After some serious consideration, I’ve decided to put “A Tale of Two Rulers” on hiatus until July. 

Other than going to school and working on this fancomic, I work part time for Ohio Health as a Patient Safety Aide and the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for help at all the local hospitals. I’ve decided to increase my hours to full time, or higher if there’s a need for it. I’m excited to get to help out, but this also means that other things in my life need to be put on a temporary pause.

Hopefully this rough patch (to put it lightly) will be over by July  and normal life, art, and general human well-being will make a joyful comeback for everyone.

If someone is suspected to be botting, it might be nice to give them a heads up warning so they can change what they’re doing. I’m absolutely certain my friend was not, but the only thing they do is sit there and click. If that was a problem, they should have known it was going to. I don’t agree with this ban and I’m not allowed to comment about it on site. I think that communicating in the future is important.

I’ve seen more than a few of these instances, where people say they’ve been banned for botting when they haven’t. And the response is always that Aywas doesn’t ban without strong evidence, but like… as far as I know, we never actually see that evidence. We’re just forced to take them at their word. They could put it in the post about the user being banned instead of just saying the reason they were banned, at least, but they haven’t. Sure, the evidence could still be faked, but it would at least make a stronger argument than “trust us.”

It’s not going to happen. You don’t stop botters by showing them how they can be caught, and staff is not obligated to tell you their methods of detection

If they have such a multitude of things to detect cheats like they say they do, couldn’t they only show one thing? Granted, I don’t know a ton about it, so maybe you are right. Maybe they can’t do so without people reprogramming things (if that’s even possible). It just kinda comes back to that matter of trust. Maybe they really are right 100% of the time, or maybe they aren’t. But how do you prove you WEREN’T botting? Because sure you can appeal, but what can you do aside from just saying you weren’t? You can’t prove something wasn’t there, or anything like that. I’m not even saying Aywas is necessarily in the wrong here, just that I’ve seen so many of these instances where people are banned for botting and saying they aren’t, and then big arguments being started over whether or not they’re innocent, with no real weight to it either way. The user says they weren’t, the staff say they were, and that’s kind of it.

Honestly, I feel like even just saying the KIND of botting would help. Because the TOS only really lists Auto-buyers and Auto-refreshers, and everything else is left ambiguous (aside from ‘abusing glitches’). Every time one of these botting things happens, there’s this big scare about Stylish/Stylus and whether or not you can use it, and whether it might get you misidentified as cheating if you click too fast.

We can’t reveal even a portion because then that is something else that potential or current botters would be able to work around.

It is ultimately your decision to trust us on this matter or not, but you can step back and take a look at things just as I mentioned the last time there was this scare:

- If stylish caused people to get banned, it would be more than 1 person rarely getting banned at a time, it would be a substantial amount including staff

- If clicking fast got you banned the majority of the site would be banned. Everyone clicks fast. You can ask any number of people how they adventure and the majority of people say they do it while watching tv/videos/music/whatever while adventuring and just idly click click click.

- Hitting F5 getting you banned? I literally cannot stand this one. Have you ever hit F5 on the adventure page? It does *nothing*, at all. But when people are in AC, how many people do you think use F5 at that point to refresh to check for pets? The only time F5 gets sketchy is when you do it to buy stuff, which is why we added the option to choose a quantity for items so that people don’t feel the need to hit F5 for mass purchases.

Then there is the groups of people who are typically closest to the individual who got banned who begin the fearmongering. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes out of genuine fear. The ones who go and post AC’s, vents, suggestions, etc, all to garner attention for these issues because they think it is one of the above mentioned items that got their friend banned. This causes situations to escalate even further, because again, we cannot and will not post any public “proof” of anything. We don’t do that for any type of bans, it is unfair for the user to have their dirty laundry aired. We only post very generically what they did, and how long the ban is, so that those who are close to them or who may be in trades with them are able to know what happened.

