Kait climbed off of the bus, flipping her bag over her shoulder and slipping the other arm through the strap. Today was a very uncommon day. The sun was shining and while usually she would be at the shelter helping the animals, today they didn’t need her as much and instead, she decided to surprise her boyfriend after his class. She sat herself on the ledge near the stairs, swinging her legs back and forth as she waited for him to appear.

“Oh.. yeah, I knew that.  Sorry, I totally spaced on it for a second,” Sam couldn’t believe that she had forgotten.  She knew she had to keep a better tab on her sisters but it was hard when she wasn’t living with them anymore.  “Guess I’m just tired from practice.”

“Don’t scare me like that, I thought you had been replaced with some robot.” Kait chuckled before speaking again. “Sorry, they just uploaded the Spy Kids trilogy on Netflix and I watched all three last night.”

“What kind of classes are you taking?” Sam was shocked by what Kait had just said.  Hanging from the ceiling?  That didn’t sound like a normal class.  At least none that she could remember from when she was in school.

“Sammy...I’ve been taking aerial classes for like 3 years!” Kait blinked at her sister before taking a drink of water.

“I mean, probably people treated him like he was the most perfect man in the world and his highness could have everything he ever wanted. You know, the opposite of how your mom turned out.” It was true. Addison had grown up in a rich family, dysfunctional as they were, but she had still turned out to be an amazing woman. “You did not! Mira Beatrice Montgomery, you did fucking not!”

Watching Kait step over to him and stumble right away made Azhar chuckle. “Considering that I’m probably about to save your dancing career right now, I’m going to pretend you never said that.” He grabbed a pair of gloves and walked over to the bed. He couldn’t help but frown at the sight of her foot. “Okay, with that much of swelling, it clearly looks like a sprained ankle to me.” He told her as he looked up at her. “But I can’t be sure that it’s not broken unless we get an X-ray…”

Kait rolled her eyes before settling them in a glare aimed at the doctor in front of her. “Don’t act like you’re the hero and you’re about to save me. If I didn’t want my parents to worry, I would have to gone to Torres, whom for the record, I trust  hell of a lot more than I do you.” She looked at her foot sadly after he spoke and sighed softly. “Damn it, I’m gonna kill those fucking guys.” She ran a hand through her hair, ruffling it a bit before laying back.

“I know right? It’s making me laugh because he’s a jackass and my mother is a force to be reckoned with.” Kait took a sip of her smoothie and smirked. “What did you do, Mira Montgomery?”

For some reason her stomach twisted at the thought of her daughter ending up just like she had been in the past, emotionless, not ready to feel like or be loved, scared. Setting the glass down on the coffee table sans coster for once in her whole entire married life, Amelia sighed reaching forward for her daughters hands. Sure, she knew that not everything was black and white, as simple as it was for Amelia herself, even though none of had seemed simple at the time. “Kaity, sweet girl..” The nickname and pet-name fell all at once, something that hadn’t left her lips in quite a while. “The games.. they aren’t worth it. If it was the best thing ever.. chase it. Let yourself feel it, you gotta because love is the best high you’ll ever have. Don’t be stupid like your dad and I used to be.” A squeeze to her daughters hands and she let them go. “Thank god, I’m so not ready for grandma status quite yet. Not from you.”

Tears welled up in her eyes as she listened to her mom, thinking of everything she was saying and suddenly Kait burst into tears, her head falling and her breathing became erratic. “I don’t...What if he doesn’t love me back? What if he doesn’t love me and I ruin and 19 year friendship over all of this shit? I can’t mommy. I can’t lose him. He’s the only person outside of this family that makes me feel like I’m special or loved. I don’t...I can’t lose him.” She wasn’t hyperventilating anymore and had moved on to just crying. All this pent up emotion and she was pretty sure she had taken it all out on Dr. Khan. Maybe she’d apologize and maybe she wouldn’t but right now, she just needed her mom to tell her everything would be okay.
