Listen up here everybody, my description says everything you need to know.
I write for myself and whenever I feel like it so I do not take requests.
My blog is NSFW free but there might be suggestive content.
No matter what happens I will consistently write Markiplier fanfics because God knows I’ve been stuck in this fandom for too long (7 years at this point) and his characters just captivate me so much. Other fandoms will come and go.
For ease of tagging if I write for any of the “with Markiplier” Mark, they just fall under the actor mark x reader tag
Actor stopped his drafts for your next adventure when the entity whispered of your upcoming arrival. In the Actor's usual fashion, he had to make a grand entrance.
The manor was dark, cold, and empty when a spotlight (accompanied by the overdramatic switch sound you often hear) shone over him as he slowly walked down the stairs.
“Welcome back, my dear!”
He descended from his grandiose staircase wearing his signature red suit while something shiny gently flutters and falls (was it glitter or foil? Either way it sparkles under the light)
“I missed you so much” he starts, taking your hand for a kiss.
Actor being Actor kissed the back of his hand, a faux gentleman just as you remembered.
“That should be my line, jerk”
And it was back to snark just the way you usually reply to him. However, the smile on your face betrays the words you said.
He grins widely before escorting you to his planning room. You two have much to talk about in the time you were apart.
Dark
“I’m back”
You said softly, suppressing the smile on your face.
Dark was in the middle of talking to Lunky about its most recent failure in his office when you just popped into existence.
He glanced over your direction discreetly as you checked yourself as though your own body was an alien. He went back to Lunky who stared back and gave a shrug.
“I guess you are”
You didn’t hear him nor see the slight upturn of his mouth afterwards.
Whatever adventure you had, or whatever life you lived since you two last met will be given the proper time it deserves. After he talks to his underling that is.
Engineer, Google, and Yancy under the cut.
Engineer
“I. AM. BACK!!!!!”
“Welcome…back?” Mark was busy repairing a pipe that got busted in the cryogenics room when you decided to hug him so suddenly from behind.
He always loved giving and receiving affection from his Captain, but this was an uncharacteristically energetic greeting from you.
Last time he saw you was no more than 10 minutes ago when you informed him that you’d check up on the sleeping colonists as Celci asked him for help.
“Captain, this is kind of an emergency” as he looked back, he saw the state of disarray you were in and decided to compartmentalize the rant he was very ready to give.
Your hair was a mess, a bit burnt along with certain areas of your clothes that looked like close call encounters. Now that he’s paying attention you smelled like oil, grime, blood, dead leaves and a whole lot of other unpleasant scents.
“Hehe don’t worry about it” you waved both your hands haphazardly and let out a fake laugh.
You hugged him again. Tightly this time. Missing his warmth as you recall your journey.
“I just really REALLY missed you”
He hugged back this time, with a load of questions but his Captain needs comfort right now and he can give that. Maybe not much since you’re in cryo but it’s the thought that counts.
“And I can’t feel my legs. Yeah… maybe you should actually fix that pipe, or I should go see a doctor”
Google
“Shut your mouth Google. We will talk about this later”
You were seething the moment you got back to your apartment. Despite your absence the apartment looked like it was very lived in. Lived by a rat.
You have a lot of broken shards to clean and laundry to do and the excitement from seeing your favorite AI had to be ruined by said AI.
That said as you started to clean up, Google had already decided to talk to you about unread emails first. With the only one marked as important coming from him.
The Subject? My Human. The opening statement? I missed you
Hopefully it would be enough to get you to smile.
Or at least placate you to forget why you got mad in the first place.
Yancy
“Yancy I am so sorry I just left you in the middle of your performance-”
The moment the portal closed you began rambling to Yancy about the adventure you had. And you might have hit your head on the top bunk but let’s not worry about that!
Reassuring your favorite interdimensional (?) inmate why you couldn’t see the whole thing is VERY important.
You were in a rush to explain everything because God knows when you’re gonna get transported again that you didn’t notice that your head is lying on his thighs, on his bed, but he does.
“Shh shhh shh shush” he animatedly said and lifted a finger to your mouth which got you to shut up but confused.
“Youse need to take a breath, you’re turning blue in the face”
Now that he mentions it, you do feel lightheaded.
“And uhh… before you continue… Welcome back and thanks for coming”
Oh my god you literally just visited him once out of the many 3rds sundays you probably missed and you didn’t even get to hear him finish his performance through the stupid glass (which is very meta of how you can’t know what the hell happened and the literal screen that separates your realities) and he’s super thankful about such a small thing. If it was possible to fall in love with him even more this moment sold it for ya.
Hopefully you got to hear him sing the song while cuddling in that small and cramped bed before you leave.
Hi I’m back~ you guys wanna know why? It was Jack with the whole IRIS thing. I got curious about how the Mark fandom was doing which led me to reading fanfics which led to me having this bubbling feeling that could only be let out by writing fanfics and then I word vomitted. 1 hour and 30 minutes of writing.
BTW here’s my docs where all the Mark writings are. There’s about 14 pages worth of content and more or less 50 ideas that I haven’t continued since June 3.
On an unrelated note, since last month I’m aroace now (and I’m still low-key in denial about being aro). Go me? Still figuring things out.
P.S in my rush I forgot to write for Damien. NOOOOO. Well, I did write for 5 characters and that’s a lot so I’m good. Should probably make a lil header thing for the other characters if I write them more. Also I have to fix my tagging system. That’s mildly annoying.

ngl I half don't understand what I wrote myself. Something about angst but trying to do it in poem form or something similar to Dr. Seuss' writings.
Well it's a fun exercise that's for sure. Written in under an hour with minor adjustments. Enjoy. Also I guess my first fic for this Fandom hello. Came back after rewatching the film with a family member. Will adjust formatting when I get my hand on a pc in a week.
He meets you at your low point and you meet him on his high and to be frank, you don’t want to deal with him.

Music blasting on full volume as you down another glass. One shot. Two shots. Three shots. For there is more to come in this funky night you found yourself stuck in.
You had ended up in a fight with Damien and ran away to drink your worries away. An illogical move on your part, future attorney, but the feelings overwhelmed you even though it wasn’t even a big deal. He acted so strangely, and you were so off put by it all and the fatigue and stress from university was starting to catch up to you. A gagging feeling rises up from within you but you gulped it all down and tried to go for another.
You hadn’t even changed out of your university uniform when you ran to this underground bar. The same one Damien brought you once upon a time. Trying to get the man out of your mind, you ask the bartender for another shot when a hand comes up and puts it down.
“Miss, don’t you think you’ve had enough for the night?” Your vision was swirling and it took you a moment to focus. His voice sounded suave and you could tell he was wearing a bright red suit but you felt like gagging again when you caught a whiff of his perfume. “Bartender, do you have any bucket to spare?” the item was shoved in front of your face, or at least that's how it seemed, you’re drunk, it doesn’t matter. Hugging it tightly, you started to puke and you think it made the onlookers awkward since it would stink up the place. Or maybe they weren’t and you’re just overthinking again. Placing it on the table, you lie your head on the counter as the bartender takes the bucket to the back.
There’s a placating massage down your back “I just entered the establishment but you seemed so depressed that I couldn’t help but comfort you”. You put a hand on your temple and mutter out “Thank you sir, but please kindly fuck off”. His laugh was annoying, you think to yourself. He ordered his own glass and made a toast. To who or what, hell, you don’t care enough right now.
“A beautiful lady is in misery while I had the grandest day of my life is an odd trade off” the man muses. He doesn’t drink it down in one go and paces himself, watching as you furrow your brows, trying to focus on something, somewhere else that wasn’t your current location. He looks down on you with feigned pity and speaks easily “It would ease the worry in my heart if the lady would share her plight but she seems to have drifted off far away”. You flip him off and turn your head the other direction. Eyes closed as the throbbing headache comes back.
“If she won’t share a story for tonight’s festivities then it’s only courteous of me to share mine in its place” He says with arrogance. The man in red places a hand down on the table, looking at the lady who was still turned away from him. He starts “Today I had been accepted to be part of a magnanimously grandiose televised show tune and for an actor of my caliber I was honored. Then in the afternoon, I had a lavish feast with my fiancé with her favorites. Her shocked face was so adorable. And tonight you got to meet me to help chase your rain clouds away” You’d think he likes to gloat but honestly, he’s just an egomaniacal man who can’t read the room. He’s not intentionally ill-mannered. Just dense… and maybe likes big words to make himself look smart. He definitely used a word or two wrong there.
You try to sit up properly, one hand on the counter to stabilize. “Don’t use words you don’t understand dumbass” you used your free hand to point to yourself. “I’m no linguistic but what you just said doesn’t make any sense” your words were slurred and your brain was still a pile of mush but you’re pretty sure that came out right.
“Ah! She speaks!” he says enthusiastically.
“And why should I care about some random celebrity talking to me when I’m feeling like ugh peace? piece? of shit” you accusingly pointed at him and he feels offended by your words. “Lady, you have not been in the right state of mind all night but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt since you’re intoxicated” he rubs your head and the headache subsides a bit. “My name’s Mark. An actor since my childhood years that has been in an insurmountable amount of shows ranging from televised Hollywood films to stage plays to radio shows. I have been in every single form of entertainment media a person can be in” Mark says with practiced speech. A small part of you is impressed but the feeling of disdain from the continuous interaction overpowers that “I’m not asking for your job experience. I just want you to shut up and leave me be”.
“It seems you’re starting to sober up madam” Mark seems to ignore your words which annoyed you greatly. You wanted to wallow in despair for the night and deal with the problem later but a new problem came to you and now you want to deal with the other one instead. He’s a pain in the ass and if he says you’re sober, and you’re not sure why you suddenly trust this man’s word in this particular instance when you’ve been combative the entire time, then you can walk back to your dorms no problem.
As you were about to turn around and walk off he grabs your wrist and pleads “If you really want to leave, at least take my suit. It’s cold out tonight”. He doesn’t seem to understand what was wrong about the way he interacted with you all night but the gesture seems to be done in good faith. You’re somewhat aware as you grab the cloth that it’s made out of uncommon but comfortable material. You started to walk away from him but suddenly remembered “OH! Ma– Your perfume sucks and would you pay my bill for me? If you’re a celebrity that much won’t be a problem, right?”.
