This is the time to just do It!” talks. “Don’t just sit there snacking, chase your dreams” chat. Like we don’t already have our own inner critic harassing us every time we put on netflix? We don't need the ‘motivational’ talks that mimic our critical internal voice. We don’t need to be guilted into chasing our dreams. We don’t need external ‘shoulds’ to verify our internal ‘shoulds’. We need revolutionary kindness to break cycles of procrastination & avoidance. When we are in a cycle of procrastination, we stop trusting ourselves because we never follow through. Rebuilding this trust does not happen via guilting or harassment. It’s an easy route to go down when you’re fed up with your patterns, & you just want to get out of your own way & do the work - I know. But you wouldn’t rebuild any other relationship with harsh words & punishment, so let’s not resort to that now. You are enough before you achieve your wildest dreams. You are a miracle right now, on the couch. Don’t treat yourself like you’re doing something wrong. You’re doing nothing wrong. I promise. So don’t beat yourself up. The worse I am to myself, the less likely I am to show up. The crueler I am to myself, the more likely I am to give up & spend the rest of the day procrastinating. Shame & criticism will not take you to where you want to go. I promise. It’s time to mother ourselves. To give ourselves tiny tasks & reward ourselves with bouquets of tiny miracles. It’s time to gently & with adoration allow ourselves to level up and make art. Tomorrow I will write down two ideas for my novel. I will take the guitar out of the attic.
