It is only when sweeping gesture is made and he is addressed that his gaze finally flickers. Burnt amber hues lock onto Elijah briefly before he is pausing to press the button to shut the door.
He steps, leather boots squeaking against over-polished floors before he is sitting across from that critical eye. His own expression is neutral, save for the naturally hard– unnerving gaze all Coursers seemed to possess.
“It is going extraordinarily well. Easy. A little too easy to–”
Finally, there’s a break in composure as he turns head over shoulder, like he expects someone to have appeared right behind him. But they are still alone– and he will have yet to recognize that he is merely growing a sense of anxiety and paranoia.
His Courser training is slowly beginning to shatter like Plexiglass, letting little things seep through the smallest cracks. Like emotions. He ponders if this will become noticed– and he will become compromised.
He shows no fear towards this though, and returns to previous demeanor.
“A little too easy to misguide. I believe I have gotten closer to coming in contact … Although …”
He looks down momentarily,
“I detected the shimmer of a Stealth boy while watching one location, I kept sight of it before it disappeared behind a building. I … Did not pursue. However, I kept track of their movements. They traveled North-East of that location. I figured I would travel in that direction next and seek out anymore signs.”
It could have been a chance to make contact– if it had indeed been a member of the Railroad. But that damn nagging sense of loyalty drags him back from the edge of moving forward.
Elijah's hands folded in front of him as he regarded the synth with a predatory gaze. Despite Connor's attempts to remain as casual and neutral as possible, Elijah could see right through him. He had made him, after all, and thus it was easy for him to see the veneer begin to melt away. Emotions and their pull were often too strong to ignore, particularly for the latest lines of his technology. They were becoming more real, something he found exciting, and why the railroad had begun in the first place. Many saw it as a threat. Elijah saw it as the next step on the evolutionary ladder.
From this report, there was nothing for him to pursue further. At least not that he would put on paper. Connor behaved perfectly normal. Elijah also wasn't the sort to bring attention to his own ambitions. The further along they continued, the better. He couldn't risk being found out. So, on paper, Connor was a perfectly obedient and loyal synth who was doing his duty in investigating the railroad. Elijah wanted all the information on it that Connor could acquire before he made his move. At least they were progressing.
"Continue investigating as you have been. Follow your gut instinct. I'm not able to give you instructions on the fly, as you're well aware, so you're just going to have to do your best in the pursuit of knowledge. If we can understand what's going on, it'll be better for all of us."
Namely, because he had aims of using it to his own advantage...But Connor didn't need to know the finer details. Not yet anyway. That would come later. When Connor had more at stake.
“And you? How have you been faring? Still with us?”