The cold night air sends chills down your body. Your body temperature is finally starting to cool down from that fiery hot atmosphere inside the bar. Letting out a breath, you mentally thanked the guy for giving you his coat for free. If you would take a guess, the coat was much more expensive than what your professors would earn in a year, or maybe you’re overestimating it, maybe underselling it? The name escapes you but you did hear Ma something. You didn’t pay attention to what he said for most of the night, it’s all going through your head like a blurb.
Something about an actor and something about how you didn’t like something about him. Huh… You’re not even sure if you’d meet him again or how you’d give this red velvet-like coat back. Stuffing your hands inside the coat’s pockets, your mind starts to calm down and you could smell the alcohol coming off your clothes. It reeks of it and you look down to see your uniform stained.
Wait a minute… If the school figured out you wore the uniform to an underground bar past curfew, you’re screwed. Not only that, now you have to find the owner of this coat after you clean it or maybe you could just sell it and earn fast cash and apologize to Damien and you haven’t even done your essay due tomorrow. You bash your head against a wall and cry out “I don’t want to deal with this right now damn it!”.
You start to understand why drunkards are the way they are.
Dear God, the way I wrote Actor in Dancing in the Rain and here is so different. What did the years do to you and where’s my son?! And how come introductions of both characters in this AU happen when the reader was so fucking drunk. What’s wrong with me.
Unknowingly and unwillingly got yourself tangled up in a messy affair. For shame rookie.

“Great work today everyone. Get some rest and come back 8 on the morrow for the debriefing”
It was almost midnight. Our work for the day had just finished and people were slowly filing out of the room tired. We went overtime today since our most recent case had left the entire department stumped. Whoever the killer was surely knows how to leave a mess with minimal clues about themselves. I stretch out and hear my bones crack and realize I was left alone with my senior investigator. Abraham was a cool and methodical man that has been in the business for about a decade now. Despite his intimidating stature (which I’d say is enhanced by the dark glasses he always wears), he’s a very caring individual.
“-and partner, the criminal was last spotted near your general area. Stay safe. If anything happens, call me.” He says, giving me a pat on the back before leaving the meeting room. I followed suit.
This is something I could never say to his face but I’ve always had a fascination with the dead. It may have been a major reason why I joined in the first place. I could always work in a morgue but seeing the bodies freshly decay while the blood is in the air and a mystery is yet to be solved, it’s a sick interest but I can’t help it.
Going up the flight of stairs of the apartment, I noticed that my downstairs neighbor’s door was wide open. It’s past midnight now and most other occupants are asleep. As far as I’m aware no one in the complex is crazy enough to leave their own door open this late and with fear of a murderer running loose. Filled with a burning sense of curiosity I quietly enter the room.
Their living space is dark, the lights in this and adjacent rooms are off. No lights are peeking out from under the doors. The TV is turned on but there’s only static, the noise grating my ears. The only lights helping me see in this place were the ones coming from the windows. Open doors, lights off, and a chilling silence, everything points to someone breaking and entering.
Clicking my tongue I fight off the urge to stupidly ask where the residents were. This isn’t a murder mystery book, don’t say something that would get you killed. Then again I came in here instead of calling Abraham or even the local police so shame on me. Even going back to my apartment would be better than this.
As I stand in the middle of the living room, I try to focus on any sounds that could tell me that the intruder is still around before I try to find the occupant. I could faintly hear the sound of metal on wood coming from the bedroom door. As soon as the sound finishes, the bedroom door opens with a loud creak. I tensed up and realized that there was no place for me to hide effectively.
Still, I hide behind the sofa, trying to buy some time. I fumbled my pockets and tried to send a quick SOS message to Abraham. The loud thump of their boots alerting me of their presence, I quickly pocketed my phone and reached out for my handgun.
I could feel a shiver go up my spine and quickly turned and pointed, I hope, in the right direction. A man stood there, one hand resting on the top of the sofa and the other holding a handkerchief. He was wearing rather dark clothing and my gun was pointed right at his chest where a gold necklace rests comfortably. I look higher and see a quizzical look on his face. His eyes were hidden behind a pair of dark round glasses but his eyebrows were visible and his mouth said it all.
“What the hell did you do?” I grit my teeth and tighten the hold on the gun. The safety lock was on and I didn’t have time to put in the ammo but I had hoped that my finger on the trigger would intimidate him enough. He wipes his face with the handkerchief and squats down, leveling with me.
“Put the gun away, little red” he smiled widely, baring his teeth as if introducing himself as the big bad wolf. “Are you mocking me?” I furrow my brows. “Not necessarily but it would be a shame to kill someone else that is not my target” he replied, pocketing the handkerchief. “Especially someone as horribly cute as you” He inches closer and I could see something shining from the corner of my eye. Before I knew it I pulled the trigger.
“Called your bluff” inches away from my own face, he takes the handgun and throws it behind him. I feel a cool sensation under my chin and it's most likely a knife considering the shine I saw earlier. One wrong move and I could be wounded or wound up dead. Damn it. I’m only hoping Abraham is on his way with the police right now.
“Now what to do with a pesky little rat” he presses the knife a tad bit harder. Enough for me to know that he’s serious but not enough to draw out blood. I tighten my fingers and breathe out. The metallic scent floods my senses and makes me realize I’d been holding my breath this entire time. It reminds me how I got myself in this mess in the first place.
“W-well, you can start by introducing yourself? Kind of rude to just uhh… cut me off” my voice quaked a bit and I almost wanted to cough. He may be a murderer but from our very brief interaction he seems to hold himself to a certain standard. Please for the love of god get here already Abe!
He loosens his grip and pulls away “Sorry but I don’t give out my name to just anyone. No matter how handsome and or beautiful they are”. The man looks unamused but his guard is down. “Then I’ll just call you Murdock” I’m really pushing my luck here.
“I’ll allow it-” Murdock was cut off mid-sentence when we heard police sirens blaring outside. He rushes up and peeks through the window. I got up from behind the sofa and went over to see bright red and blue lights flashing outside. A couple of officers came out and a black car arrived a little later where my senior stepped out. I glanced over to Murdock who was focused outside and let out a smirk.
“But it seems we’ve been reported already. Let’s continue this talk after we’ve escaped.” He grabs my hand and runs in the opposite direction. “We…?” He opened up a window which had the emergency stairs outside of it. “You’re my accomplice now. You’ve witnessed the crime and didn’t report it to the authorities.” Well about that…
“Feel free to be caught and beaten up by them” His words were sharp yet he’s standing on the other side, waiting for my answer. Despite wanting to run away from him and report everything that had happened, I felt a tug in my heart that hesitated. “Fuck it” I climb out and he helps stabilize me once I got out. “Good choice, little ray” I roll my eyes. “Where the hell are we going now, Murdock” I snapped back. “A place with many, many secrets” he starts to run while I try to follow close behind.
Down the metalwork, through the tight alley, as I follow him I think to myself. This night may have started out eerily and with myself in a losing position but this murderer kept me alive and made me his accomplice without knowing my background. I could become an informant, suck him dry, and rat him out later. Well this all worked out in my favor.
Suppressing a giggle, we finally stopped in front of a shady liquor store. He looks back to me and opens the door “After you”. Espionage isn’t my thing but this… this seems like a lot of fun.
Started writing on May 22 but the idea came earlier. Yeah I just called Mick’s character in this universe Abraham because it’s close to Abe and they have similar jobs so why not. Also no, you cannot change my mind. His full name to me is Mark “Murdock”.
The Little Red Riding Hood was written just as a replacement so I didn’t have to write Y/N but the more I thought about it I guess it does fit. Y/N=Little Red, Murdock=Wolf, unnamed dead character=Grandma, Abraham=The Huntsman. Except the story went awry. I also ended up making a joke. Little Red, Rat, Ray. I wonder what kind of 3 letter R nickname he’d give next lol.
Watched the entirety of Nine Aetheria’s WKM Vocaloid Musical and I was a sobbing mess internally by the end of it.
I really loved the nod to the vocaloid night series at 37:20. I always did think WKM was similar to it. But my God every time Actor would relate to the district attorney throughout the musical then that entire bit at the end. Gosh, it just fuels me. I just love stories where Actor who has gone through all this pain and suffering realize that the DA is also experiencing this and just takes them on an adventure. Shitttttt
I love Damien and Dark (especially Dark) to an unnatural degree but writing about Actor hits different. Something about two broken and betrayed souls reaching a mutual understanding and experiencing “life is for the living” just hits the right notes to me.
Bye! off to writing more drafts that who knows when or if it will see the light of day. If I don’t procrastinate or get side tracked there would be one in like 3 days, maybe even earlier. No guarantees though.
He raised an eyebrow at your sudden confession but didn’t reply nor seem affected by it
You stood in front of him, a blushing mess wishing deep inside he’d do it right away
Dark passes by you, leaving you feeling ashamed
He didn’t do it but that’s on you for expecting he’d indulge your selfish wish
It was never discussed or brought up again until one night after you came home overworked.
You immediately go into Dark’s office to greet him before heading to bed when he motions you to come over
Groggily, you walked over to his side, assuming he needed help with legal documents again
Letting out a yawn, you try to balance yourself by putting both hands on the side of the table
“Come closer”
You’re now standing next to him, face a foot away from the document
Trying to read the contents of the document you squint your eyes, mind hazy from exhaustion
Then you feel a prickling sensation on the side of your neck which wakes you up from your stupor
You put a hand over the area and look back at him and Dark had a satisfied grin
“Did you–” your mind was still trying to catch up to the present but your body seems to have caught up if the rising temperature you feel in your face is anything to go by
“It’s a reward for dealing with the troublemakers earnestly”
He takes the your free hand and bites on the ring finger
“Do you want me to be rougher next time?”
Actor
He chuckles at your comment as tears gather at the end of your eyes because you could already tell he’d joke about it
“I’m dead serious” you’re already deeply frustrated at the amount of times he’d make a passing remark that turns your brain into mush.