I understand that it is scary when a friend gets banned, and you may feel it is unfair, but we take immense precautions to ensure there is no doubt in any member of staff that an individual has committed the violation of ToS before a ban was committed. I personally know the struggle this can cause because one of the first things I had to handle when I became Community Manager was banning a close friend for botting. The moment I got on the team I learned there had been discussions about this individual, and I didn’t want to believe it, and trust me... seeing the evidence doesn’t make it any easier. They came to me and tried to tell me they didn’t bot, and I flat out told them that I had seen the evidence and been involved in the process and at that point they apologized and told me that yes they had... and you would be surprised how many people via support e-mail after their appeal do actually admit to it after some time, in hopes to get the ban lifted, but those never go public because we will not violate our users privacy.

So I am sorry that we cannot share the information with you for how we are so certain, but as I said it is ultimately your decision to trust us or to not but we will not be changing our policy to satiate curiosity.

well, after about three years of not being on aywas for a combination of reasons, i was curious to take a quick login and see what’s up lately (though, unfortunately, i don’t actually have the time to get back into playing). it would seem, however, that what’s up is my account was accidentally deleted and i could recover it, but who knows how long that’d take…

Hey there, it is very very rare that accounts get deleted, if you e-mail the support mail we typically can get back to you on the weekends, ensure that you are using the e-mail you originally signed up with,

If you no longer have access to that e-mail then try to include enough information for us to identify you such as what that e-mail was, your username(login name), your account number, date of birth, and state/country of registration.

i might have to try that! it’s weird because ?? i remember the username but it’s not logging me in and i don’t think the passcode ever got changed. i can use ay on my phone and that’s it ahh

If you have your login info saved in your phone depending on what browser your phone has (mine has chrome) you can go to settings and click passwords and it’ll tell you your login + password.

if you e-mail in and just use the e-mail linked to the account  you don’t need to know any other info, we can tell you the info associated with your e-mail

Please be wary using the ugly but easier adventure script

This is Pasha #22059 I have used the ugly but easier adventure script for years with no problems but recently I was banned for bot like numbers. I have very fast internet (50 mbps+ at times) and manually click as quickly as I can when adventuring with the script. I was banned out of the blue with no warning. I tried to appeal but sadly staff were unable to recreate my numbers so the ban will not be lifted at this time. Since staff couldn’t recreate my numbers hopefully most users using the script will be safe, however since I WAS able to have these numbers just using the script I believe it must be possible for some others. The script is wonderful and really helps make adventure easier but I implore other users to recognize the danger in using it and be careful.

Now that im on my computer, I can elaborate a bit more on this. Staff take the time to look at the data within the server over the last few months/up to years before they ban anyone for botting. 

To be labelled at botting, you have to be clicking at such a high consistent rate for long periods of time (usually past 1 hour). Consistent means at the same rate the entire time, so for example, clicking every 2 seconds for an hour, and not going before and after that 2 seconds. It is practically impossible for a human to click at a consistent rate like that. You will never have a clean 2 seconds every click, and when they look at the logs and they show that its a consistent click every few seconds, its going to be registered as botting as, again, it is humanly impossible for you to do something consistent as that each time you adventure for long periods of time. A human click will always be a few seconds off of each other, and will vary greatly throughout an hour.

Ive used stylish for a few years, and I have internet that has hit up to 100mbps. Using high speed internet does not affect your click registration for adventuring the way you think it does.

 They will not ban you for using stylish, they will not ban you for clicking fast. They will ban you if you show inhuman clicking consistency for long terms that lines up with a computer program clicking for you. Again, they use months worth of data before they ban. If for over a month you’re showing you click at the same rate for hours every day, I’d be suspicious too.

I just want to add in that Creek does not speak for staff.

While I do appreciate Creek stepping forward about Stylish not being the source of banning, the rest of this information is purely based on assumption.

There is several different things that are evaluated when an individual is banned for botting or exorbitant use of site resources. It is a multi level, very long(sometimes up to 6+ months of gathering information), very in depth process that many Admins and Moderators are involved in.

I just wanted to get that out there, as I have had several people message me paranoid about our bot-detecting system and I wanted to assure in a public place that it is not that simple.
