in the GOTG game, i love how Rocket whispers ‘‘I love you too’‘ to Groot...

Rewatching Gotg vol 1, i noticed that Rocket has 22 counts of escape from prison yet Groot has 15, so this makes me think that Rocket escaped 7 prisons before meeting Groot and then they escaped 15 together maybe? Also again, who tf is Tibius Lark…?

Okay looking at their criminal records again, i’m 99% sure that Groot’s criminal record grew after meeting Rocket and becoming a duo. I mean let’s compare them:

For the starters, Groot has 3 counts of GBH (Wounding or grievous bodily harm with intent) well, Groot always acted like Rocket’s personal bodyguard so this isn’t surprising. But about the mercenary act, Rocket has 12 more, which again makes me think that Groot only got 3 of them with Rocket. 

I’d love to headcanon that Groot didn’t have any criminal record before hanging out with Rocket, not saying that ‘’Rocket was a bad example for Groot’’ nah, as Gunn said, Groot was treated like an animal for the most of his life so i believe whatever happened in his past, he was probably wandering on the streets al alone. No income, no one understand him etc. I know in comics them meeting in prison is canon-ish but in MCU, i headcanon that Rocket found Groot on the streets alone. 

Like, looking at their rep sheet i don’t think Gun was intended to make them meet in a prison. Groot’s criminal record is way smaller than Rocket’s and matches with Rocket’s.