The brushing of fingers, his hand resting on your hips, breath on your shoulder as he rests. There was so much tension between you two it’s so deeply frustrating
You didn’t want to ask for a kiss and like hell did you want to punch him in the face and the only option that came to mind that could fulfill both for you was to ask him to bite you
“Alright darling, come over here” He has his arms wide open and you mutter curses under your breath as you step into his embrace
“Do you have anywhere in mind for me”
You couldn’t voice it out so you point the area just beside your neck “Do it quickly, please”
He holds the hand you pointed with and caresses it gently. He hums as you drop your hand and look away from him
Actor took his sweet time holding you in his arms, fingers ghosting over the area, he blows air into your ear and you step on his foot impatiently
He seriously loves to create tension between you and it’s pissing you off
He finally bites down but you don’t feel a sharp and stinging pain but a wet and slimy texture followed by the sudden sting.
You let out a yelp and bite down on him harshly. He hisses and pulls you away
“What was that for”
“For being an absolute asshole about it”
He starts to pepper kisses all over your face as an apology
“Let me make it up to you. Where else do you want me to mark you?”
Don’t mind me actually screaming while blushing when I thought of this. As someone who’s always liked the idea of being bitten I couldn’t help but write it. That felt good to get out of my system. I’ve been fangirl squealing about a homebody Dark so I might write that. Who knows what I’ll finish next honestly.
You guys have no idea how many fic ideas are sitting in my docs just because I kept putting off Roommates. It’s not the start of this AU (That belongs to Dancing in the Rain) but it does establish one major thing. Damien and the reader are in the same college/university, are friends, and roomies.
Every fic that takes place in this will be semi related to each other. Can still be read as their own individual one shot but some will need more context than others. I can finally start on that Abe x reader.
Your college life has started and you’re roommates with a familiar face.

Arriving in front of the gates of the prestigious institution, you clutched your acceptance letter in one hand and baggage in the other. It’s finally the day. You’re going to start your university life!
Entering the grounds with confident steps, you headed over to the dormitories right away. A few days prior you came here to familiarize yourself with the surroundings and avoid embarrassing yourself. Glad the prior knowledge came in handy because you could see others having trouble navigating the area.
Inside the dormitory building there weren’t a lot of people walking around just yet. It was early in the morning and others were still getting oriented by either the teachers or friends who already knew the place. Grabbing the key to your room, you tried to unlock the door only to realize it had already been opened. I guess your roomie came in early as well. Without dwelling much on it, you opened the door and prepared to greet them.
Oh… Well this is a sight. You had been made aware beforehand that the school would sometimes pair male-female students but you didn’t expect it to happen to you. Certainly not with a visually pleasing one too. He’s standing in the center of the room, right in front of the window which casted a light warm glow from the morning sun. Beneath his feet is an opened luggage with few stray clothes lying around. He stands up then pauses. His eyes widening the slightest bit. ‘He looks like an angel’ you think to yourself. The soft image that your eyes are seeing doesn’t help.
“Uhh… hello there roommate!” you greeted with a wave and entered the room. Closing the door behind you with your foot, you go over to him trying not to look awkward. “The name’s (Y/N) it’s a pleasure to meet you” you extend a hand to him. He takes it firmly and says “So we meet again. My name’s Damien”. He smiles softly and you feel like cupid just shot an arrow through your heart.
Wait… again? “You mean to say we’ve met each other before…?” you ask unsure, letting go of his hand. Now he looks surprised “It’s been a little over a month but we danced in the rain”. “AH!!!!” you let go of your luggage and put a hand over your face. The luggage lands with a thud which spooked Damien. “That was embarrassing. But ah, thank you so much for helping me out. I feel sorry for troubling you that night” a small blush forms on your face. “It wasn’t troublesome at all. Besides you made my night with your antics” he replies.
“To think we’d cross paths again. It’s like we’re fated to meet each other” Damien lets out a laugh. You finally recovered from the memory and fiddled with your hands “I didn’t think you were a local or a student at all but this is a nice surprise. At least we’re not complete strangers”. He didn’t seem to be offended by your wording and took it in stride. “Well then. I shouldn’t hold you up. We still have classes to attend to” he finishes the small talk.
You two finished settling in and Damien even helped you with your stuff since he was already mostly done when you arrived. The two of you meanwhile talked about some ground rules but they were pretty standard and all boiled down to one thing. Respecting each other.
After that day you two just clicked. As if you two had been best friends all your life. Attached to the hip, rarely apart.
There are some things you learn about another person after living with them for quite a while. I noticed Damien had an undeniable charm that would make even the most disagreeable of people listen to him, even if unwilling. He would often fix his hair when stressed and has a habit of fiddling with whatever he has on hand when he’s thinking. His eyes express more than he thinks. They always wander to whoever he last spoke to, most likely thinking about what impression they have of him. It lights up when someone would mention an actor he liked as if he wanted to spill every little thing he knew. The way it widens when I’d surprise him with a meal after he stayed up all night to perfect his assignment. These are just some of the small things I noticed about Damien while living with him for some time.
We’re currently in our shared room after classes. He’s practicing for an oral presentation tomorrow and he asked me to listen to his speech delivery and that I didn’t have to watch him since we’re both crammed for the week. I didn’t want to do it half-heartedly because then neither of us would be really focused on our own tasks. So here I am, sitting on my bed, watching Damien with a focused gaze as he continues his presentation.
His body language conveyed a sense of confidence and coolness to it that would assure the listener and even convince them. His voice was loud and clear, each word enunciated with vigor. The only thing I noticed wrong is that his face has a disconnect with his words.
“So how did I do?”
Damien sat next to me, his form relaxing.
“You did great. The teachers already love you, pretty sure they’ll pass you even if you just stood there and talked about what you ate for breakfast.”
“Great isn’t really helpful. If that was what I wanted then I would’ve asked anyone else to be my audience. I need an honest opinion.”
He pouted and I rolled my eyes.
“Well, your non-verbal language is top notch like always…”
“But?”
“But you always get so worried before a presentation. You do great when you’re up there and actually giving it. Seriously, I’m betting that you already rehearsed the whole thing at least 5 times before I arrived.”
“I may have done something like that”
“Yet your hands were shaky half the time you did it”
To emphasize, I took both his hands and waved it about.
“Noodle arms! And somehow they magically become solid during presentations!”
I let him go and lie on the bed, eyes still focused on him. He laughs “I know there’s more”. I let out a huff and sat back up.
“Yeah because you still haven’t gotten that face mismatch fixed. Your eyes don’t convey the same thing that your words do. Just earlier you talked about how the faculty is lacking in manpower compared to the student population and your eyes were excited instead of serious. We’re just at the start. No solutions just yet. You got too excited again”
He lets out a content smile.
“And there’s my little monster”
“Hey”
“Thanks for your evaluation. I can always count on you to point out my flaws.”
He gives me a pat on the back and stands up.
“I’ve already taken up too much of your time. The sun’s all gone. I’ll buy us dinner while you start on your assignment.”
“Alright. Just order the usual”
He nods, grabs his wallet and leaves.
It’s been no more than a few seconds but the soft look Damien gave when he called me that nickname pops up in my mind. Ahh I went overboard again. “He’s definitely trouble”. I lie back down on my bed and feel my face grow hot. I suddenly don’t want to do my assignment anymore.
“He better have ordered extra… and understand science better than me”
Bro my brain shut down at the start of the fic because I was focusing inside my head about the cute roomie things and I had 0 clue how to start it nor do I know how the whole process works. I just wanted lighthearted fluff. Also I had fun with starting the first five paragraphs. It’s just the vowels lol. Made for a fun mini challenge.
Lmao from not having the reader talk much in previous fics, this one is a chatterbox.
It’s May 4th, the day Mark would come over and pick you up for your date. After the disaster that was your first one, losing your card, getting threatened by a look-a-like, and having to shoot them, the two of you somehow ended the date okay. He treated you to some ice cream and that simple date plan went so much better than the restaurant and theater experience.
Remembering the event, you roll your eyes as you finish wearing your outfit for the event. A knock on your door gets you out of your reminisce. Opening the door of your apartment complex, Mark stood in front with the same clothes as your last date. “Bonjour” he starts. “I got you something” from behind him he pulls out a bouquet. “Roses” you honestly didn’t expect much considering how the last one went but the gesture already made your evening. Taking the bouquet of roses from him, you politely said “thank you”. A smile present and your eyes shining. He didn’t throw it behind him and actually gave the roses to you. He’s really doing so much better this time around.
“It’s so good to see you again. I can’t wait for our second date!” Mark said. “As can I” you couldn’t help but answer in such a way even if it was out of character for you. I guess you got caught up in the cheesy atmosphere. You stepped aside the doorway to let him in so the two of you can once again do final discussions of your plans before leaving. Mark looked a bit surprised and reached for something else behind him. It was a big brown stuffed teddy bear and he handed it over. Good thing the bouquet wasn’t huge so you could hold the fluffy thing.
He stepped in and looked over the photo of your parents next to the doorway and had a knowing smile on his face. You went over to your small coffee table and set down the roses on it and the teddy bear on your couch. Sitting down you went to hug it comfortably while Mark sits beside you. “I’ve got tonight all planned out” he started. “We could go and watch a movie or go to the nearby 5-star restaurant. Don’t worry, I know someone there. Wink” he said the word while actually winking. You wave your arms frantically “None of those please”. “It was a mess so maybe let’s try something else?” yeah, you don’t want any chance of encountering the fake Mark again. He gives you the creeps.
“Then we can go to the carnival and share cotton candy, and maybe even hold hands” he was giving you a flirty look and you couldn’t help but let out a small sigh, smiling. “Classic romantic. Did you actually bring money. It was a pain to explain the whole thing to the bank you know” you pouted. “Actually I did! I have my own wallet. Cash and card and check so that we have multiple options for payment. I even checked my balance so I’ve got everything covered” what seemed like a very normal gesture really made your heart flutter. This means he’s going to pay for tonight and he was being sorry in his own way, even if he didn’t say it. “Well then. I’ll be relying on you on this date” you stopped hugging the teddy bear and left it on your couch. You gave him a quick peck on the cheek and grabbed your keys.
