Cover to OVA 5 episode 5.
Our good friend and an upcoming artist, Oosaka Hananoko passed away from Cancer. He was working hard to be one of his new artists over the past 3 years, But Unfortunetly yet another friend of ours will not see his dream. Y_Y https://twitter.com/angryvikings/status/1337402280665079809
Sad news, everyone. I’ve just learned that Oosaka Hananoko (Sumire Club 8823) has passed away. He had done many Tenchi and Tenchi adjacent pieces of fan art over the years, but unfortunately he had been battling cancer for the last few of those years. He was a wonderful artist, and I will miss his art very much.

No Need for Sitcoms
So, awhile ago I shared the post about how Ryoko was directly inspired by “I dream of Jeannie” and got to thinking, is it possible that other characters were inspired by random American sitcoms that happened to make their way to Japan? How would we have gotten Mihoshi? Her wardrobe is wildly different than the rest of the cast, which was pulled more from traditional Japanese wear. Mihoshi’s outfits feel downright western.
Well, Charlie’s Angels was a popular show, and does feature a detective with big blonde hair.
Its close, but something doesn’t feel quite right. Then I think, wait, what’s a popular show that ALSO featured a male fantasy of a single guy living with multiple women, lots of pratfalls, and wacky scenarios? Oh right. Three’s Company.
Now its starting to click. Big blonde hair, a bubbly personality, a California tan, high waisted 70s pants and pink tops? Chrissy Snow sure seems a lot like Mihoshi Kuramitsu.
Beige phones were obviously incredibly common, but I like the consistency here anyway.
Note the high waisted beige pants, along with a big collared sweater that also stops just past the elbow.
Who needs to ever wear a bra when most of your wardrobe is tanktops and tight fitting sweaters?
Apparently, her full name is Christmas “Chrissy” Snow, which while very silly, doesn’t feel too out of place next to Mihoshi, which translates to “Beautiful Star”. Though its worth noting that many character names in Tenchi Muyo are derived from Japanese towns, mountains, and landmarks. Mihoshi’s home planet, Seniwa, is said to be covered in snow most of the year, but I’m willing to say this is more of a fun coincidence. Last thing I’ll mention is that when Suzanne Sommers was fired after a salary dispute (which was BS, she deserved to make as much money as Ritter, for as popular as she was) she was replaced by Chrissy’s sister Cindy.
I rest my case.
One of the cuter things in later Tenchi stuff is that Mihoshi is shown fishing a lot. Its a nice little addition to her, fits her relaxed nature. I also like that she hangs out with Tokimi. I should draw Tokimi more.
Been thinking about just doing daily sketches for warmups. Probably a lot of Mihoshi, but others too.
These are the most finalized form of the OAV5 extra pics as far as I can tell, each outlet (like Amazon has that Sasami one, second pic) giving out a different one with purchase. Last year, when I gathered them up, the coloring wasn’t quite so refined.
Official Tenchi Muyo Dogtags for OAV5 :D!!!!! https://www.dmm.com/en/mono/hobby/-/detail/=/cid=storeghb0024324/
Looks like someone was trying to turn Tenchi Muyo once into a fighting game just for fun on an x68000, a computer only sold in Japan. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnLeGs4BmrE
A Masaki Kajishima sketch of the vampire Beth from Masquerade OAV, another harem anime he made. I really like how much she looks like Tenchi’s mother here :)
Best versions of various OAV4/5 Pics + Extras I could find. For example the first Sasami without watermark I found. Enjoy!
Mixing two obsessions with one? Why not !
Eda and King are perf for this cosplay anyways
