Vintage Cookbook - Kitchen Korner (St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church Women of Kamloops B.C.)
I recently brought my collection of Kamloops community cookbooks to the Kamloops Museum and Archives. Here is a recipe from one of those tomes. I believe it dates back to 1960s and contains a recipe from one Mrs. G. Cavazzi for a classic Canadian-Italian dish:
Spaghetti and Meatballs (Mrs. G. Cavazzi)
Mix desired amount of ground round or ground veal and pork in equal amounts and season to taste with salt, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, grated onion and any herbs desired. Form into small balls and fry until golden brown in a skillet. Lift out and place in casserole. Thinly slice 1 clove of garlic and 1 small onion and place in skillet with 1/4 pound butter and small amount of fat left in skillet from meatballs - fry lightly, then stir in 3 tablespoons tomato paste. Stir and fry lightly until it darkens slightly, then add 4 cups canned tomatoes or tomato juice. Add salt, pepper, cinnamon, cloves, sprig rosemary, parsley and sweet basil to taste. Bring all to boil. Pour over meat balls in casserole and simmer one hour. This can be sealed or refrigerated and brought out when ready to use on spaghetti.
For spaghetti - 1/4 pound to each adult. Boil until done, then drain well. Put a layer of cooked spaghetti in large serving dish, then a layer or grated Parmesan cheese, alternately, then pour hot tomato sauce over and mix well. Arrange meat balls around spaghetti. Keep in warm oven until ready to serve. Serve with green salad. This recipe is flexible - add or delete as you wish.

My thanks to the museum’s archivist, Scott Owens, for his assistance in the processing of this donation as well as sharing insight into the museum’s culinary collection.
I highly recommend visiting Scott at the Archives to peruse these recipe books. It is immensely heartening that our local Museum preserves this type of local history.