“Come on, we got a date to start”
Mark actually called on a cab prior to entering your place so you two didn’t have to go and find one and lose precious time. From the time you opened that door he really proved himself to be more capable this time and so far, the date has been going swimmingly.
Arriving at the carnival at night is the peak experience. The bright and dazzling lights with the bustling crowd of families and couples having fun and losing themselves to this wonderland. Mark had been holding your hand ever since you stepped out of the cab and you didn’t mind one bit. You two are no strangers and being next to him makes you feel a bit mischievous.
The laughter and chatter made for nice background noise. The excited hollers and tearful screams, the music that the stalls and rides played while there are street performers doing their acts. It’s a sensory overload but it was a nice change from the quiet that you are used to. “COTTON CANDY! COTTON CANDY! GET YOUR OWN COTTON CANDY!” a vendor shouted, grabbing your attention.
You pulled Mark close to you and pointed towards the seller with a huge smile. “Alright, we could go grab one before going on some rides” he patted you on the head and headed over to the cart. Mark bought one huge pink puff and let you have the first taste. You savored the flavor having not tried it in so long. It was childish, you were acting childish but this was supposed to be fun and he doesn’t seem to mind. You take off a small piece “say ahh”. Mark was getting his change when you did this but still followed “Ahhh”. He licked his lips after and said “it’s sweet”. Oh God you two are so cheesy it’s quite sickening. You both laughed after a momentary pause before walking around again.
You both tried out the balloon darts game. Mark was doing absolutely horrible. He couldn’t even pop a single one after 30 tries. It was so bad that even the guy behind it gave him a small puppy keychain (that was not among the prizes) for free. Your own aim was completely average and nothing to write home about but seeing him being pathetic brought you a bit of sadistic joy. When he got a literal consolation prize, you gave him a pat on the back. Half meaning it and half laughing at it. “Let’s go on some rides to cheer you up” you comforted. “Yeah, that would be nice” he teared up a bit.
Cheering him up wasn’t that hard. You started with the carousel, a classic ride starter, and kept changing horses whenever you could. Mark would try to follow you but sometimes the closest one would have a person be seated and it’s not like he could push a kid or their parents off. It was followed by bumper cars and the two of you decided to ride on one. Your car malfunctioned mid-way which left the two of you awkwardly in the center being bumped by everyone. Briefly, the two of you passed by the haunted house and decided to not enter. Yeah, Horror and your duo don’t really mix together. The last ride you tried was the spinning tea cups. Guess what you two did? The dumbass decision of spinning it before it started all the way to the end. Dear God you two acted like you were drunk when you got off. A staff member had to help Mark out because his legs wouldn’t cooperate with him.
Sitting at a nearby bench, you two simultaneously released a sigh of relief. You looked over to Mark who looked like he was about to pass out. You hold a hand over your mouth feeling a puking sensation come up. It didn’t lead to anything but that was certainly a sensation. “Ahaha…” you let out a laugh after gathering your bearings. “This was seriously a lot of fun, Mark. Thanks for taking me” you fiddled with the dog keychain he passed on to you from the balloon darts. “Yeah no…” he sat up straight. Looking over to you he finished his thought “I’m glad you had a lot of fun. I’ve been worrying about this for weeks”. Mark then looks somewhere else “besides, it’s not a carnival date unless…”. He didn’t finish his sentence but you know the answer. It isn’t a carnival date unless there’s a Ferris Wheel ride.
Thing is after every ride, you wondered if Mark was going to do it. He was an incredibly cheesy hopeless romantic after all. It wasn’t until now that you noticed that the Ferris Wheel hasn’t moved at all since you two arrived. The lights of it were turned on, displaying different colors in different patterns. “Come on” Mark then drags you over to the ride, and you pocket the keychain.
Arriving at the foot of it, you two notice the under maintenance sign. Mark looks around and gives you a shush. He climbs over and opens the line gate for you to enter. You looked around and realized how lax the security was in the nearby area. There were no operators or security personnel in sight. People didn’t pass by much so you were clear to go. ‘This is illegal’ you thought. But what the hell, you two were here to have fun.
When you entered, he was already scrambling over to the carriage and opened the door with a gentleman's pose. As if you could hear him say ‘After you’. Feeling in-tune with him, you curtsied and sat down. He left the door open for him to hop in later and fiddled around with the controls. He looked like he knew what he was doing and all the while you think to yourself that you’re just as bad as him. An enabler. You could go ahead and end the date earlier and leave it as nice as it was but on the other hand doing something that goes against the laws (that you personally don’t think would hurt anyone else) makes you giddy.
The Ferris wheel slowly started moving and you see Mark rush over. He gets in right before it goes up and closes the door properly. He sits opposite to you and let out a little gremlin laugh, like a kid up to no good. “I can’t believe you just did that” you said, smiling. “And I can’t believe you just let me do that” he replied. “For someone who came prepared today it makes me wonder if you were prepared to break the rules too” you say, trying to hold back an amused laugh. “For you, I’d be willing to” and he was back to being a romantic idiot.
You two laugh lightheartedly and chatted as the Ferris wheel went around. About the date and about things that happened in your lives before tonight. Mid-conversation you hear fireworks go off and stop to look outside. There was a fireworks show happening right before your eyes and you couldn’t help but be in awe. Did he know this was going to happen? Wait, scratch that thought. Of course he did. This stunning view, this romantic setting, if not for the illegal activity you just committed, this would’ve been a picture perfect date. “Oh you cheeky-” you look over and see him kneeling down. One hand propped up on his knee. Eyes looking up at you with adoration.
The sight gets your heart to jump. It was like watching a knight take his vow but the knight is wearing a suit and he’s holding a small box.
“My lovely (Y/N), you make me the happiest man in the world and despite all my failings you are willing to give me another chance to make things right. To right my wrongs, rewrite my regrets.” he opens up the box and it shows a silver ring, no diamonds or embellishments. A simple silver band that glowed under the light of the ride. “Would you grant me the honor of being your partner for the rest of our lives” he finishes his speech.
Frankly speaking, this was not quite what you expected. Maybe a kiss, like a really slow one where you two are inching your face closer and closer but not a proposal! Then you think back to how you met him and the string of events that led you to this point and you realize, there really isn’t any reason for you to say no. Sure he may be clumsy and a bit of an ass at times but it was cute and he tries his hardest to prove his worth to you. He easily won you over with his charms and you can’t help but say
“Yes!”
He slips the ring on your finger and starts peppering kisses all over your face, hugging you and smiling like a huge dork. This entire night was so cheesy! There is no other way to describe it. As you two celebrate the last firework goes up into the night sky. He lets go of you and has a relieved look on his face “It would’ve been incredibly awkward if you said no”. You raise your eyebrows. “I uhhh…” he began rubbing his neck awkwardly. “changed your name to (Y/N) Fischbach. Your parents agreed to it so I don’t have to explain to them what would’ve happened if you said no” Mark lets out an awkward laugh. “You already met my parents?” the news was shocking to you that your brain just wiped the earlier statement and focused on the latter part. “Lovely people, they were incredibly supportive” he puts a hand over yours. “I can’t wait for the wedding” this was certainly moving quite fast.
Someone must’ve cursed happy couples because right then, the ride stops at the top and the lights shut off after. The timing is comedic. “Umm… Mark? How do we get down from here”. Looks like that Ferris Wheel really needed maintenance.
Mhm Space was cool but uhh Date Mark came back and I was tickled with delight. I put the date of the well… date as May 4 because that’s when I started writing this. It’s like my own lil’ signature because honestly who knows how long a certain fic is gonna sit in your drafts.
Bro there’s so many ways you can call the ferris wheel ride thing. A cab, a lift, a carriage, a capsule, a pod… How the fuck?!
The fact that some of the ideas I used for RESET Theory ended up being part of ISWM part 2 lol. Apollo gave me the gift of prophecy. Maybe out of order with a few different details but wow that’s a surprise.
(also huzzah! Mark didn’t murder this cute ship whew. I got some ideas cooking up and this confirms that Actor Mark and Y/N are buddies. Let’s go Actor apologists!)
Summary: They’re relaxing in each other’s presence like usual but something itches in the back of their minds. As if this moment is so familiar.
Dark x GN! reader
Word Count: 1090
Dark owns a house separate from the other egos. Close to the Markiplier TV headquarters for convenience but far enough from the egos shared manor that he can properly relax without interruption. Most of the others believe he lives alone and some even jokingly call it his vacation home. What they don’t know is that there’s another person that resides in Dark’s cozy suburban home. One whose presence is greatly appreciated.
The sun is rising over the horizon. Birds landing and chirping happily on the open windowsill. The coffee maker is brewing and a faint scent of coffee beans fill the air.
Dark is taking a sip of black coffee from his mug to start his day. You are leaning on the kitchen countertop next to the coffee maker waiting for it to finish. Watching Dark sitting in a relaxed manner at the table. The monochromatic man was wearing casual attire. If any of the egos found him right now, they'd never forget the look. Some would even laugh even if that means they'd get in trouble. Dark is wearing the darkiplier hoodie from the date with markiplier merch line and some baggy gray sweatpants. Despite hating the man who created it with his entire being, he had a small part that held affection for those that liked his appearance. You got it for free while working with Mark. To think Dark would steal it for himself was laughable. He looked cute, you mused.
You lean forward to the kitchen island with a heart fluttering feeling welling up in your chest. There's a small longing feeling that's been itching inside of you for a while whenever you look at him and you’re not sure why. Your dynamic with Dark is hard to define. There are times where you feel like work acquaintances. Other times you feel like lovers. Whatever and wherever it is, both of you are comfortable beside each other. Dark catches you staring, sending a smug smile your way. You jolt up and turn around.
