Introverted Intuition: Izuru thinks in the long term, visualizing clear goals and setting plans to accomplish them. Few things capture his interest, but when they do, he focuses on them intensely—the question of whether hope or despair is more unpredictable occupies him for years. He’s also insanely perceptive of others, immediately picking up on Nagito’s true nature and correctly analyzing Junko’s abilities, within minutes of conversation and with very little outside information. He just knew. His intuition is so supernaturally good, in fact, he’s bored with the world because of how accurately he predicts everything.
Extroverted Thinking: Logic, experiments, and analysis drive Izuru’s decision-making process. He speaks bluntly and relies on hard facts. He lumps people into categories of ‘the talented’ and ‘the untalented’ and has contempt for those in the latter. When told despair is what will save him from his boredom, he initially dismisses it because it’s illogical for a human to desire. However, seeing concrete results in favor of Junko’s philosophy causes Izuru to adjust this conclusion, and he adjusts it again when he sees similarly from hope.
Introverted Feeling: He’s stoic and confidently pursues his own interests, regardless of how it impacts others. Izuru allows the entire world to be destroyed so he can observe the hope/despair conflict, and later starts a killing game for more study. He falls back on his Te when faced with emotions, like trying to examine despair through a logical lens, but he’s not unfeeling. He privately mourns Chiaki for several years, harbors bitterness towards Junko, and smashes Shirokuma and Kurokuma’s heads in quiet anger. He’s still but deep, keeping his emotions internalized.
Extroverted Sensing: Izuru is able to keep up with sudden changes in his environment and can react quickly to threats on his life. However, he has little interest in the physical world, is generally reactive instead of proactive, and often detaches from his surroundings. In Chapter 0, he’s so focused on and excited by the rocking of a boat, he doesn’t even realize he’s on a boat at first. When he’s in the midst of the First Killing Game, he apathetically observes from the background.
Enneagram: 548 (5w6, 4w5, 8w9) - The Scholar (He’s cold, clinical, detached from humanity, and investigative of his interests. Works quietly in the background. Confident and has intense, narrow focus. 4w5 is pretty dark when unhealthy, it fuels his nihilism, elitism, and willingness to observe morbid things. He can be aggressive when angry, but because of his 9-wing is slow to get to that point. 6-wing helps his Se a little by watching for danger.)
Ah, Izuru. I love you, but you’re a serious wreck. Dominant Ni + Inferior Se + 5 and 4 is a huge cocktail for brooding and contemplation.
Fun fact: Ni is the rarest function to have as your dominant. Combining INTJ and INFJ, only about 3% of the Earth’s population is Ni-dom.