Good thing the coffee just finished and you grab your mug which has a cacti design on it. He bought the item for you as a reward for helping him out. Dark could’ve given you anything you wanted but you decided on something simple and useful. When asked why you chose it, you replied "It’s prickly and pretty, like you". The memory makes your cheeks burn up and you almost spilled some coffee on yourself. Thankfully it all got in the mug in one piece.
You sit next to Dark with an awkward laugh. He has this questioning look, seeing as how you almost made a fool out of yourself but he doesn’t pry for answers. You sat there in silence, leisurely humming a song while Dark runs a hand through his hair. He sets down his mug and with his free hand plays with the hoodie strings.
Trying to start a conversation, you mention how grateful you are for him letting you stay after the Barrel’s destruction and he replies “think nothing of it”. Small talk isn't either of your strong suits. But you understand that he tolerates you to the point he allows you to rest in his place, free of charge. His relaxed posture, his hand resting on top of yours, and the glances he shoots every now and then, all his gestures and microexpressions tell you that much.
You see a flash of a memory or was it a hallucination? A strangely familiar smile of a man wearing a black suit. And there’s that itch again, like you should know about this but you don’t. You look down to your sweetened coffee and there’s another flash. This time you know you're not hallucinating.
It’s inside an office late at night. You had a mug in hand, making your way to the other side of the room. Going behind the desk, you rest a hand on the chair and the other sets down the mug on the table. “You’ve been working real hard lately, you deserve a break” you say. The man with black slicked back hair tiredly looks up and says something but you can’t hear it. “You can finally have a taste of my special blend. It might be too sweet for you. Like me!” you pointed at yourself in a confident manner. The man laughs with mirth in his eyes and as he takes a sip, you go back to the present.
Instead of being in the seat, you’re standing beside Dark in the same position from your daydream (the right word to describe it escapes you this moment). He lets out a low rumbling laugh "That you are''. He looks at you directly as he’s taking a sip from your mug. You hold your breath. Dark is a naturally domineering and intimidating character. His very presence scares away most individuals. His gaze has that same intensity and sometimes you forget about it because of how caring he acts towards you. While the look was soft, the ends of his eyes are curved upward and a faint smile to accompany it, his pupils are focused on you. The juxtaposition makes you feel squeamish and your stomach feels like it flipped. You laughed, embarrassed. He still hasn't broken eye contact and you can't help but think of how beautiful he is. To have such a close view of him in casual attire with an almost loving look, you feel honored and grateful for the events that lead you to this point.
You unknowingly reach out to move his hair away and that warm and cozy moment vanishes. Whenever you come back from that sense of deja vu, you can see that Dark has this conflicted look on his face. This time it was caused by your touch. His eyes grow cold and the smile disappears. Playing house is over now. You both back away from each other. There's that lingering question in the air that’s always left unanswered. As he puts down the mug you can see he’s asking it too.
“Do I know you?”
An unspoken question and a look that said it all. Despite how close you two feel, Dark always leaves abruptly when an episode like this happens. It leaves you feeling so cold. You can only sleep and wake up the next day acting like it never happened. Maybe it's better that way. The truth might shatter this safe haven you two have cultivated and you're not prepared to face those consequences just yet.
Guys I did it. It's not less than 1k but it almost got there. Finally a shorter read. Also here’s the original prompt: DA & Damien used to drink a lot of coffee together and Y/N and Dark are doing the same but both of them can’t explain this familiar feeling. It’s like deja vu
Wanting to write a fic about the Host because you love him a lot and think his entire concept is so cool but you don’t necessarily see him as a romantic interest despite desperately wanting to date the character so now you’re stuck inside your own mind between being frustrated of the lack of fics surrounding him but not having enough creative ideas to warrant writing one
catch me crying in the club rn. I just have some half baked head canons sitting in my drafts for weeks. Stuck between making him a romantic sap or a dumbass that doesn’t know how it works.
If he truly meant that he loves you so much that he’d risk himself over and over again so you’d get your「Happy End」would you even believe it?

I don’t know how many times we’ve gone through this. Loop after loop. Over and over again in this never ending circle. Vying for your attention, your praises, your touch… Each moment spent so close to you, I feel like I could go for another round. You’re my lifeline in this wormhole we’re stuck in. On the off-chance that we are to part and never meet again... Understand that it’s your fault I’ve gone mad.
Life on the Invincible II was relatively easy, apart from a few scuffles between the crew, they all worked together in harmony while traversing through the universe to find a new planet to inhabit. Their steady system all came crashing down when a new member arrived.
The Captain, that was most of the colonists called them. A quiet fella that tried their hardest to prove their worth even when they’ve done more than enough. Somehow their presence made the place a lot more livelier than the ship used to be, and they were a rambunctious bunch already. The one with the greatest character change though, was the former ship Captain, current head engineer, Markiplier.
He was a semi-reliable engineer, one that had a knack for explosions and flair. Celcionna described him as “a man who only cares for aesthetics but he does a good job at fixing problems”. She might’ve mumbled the last part out in her testimony. He’s serious as he is goofy. He’d usually be akin to a bull but around the Captain he’s nothing more than a lovesick puppy.
It doesn’t matter what he’s doing at the moment. Mark would drop it immediately and rush over to their side, sometimes running around in circles. A huge smile would appear as he talked to them. To outsiders it looked like he would even worship the ground they walk on which weirded out some onlookers (namely CC). None of the crew understood how deep their relations went outside the fact that they “used to be together” as vague and interpretative the wording may be. But seeing Mark’s change in attitude and the Captain seemingly more relaxed figure around him, they didn’t want to bother. If they’re happy then that means the colony would thrive better, right?
“Captain, I vow to never leave you even if an alien colony attacked us right now!”
Mark blurted out the words without thinking. The Captain covered their mouth, trying not to laugh at the sudden confession. The two were sitting on the floor of the Bridge, backs resting on the control panel while eating some instant noodles. Even if I were to give context to the situation, it was still a random outburst. Mark didn’t blush but awkwardly laughed and downed the rest of his noodles. The Captain was eating their own cup at a leisurely pace while watching him.
As often as the others see Mark talking until his throat gets dry, the duo would often have quiet moments like this where they enjoyed each other’s company. Usually after Mark said something embarrassing. When Mark set down his cup and utensils, the Captain turned their body towards him and held out their hand. ‘Pinky promise?’ Mark stuck out his pinky and locked it with theirs. Cross my heart and hope to die.
Mark’s face had a satisfied look and let out a dreamy sigh. The Captain then showed the hand they hid. Their fingers were crossed. Mark let out an annoyed “HEY!” and the Captain stuck out their tongue playfully. They simultaneously laughed at their antics. Really, those two are childish.
Good Morning, Head Engineer! We Are Currently ERROR Years Into Our Journey. Coffee is en route. Current Ship Status Is ABSOLUTELY CATASTROPHIC
Mark woke up in a panic and was ejected abruptly from his cryopod. He only looked around for a few seconds before being shot out into space and knocked unconscious.
Gasping for breath, he rested his hands on the door of the cryopod. Sweat running down his face and once again, he’s shot out of his pod. His mind is still trying to keep up with what’s happening but he instinctively held on to the control panel for dear life. The glass breaks and he could feel the air pressure trying to suck him. As his fingers started to slip, the bulkhead was sealed. His body gives out and he leans on the control panel. With a bit more time to relax, he focused on trying to keep his breathing controlled. Not long after, he stands up on alert and his eyes fall on Cryopod 2703.
The Captain…
With a horrified look, he rushes to open it. A body falls forward and he grunts as he catches it. “Captain?” he doesn’t hear their breathing nor their heartbeat. Lying them down on the floor, he checks for any other sign that they were alive. They couldn’t be dead, they’re just unconscious, right?
His vision was fading in and out, he’s still dizzy from the events earlier. He rests his head on their chest, they would allow him a moment of indulgence after that near death scenario… They’d forgive him for falling asleep…
He woke up hyperventilating. Mark couldn’t hear the loud announcement of the computer over his own heart beat. What the hell is happening? Why is he here again? He must be dreaming, no, this must be a nightmare. Maybe he drank a bit too much before going to sleep but dreams can’t be this vivid… He gets shot out for the third time. There isn’t enough time to think. He was about to hold on the control panel again but this time, a hand reached out. Mark doesn’t question it and the windows promptly break again.
The emergency measures activated again and he looked up to see the Captain panicking. They shove him out of the way and the control panel gets caught on fire. Mark checked on them again and they had a fire extinguisher on hand, eyes looking towards the door as another announcement came up. He rushes towards Life Support and turned the cranks. When he came out of the room, the Captain greeted him with a hug and he happily returned it. “I have no clue what’s happening but I’m glad you’re okay” he relished their touch and sank himself further into the hug.
They continued fixing issues that came up, no time to wonder about the status of the other crew members, it’s a race against time and they could only rely on each other. As they approach the warp core another person shows up, threatening them at gunpoint. The Captain grabs Mark’s hand and pulls him along as they jump towards the wormhole. His eyes light up as he sees the door to the reactor core and swims towards it. Opening it up, he looks back and shouts “Captain! I found-”. “It?” Mark stands in the middle of a burning planet and he feels his body heat up hotter and hotter and ho-
Mark began to repeat this loop over and over. Each and every time he wakes up in that cryopod, the less he questions his reality and he slowly loses his sanity. More and more he feels his body aching, tired and wanting rest. In some realities he wakes up crying, in severe circumstances, puking. In others he just feels numb inside.
The only times he feels alive and grounded are the ones where the Captain is by his side. Seeing them smile after a job well done, sharing hugs and hi fives, maybe a pat on the head or back. All of these moments make him realize he’s not the only one suffering through this. Their eyes show how tired they are of having to repeat this disaster again and they aren’t giving up. If they aren’t then how could he give up and leave them to suffer all of this alone. They’ll get through this somehow.
These past few timelines the Captain seems more frustrated. They talked a lot more and barked orders left and right. Sometimes they would get aggressive and push Mark in or out of the way but he didn’t mind it at all. If it lessens the burden a bit, he’d gladly take the hit for them. If it means he’d get a medal and their praise then so be it. So long as they’re not hurt, he can give out a piece of his heart until there’s no more.
Mark has seen them break down a few times. Insane mutterings of the insanity of it all. Sobs that echoed the empty halls wondering what they did to deserve this torture. They’d curl up into a corner repeating that it wasn’t their fault until their throat got dry. In those moments, he’d sit next to them, a hand soothing theirs as he repeats “It’s going to be alright”. Empty words, they both know. Yet it helps the cries die down, and when they feel better, Mark would pull them in a hug. They’d curl up closer to him, their hands grabbing his arms tightly, as if they’re afraid he’d phase away. In less stressful moments like these, when he has time to gather his thoughts he wonders how he can still keep going through this madness.
He has lost track of the amount of times he’s gone through these loops. Even with a clear mind, his body has taken a toll. He can feel the tiredness all the way down to his bones. He hasn’t had a moment of respite in months is what his body is saying. Mark looks down at the Captain who has managed to fall asleep in his arms and it becomes clear.
He has devoted himself wholly to the Captain, even if those feelings aren’t returned. They became his anchor, his lifeline, that keeps him from drowning into the pits of despair. Seeing them gives him hope that they’ll make it out alive and they can go to that new planet and live the rest of their lifetime happy and free.
“I promise to get us out of this mess”
These spoken words were left unheard as the Captain lies still and another loop starts.
Rather than leaving all the decisions to the Captain, Mark began to be more proactive in helping them out. Day after day and loop after loop, he knows when and where each problem occurs and when each reset might happen. Next thing you know each loop gets longer. From a few hours to a few days, to a few weeks. The Captain gets less stressed and their visage is starting to look more lively as it happens. They smile a lot more and they can even talk with him in a relaxed manner. Even when loops do occur they can go on with the knowledge that they are close to figuring out the truth and get out of the wormhole.
Mark had been working on a device made from spare parts in the ship’s storage room for a few days now. He had almost finished it in the last loop but the Bandit stole it. Said device proceeded to blow up when she took it. This time to speed up the process, they found Burt early on so they can work on it asap and change things accordingly. The Captain was tasked to find and wake up the other colonists and take care of them while the two worked on the device.
The Captain came in, two mugs in hand and Gunther behind them holding out two plates with a full meal. Mark heard the door open and stood up from his work station. He stretched his body, with a few areas letting out an audible ‘pop’ and ‘crack’. Burt had finished his part a few hours earlier and left to help out Celci with reorienting the colonists.
“How’d you know I was hungry?” Mark took a mug and a plate happily. He raised the plate and said “Thank you” to Gunther while taking a sip. The Captain tapped Gunther on the shoulder to give them their plate and he handed it with little trouble. “You can call me up again if you need anythin’ else Captain. I gotta go check out our weaponry. See if they’re in good condition.” Gunther did a two finger salute as he left.
As the doors closed, Mark set down his plate and mug. Cleaning the table, he moved his plate of food again to make space for the Captain. Setting down their own food, the Captain grabs a chair and sits down facing Mark. He moves his chair a bit closer with half his body facing them. The two ate while talking, updating each other on their own individual progress. Mark was doing the most talking as always but the Captain did speak out a few words. The ship has stabilized and most of the colonists had woken up. The Captain looks happy. When they finished up their meal and drinks, Mark got up and grabbed something from the other side of the room.
When he came back, he looked excited. Mark took the other part that was on his work desk and as he put them together, the Captain realized it looked like a shotgun. “I call this bad boy the Hole Destroyer” the Captain gave him a disgusted look. “What? What’s wrong with calling this big boy the hole destroyer?” Mark looked confused. The Captain wanted to answer but thought it wasn’t worth the time. He does have an odd naming convention for things. “Anyways, I built this with the knowledge from the previous loops but changed a few things around so it wouldn’t explode in our faces” Mark got down to the nitty gritty and science behind the item. The Captain couldn’t really keep up but understood it as ‘when it shoots it pushes the ship out of the wormhole’.
“Want to take it out for a spin?”
This was it, he could feel it. This is going to be the last loop they would ever have to face. The Captain agreed for them to go near the warp core and finish the job. There was always the probability that it didn't work but they had faith in Mark. Mark had never let them down before.
Mark turned the switch on and the shotgun looking device came to life with a loud whirr. It had to be charged up since the energy it will expel would create a lot of force, the edges were lit up red. The Captain was on standby, hand raised near the door, ready to open on Mark’s signal. As soon as the lights on the device turned green Mark shouted “GO!”. The door opened right after and there was a strong wind that came out of the thing. The wormhole got smaller and smaller and they shut the door, lest the two die from the lack of oxygen. Mark was on the ground, the device knocked out of his hands and his mouth agape. He couldn’t believe it worked! The Captain jumped into his arms and thanked Mark over and over. They’re free from that damned wormhole. First order of business, to get the Captain off of him. His back hurts from the impact.
From then on the travel to a new planet was smooth sailing. They landed on one that was similar to Earth. One sun, one moon, and one planet. It looked like an empty solar system but it was their new home now. The greenery that greeted them was stunning. It was a treat to the eyes that got used to the metalwork of the Invincible. The natural light is welcomed. Mark and the Captain started going out not long after the success of the wormhole incident. The colonists greeted them with cheers. Celci is the only exception since she messed with Mark that entire day, even questioning the Captain if they had a loose screw in their head.
They managed to find a good work-life balance. Taking care of the colonists in building new homes, infrastructures, and the like while having time for each other. Mark would often drag them out to lie down on the grass as they looked up at the stars and talk hours on end about their pasts and what they missed out on in each other’s lives. Other times the Captain would bring Mark some handcrafted gift with a love letter tied to it. They were truly living the life, so much so that they almost forgot about their torture. Almost.
Sometimes the Captain would be out and Mark would get worried that someday they might never come back or that he’d wake up in that cryopod again. All alone in an empty ship in the vast universe. He would get antsy those nights and the Captain would be the one to hug him close and assure him that it was alright.
But that didn’t matter anymore. Because another morning comes and he sees them out once again, talking with the colonists with a happy smile as they tackle a new project. He can rest easy knowing that it’s over. That nightmare has ended and they are here building a new world together.
Mark woke up. It’s in an enclosed space and it’s so cold. It’s not the familiar warmth of their house and there isn’t a scent of trees or flowers anywhere. His nose feels clogged up and his eyes feel puffy. He’s staring at a screen in front of him.
ABSOLUTELY CATASTROPHIC
Ejected from the cryopod, his senses were dulled but he had enough wits about him to hold on to the control panel. As the hull does its emergency shutdown something inside Mark snaps. He looks up again to Cryopod 2703 and this scene feels so familiar. He’s horrified.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
He rushes over, praying in his head that his fears won’t come true. His body and mind are on autopilot. Opening the pod, a body falls on top of him and he’s crying. His heart shattered into bits. Awake once again in that forsaken ship that’s stuck inside that stupid wormhole. And the Captain… oh god, the Captain. What about his promise and the life they shared, was all of that a lie. It couldn’t be, he saw them under the sunlight, looking over the colony with a satisfied smile. That wonderful person turned to him and kissed him, thanking him and cherishing him. That happened, right... He’s just having a nightmare right?
The Captain’s body isn’t cold. The Captain is still breathing softly next to him. The Captain’s heart's still beating. The Captain is still alive. They’ve got to be alive. They have to be.
But Mark couldn’t believe his own lies. He’s back again and he knows this cycle will repeat itself but he doesn’t think he has the strength to carry on after they had already reached their happy end. He’s so tired and he can’t keep his eyes open for any longer. He’s still crying, and he’s clinging on to the Captain’s body so tightly.
When he wakes up again he won’t care for the Captain anymore. His only objective is to put an end to this loop, even if that means he has to go against them.
Kukuku~ It’s not noticeable but if you look at the first letter of each sentence in the first paragraph, you’ll get “I LOVE YOU”. The idea for this one is based off of a popular fan theory in the Mystic Messenger fandom. Those that are part of it know the one. I rushed to finish this before Part 2 comes out because I fear Mark ruining my chances of a cute version of the ship. Maybe I should focus on the uwu puppy Mark next time... hah.
Extra: I once again planned this to be short but here we are! I should just stop hoping for my writing to be short. It’s never under 1k words.
Unused lines:
“Captain!” He turns around and is greeted with a dead look. “Captain?”- context: Based off of the spooky hall thing but in Mark’s perspective the Captain is just staring at him with a cold blank look. Never used it because the story didn’t go that horror route.
“Let’s get married in a space station” - context: This is what the original line was for the cute moment at the start. It was another nudge nudge wink wink to Mystic Messenger.
This was written prior to ISWM’s release. Based off of the 5th (or was it 6th) glitch. You’ll know the line when you read it.

“To die, to sleep –
To sleep, perchance to dream – ay, there’s the rub,
For in this sleep of death what dreams may come…”
It was rowdy in the dining hall of the Invincible as usual. Mark was up on stage entertaining the crew members like always. I was sitting a few tables away as he gallantly continued reciting Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
Ever since he got on board about a full moon ago, his presence has been nothing short of dominating. That day, the systems of the Invincible were on an emergency shut down so we had to do quick repairs to get everything booted up. Two guys down by the airlocks arrived with a man in a space suit, his helmet removed, passed out. They had a panicked look as their eyes went back and forth between the body and me. I was at the cockpit at the time with a few of the crew mates looking around nervously. I had to calm them down before making the two follow me to one of the empty rooms.
They lie him down on the bed and told the story. As soon as the backup generators went up apparently they heard a huge thunk sound outside one of the airlocks and found him floating out there. They raised their concerns but I shrugged it off and let them leave. After apologizing for the commotion, they left. The power started back up and not a second later, the stranger’s eyes opened.
From the first look we shared, I could feel that he had an unignorable air around him. He managed to butter up the others very quickly and became another leader in the ship. It was odd how fast he managed to do it but I didn’t mind the extra assistance. Next thing I know he sort of became my unofficial co-captain. He might take the crown for weirdest mate just for that feat he managed to pull off.
“Cap’n, you haven’t finished your meal yet” crew member P1121, Tyler Scheid, mused before going back to his meal. My plate was relatively empty, the only thing remaining was the energy bar that I planned to save up to eat later. Pocketing it, I pushed the tray away and propped an elbow up “What a weirdo”.
He finished up today’s act and was talking and eating with the engineers. He sat by a big fella that liked to go by Muyskerm. Mark seemed to be enjoying his time, laughing jovially and being a bit too touchy with the crew. Patting their backs, clinking drink glasses, something about it feels odd and I don’t know how to explain it.
Letting out a huff, I look over to my side to see Tyler with that knowing smile on his face. “Don’t you fucking dare”. He raised both his arms up and had that accusing tone “I didn’t say that you looked jealous so don’t come after me”. The lines at the end of his eyes betrayed the rest of his face and I just knew he was having fun.
“Look, just because he’s so buddy-buddy with the others doesn’t mean I’m jealous” I said with a pout. I look away from him and set my sights back on Mark. “I feel worried for some reason and it’s hard to describe”. I hear Tyler put his arms down “Then maybe talk to him for once. You’ve never spoken a word to him before”. “Yeah… maybe” he glances over at our table and I avert my eyes by hiding it behind my hand and looking at the table. “He’s smiling” Ty sounded like he was suppressing a laugh. Seriously, that entertainer is so weird.
We went to our usual posts after and forgot about our conversation. I didn’t have to confront him nor did he try to close our gap. We remained cordial whenever we had to be in the same room with the other crew members but if we passed each other by the hall we’d go in opposite directions. Even if it was a very counterintuitive decision.
The day was going slowly as I tried to help out the engineers build a new contraption of sorts. They say it was a stage prop for Mark after he asked them for a favor but did uh… this thing have to be human sized?
While everyone else was busy actually building it, I would just give them tools or snacks. One of the other mates then asked if I could bring them an extra box of gears and screws. It is part of my job to help out our crew so I didn’t mind. I walked down the halls, my boots making a hard thumping sound as it made contact with the metal floors.
The keys and cuffs on my belt are making jingling sounds as I pass by the long hallway.
I should’ve known it was a trap because once I entered the storage room I could hear a loud familiar voice going “OW!”. Mark was on the floor with a box filled with clothing supplies beside him scattered about. He hasn’t noticed my presence yet as he was cursing the pile. I turned and tried to access the door but as I pressed the button a voice talked over the intercom.
ACCESS DENIED
From the other side I could hear Tyler’s muffled voice shouting “sorry”. The rest was incomprehensible but I could make out him saying “talk it out”. I may love all my crew members but this is one of those times where I’m tempted to resort to my fists.
With the way Tyler reacted, this means we won’t get out until we resolve this unspoken tension between us. “So uhh, I guess we’re stuck together?” Mark is still on the floor but in a more relaxed position this time. I glared at him seeing as he still hasn’t fixed up his mess.
I walk past him towards the storage racks, almost stepping his hand on purpose, to finish my objective. “Now where could that box be…” I mutter. I could hear him fumbling from behind, probably trying to clean up his mess. “I know we’ve never really talked, Captain, but I really think your ship is so cool. Having to take care of so many colonists, making sure everything is in good condition and on course? Your leadership skills shouldn’t be taken lightly.”. I let out a huff, there’s that kiss ass personality I’ve heard in passing. The compliments are really nice but what is up with him. It doesn’t sound sincere at all.
Ah, found it!
As I was about to take it, I saw a hand reach out to the same box from my peripherals. Holding the side of the box with both hands, I turned my head to reprimand him but as I was about to open my mouth, his face was an inch away from mine. I swiftly looked down on the floor feeling a blush form on my face.
That’s when I noticed his presence leaning towards the right side. He wasn’t directly behind me but close to it. He was breathing normally but his aura was feeling awkward in this position. I could see his feet shuffling in the corner of my eye. There’s a pressure on my right shoulder and I can’t believe I didn’t realize his left hand was resting on it this entire time. Shit.
My head is a mess, physical contact is something I’m not used to and I feel like I’m frozen in my spot. Should I tell him off? Maybe it’s best if I don’t say anything at all? Or why the hell does it somehow not feel that bad?
Mark’s thumb brushes over my hands on the box and I finally look up. He takes the heavy box while letting out an “oomph”. We’re slightly further apart now and noticing that I was looking at him, he gave an awkward yet goofy looking smile. “It looked like you needed the help Captain” he set it down on a nearby table and dusted his hands after.
“I heard from the rest of the crew that you built this baby from the ground up” he started. Turning around and leaning on the rack I raised my eyebrow at him. “You’re incredibly smart and talented for that. I’m just a lowly engineer and entertainer, an outsider that you welcomed in warmly” he fidgeted with his hands. “Maybe not warmly but you didn’t send me out the airlock instantly” a hand goes to rub the back of his neck. “I’m really thankful for that” his body relaxes. “I’ll follow you to the ends of the universe, Captain” the intensity in his eyes as we made contact made me hold my breath. It was shining and full of sincerity, it felt unearned and I wonder why I distrusted him in the first place.
As he was about to leave the table, I quickly reached out to grab his hand. To thank his sincerity is the least I could do. “I’m flattered but could you let go of my hand?” the change in his voice and expression as I wanted to reply to him surprised me. For someone who was just talking about his devotion not more than a few seconds ago, the iciness of his words was just shocking. This incredibly handsy man dropped the honorifics and is now looking at me confused. Why is he looking confused? I should be confused in this situation! If earlier he moved my heart, all I feel right now is rebellion. I gripped Mark harder and looked him in the eye.
“No”
I took the handcuffs out of my belt and cuffed us together. If he wants for me to let go after that then tough luck. He has to listen to me and I say “pick up that box, we still have jobs to do”. With no choice, he grumbled under his breath while getting the box filled with cloth.
I can’t believe I got caught up by his charms. Stupid, stupid. I was so right about him being a weirdo! He definitely wants something. I should seriously ask Muyskerm if they could send him out the airlock later. I… I can’t believe I was about to open up to him.
He pulled on the cuffs and I looked at him. Mark was pouting. POUTING! Like a dog abandoned by their owner. Covering my mouth, I looked away from him. Irresistible and captivating, if I looked at him again I might just go back on my rash (and childish) decision.
I grabbed my own box and dragged him towards the door. Mark followed quietly but still had that overbearing puppy-like energy radiating off of him. With how he’s acting, his cold words earlier don't even feel like they happened at all. It makes me second guess myself.
Reaching the door I shout out “Tyler, Mark and I managed to sort things out. Can you please let us out?”. “I need to hear Mark! You might’ve knocked him out!” I rolled my eyes but a certain someone beside me was more than happy to answer. “The Captain and I are alright! They’re really inspiring and bold, kind and courageous-” he got cut off by the door opening. Tyler had a disgusted look on his face as if he couldn’t handle the onslaught of compliments. Tyler looked at the handcuffs then to me and I gave him a tired smile. ‘What the hell did you do to him in there?’ his eyes seemed to ask. I thanked Tyler for opening the door and whispered in his ear that he’ll pay for locking us in as we left. Not even bothering to answer his unspoken question.
Mark and I managed to get back to the engineers with no problems. We still had the cuffs on but his presence there was greatly appreciated by the crew. As the designer for the prop I could watch him interact with the others very closely. He was incredibly animated and eloquent but still had that goofy charm as he told them what the thing was for.
The crew didn’t want to hold us up after a few of them noticed that there was another box with us. Even the way Mark exited the conversation was smooth. They all happily smiled and waved us goodbye as we left them to their own devices. And in that long narrow hallway, Mark looked like he was enjoying himself, talking with me about the production he’s planning as he’s carrying his own box. Not once even asking about the handcuffs. It made me feel a little guilty.
We dropped by one of the common rooms and saw a group knitting and sewing while talking amongst themselves. Upon seeing Mark, some of them stopped by to wave as we got closer. Once again I was next to him, quietly listening in on everyone. He sounded much nicer and more relaxed this time as he carried on the conversation. It felt homey.
Next thing I know I felt someone’s hand on my head jump out of my seat. I bumped my head on something and recoiled. That was hard. Rubbing my forehead, I heard a hissing sound and looked up to Mark trying not to cry while holding his chin “Warn me next time when you’re waking up Captain”. I cupped his face with both hands and looked at the area, it didn’t seem to be wounded but the impact probably hurt a lot. “S’ry” my words slurred as my mind was still waking up. “Your forehead’s red, Captain” his hand brushed over the area and rubbed it to emphasize his point. Now it was my turn to hiss when he pressed the part a little harder. I placed my hands on my forehead but Mark didn’t remove his hand so I ended up making contact with his own. They were much colder than I thought but I didn’t want to dwell on it.
I finally felt awake and looked around. There’s less people in the common room now, the group Mark was talking to most likely left while I was asleep. The lights were turned to a lower setting and you could hear the whirring of the engines. It was quiet and the mood felt more intimate all of a sudden.
Mark didn’t seem to be in any rush to leave or to start a conversation so I was left to think in silence. He always struck me as an odd person, it was the main reason I avoided him despite allowing the man to stay on the Invincible. But after his confession in the storage room, and seeing how eager he is to help everyone on board, I realize that maybe that fear is unfounded. Still I want to ask–
“Did you really mean all the things you said in the storage room?”
Mark looked over a bit puzzled and then his eyes widened “Oh! That!”. His expression settled into an easygoing smile “Of course I did, Captain”. “You motivate me to work harder for the colonists and to become a better crewmate for all that you’ve done” his hands moved about while he continued his speech. It wasn’t until that moment that I remembered that we were still handcuffed together. I slept on this man’s lap, made him sit here for hours all the while feeling the uncomfortable cold shackle around his hand.
I interrupted his rave by unlocking the restraints with a key that I took out of my pocket. He stopped mid sentence and looked at his now free reddish wrist. “I forgot why I did that but hopefully you forgive me for it” I managed to speak out, feeling embarrassed. Mark gave me a tight hug and replied “It was no trouble at all Captain”. I didn’t reciprocate it immediately but his touch felt nice. I didn’t freeze up like I normally would and his hug felt soothing. I relaxed into it and hugged him back. Letting out a quiet hum, we stayed like that for a few seconds longer.
We walked the narrow halls of the Invincible to our own rooms, passing by a few of the crew on the way. They would share knowing looks and Tyler came into view. He had that knowing look on his face but I’m walking back with my co-captain right now. I’ll deal with him later.
“You can still hold my hand if you want” Mark stated. I took him up his offer.
A/N: Somehow I turned the box grabbing into a kabedon scene, sort of. Not in the original idea but I guess that’s what we’ll go with. Don’t know how it came across but Mark’s presence is an anomaly since the engines shut down when he was found and went back up when he woke up.
Tagging as acting attorney for simplicity’s sake. It is Mark x Y/N at the end of the day. Whether they are Actor or the DA is up for debate.
I’m not sure myself if Mark is sincere or not during this whole thing nor do I want to figure it out. I guess it’s all up to you guys. Two things that I am most certain about is he successfully made you forget that he was cold that one moment, and made you tolerate his love language.
Set prior to university. Cars are referred to as automobiles/autos here. Thanks.

A letter arrives in the mailbox of a residential home early Saturday morning. A young postman arrives, ready to insert the mail when an excited young lady, waiting by the stairs of the front porch, bounces up and grabs it out of their hand. Offended and surprised, the person looks up and takes back the letter “Ms. (Y/N) of the Morgan Residence?”. Eyes wide, she covers her mouth with both hands and mutters a quick apology. “Sorry, and yes, that is my name”. Behind her hands, her smile begins to grow again and the constant light tapping of her foot fails to hide her emotion. They looked her up and down quizzically.
“That was very rude of you, Miss. But uh, it's convenient you’re out here. The lads back at the post office said there was an extra package for you that they couldn’t bring. You’d have to drop by. It’s from uh, England? From Mr. Morgan.” he hands her the mail.
“Thank you for the letter and relaying the message, Sir?”
“Jaime”
“Jaime, sorry for taking up your time. I’ve been antsy all morning, you see-”
Realizing the lady in front of her was ready to go a tangent, if the glint in her eye was anything to go by, he picked up his bicycle from the sidewalk and awkwardly tried to get on while trying to maintain eye contact. Out of courtesy. “It’s really no problem, Miss. Hopefully the contents will give you the results you wanted.” Tipping his hat, he bids her a good day and leaves. “Ah, I got over excited” she held the letter in one while biting her index with the other. “You too!” she shouts and waves goodbye to the postman, not really comprehending how her reply didn’t make sense nor could the person it was directed to, hear it.
Going back inside the house in a rush, the door slams with a loud thud. It made me jump but my eyes immediately wandered back to the letter. Written in newly dried ink is my full name. Beneath it is the university’s name. It really is a letter from my college application. I wasn’t lying earlier to the postman when I said I’d been antsy waiting all day. It’s just the excitement overruled my fear but now... I’m feeling light-headed. This is my only chance to prove my worth. Please let me make it in.
Her head falls back to the hardwood of the door. Her eyes closed, as if praying in her mind. Her heart is beating fast. Clutching the letter as if it’s her lifeline. Letting out a deep breath, she takes one last look and rips it open.
“Greetings and salutations to all our applicants. If this letter finds you in good health, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to-”
She read the rest of the letter hastily and you could hear the joy in her voice the longer it went. By the end she mutters in disbelief “I got accepted”. With a bit more confidence “I got accepted”. “I GOT ACCEPTED!” She dances around the empty hallway with glee and falls on the couch. She hugs a pillow with one hand, and the other dangling on the edge of the couch with the letter. Bringing up the hand without the note to her forehead she shakily mumbles “Thank the Gods”.
Sitting up properly, she dusted off her clothes and gave herself a light slap on both cheeks.
“I’m going to celebrate tonight”
And (Y/N) went about her day as always, the only thing that changed was she dropped by the post office for the package delivery. Apparently their carrier called in sick so everyone had to manually pick it up for the day. It’s a good thing she is amicable with a lot of people. It’s a skill she needs to develop if she wants to become an attorney after all. As she was about to leave, Jaime had just arrived after doing his first round of deliveries. He awkwardly bowed with his hat and left after being called by one of the other employees. Shy but nice. Maybe he’ll become a useful ally in the future.
The package was from her guardian. It had her monthly allowance, a couple of practical items, a dress, and a note.
“While I am of the mind that unmarried women should be dressed demure, my lovely wife wanted to send you this dress so you could experience the flaming passion of youth. It’s been years since we last met but we do hope it is to your likeness. Warm regards”.
She took it out of the package and held it up over her frame. Turning around from her bedside to the full body mirror, it was a loose black dress that ended under her knees. It shimmered a bit in the light and it reminded her of the dresses that the ladies wore to the bar. It’s funny how the perfect outfit arrived in time. As if her guardian knew that she’d be getting an acceptance letter today. Wishful thinking but it is an entertaining thought. Now that she has a dress prepared, and with the sun setting down, it’s time for her to get ready to celebrate tonight in her favorite bar.
Damien and Celine were both greeting the guests that arrived at their parents’ party for the rich and elite, celebrating the business’ successful opening overseas. The night had just started but they’re already tired from smiling towards people that arrived with greedy and selfish intentions. Anytime Damien’s smile faltered, Celine would step on his dress shoes. Whenever Celine would slowly zone out, Damien would discreetly poke her sides. They’d rather be anywhere else than near their parents but formal gatherings like tonight are inevitable. They can deal with being in their presence for a few hours. When the last of the guests had arrived, they could finally take a break and sit at the “kids” table. Celine gagged that they were still called as such despite being young adults already.
The only saving grace they had at this convention of self-absorbed capitalists telling each other empty praises was Mark’s presence. The young actor with big ambitions is casually leaning back on the chair. His grin widened when the twins appeared. “Finally! sensible people!” He stood up and gave Celine a kiss on the cheek. She rolled her eyes at the comment “and another person whom I actually like in this stuffy room”. Cupping Mark’s cheeks, she plants a kiss on both sides. Damien took a seat, a chair away from his sister to leave the two some personal space. “At least we aren’t the center of attention this time” he remarked. “Please, I was tempted to stab a few men that were ogling me on our birthday” Celine spitefully said, recalling the day. “It made for a fun rendezvous after, wouldn’t you agree dear?” Mark hugged her and rested his head on her shoulder.
Now Damien is a patient person, he could deal with how lovey dovey they are most of the time but without William, it was awkward to be the third wheel. Speaking of…
“Is William not arriving today?”
“Willy’s family is too brutish and boorish to be invited apparently” Mark replied, finally sitting down. “That’s a shame. He would’ve livened up the place” Celine sat down. The gang already miss William’s antics. Sure would be nice if any one of them had the guts to topple the champagne glass tower to offset the stiff atmosphere. Unfortunately, they all had appearances to keep up in this social gathering, even if they’re not the main focus.
Dinner is served and the night passes by. As everyone is chattering and laughing away, Damien couldn’t help but dissociate from the party. Even now as he is surrounded by his peers.
He feels empty.
Damien scans the entire floor. His parents chatting with their business partners, the staff moving about with some in the corner speaking in hushed whispers, the people at the buffet table taking seconds, and he feels out of place. He looks out one of the many floor to ceiling windows and sees the new moon. Maybe the celestial object could understand his feelings tonight.
Tonight the music is blasting loudly in the cabaret bar, the ladies are dancing their worries away and everyone is here to be entertained. The loud and jubilant music accompanied by the chattering of the customers, those who came alone to destress, and those who are accompanied by friends, family, or lovers to have a grand ol’ night. Our dear attorney-to-be was in the dressing room hanging out with the cabarets while the burlesques are preparing for their performance. Easy-going and genuine smiles could be seen around the room as they’re making small talk.
She had already filled them in on the exciting news earlier and the girls had cheered for her. The older ones acted like her moms giving proud looks and speeches while those closer to her age bounced about and gave long warmth filled hugs. Now she isn’t a social butterfly by all means, but (Y/N) understood the importance of a support group. These dancers became her family in place of her absentee guardians. While they gave her the necessities to survive, they lacked the emotional connection that is necessary for her personal development. These group of talented women became her friends and family and she could always go to them for advice or announcements such as these.
As it was the burlesque’s turn to perform, the cabarets that had gone out took a break, and the group that surrounded (Y/N) left to help the others rest or prepare for their own show. One of the ladies on a break then approached her with a mixed cocktail in one hand and a beer bottle in another. She handed (Y/N) the cocktail and ushered her out in the main floor to have fun. The whole reason she came here is to party and let loose after all. Downing the drink in one go she headed to the dance floor.
The rain was pouring down heavily by the time the party had ended. Some guests had to be carried by the valets or life-long partners to their automobiles. The twins' parents are talking with the remaining ones as they stand outside, waiting for their own auto to arrive. Damien and Celine lived in a house independently from their parents. It’s for their safety, they’d explain. Celine had her umbrella open, slowly twirling with it to kill her boredom. Damien had the umbrella on his side, leaning a bit into it. Any words that they wanted to share with each other would be said at the comfort of their shared living space. They won’t take any risk where there are eyes on them.
From the corner of Celine’s eye, she catches Mark’s family about to leave and their eyes make contact. Mark’s face which had been in a neutral position now held a mischievous smile, he mouthed ‘come with me’. Celine at the prospect of sneaking away with her lover had her eyes light up. To get Damien’s attention, she tilted the umbrella and tipped it to make contact with his head.

Pulled out of his thoughts, Damien looks over to his sister and catches the look that says ‘Don’t tell anyone I’m gone’. He sighs resignedly. Mark comes up to the two, and offers his hand to Celine “Shall we?”. She closes her umbrella, and passes it to Damien and chirps “Thanks lil brother”. With no choice, he takes the umbrella and watches the couple leave with a chauffeur behind them, making sure they arrive at the auto without a drop on their head. As the Fischbach family leaves the premises, the twins' driver arrives. The chauffeur notices that their lady is once again absent and doesn’t comment on it. It’s part of their routine now. Making sure their master is safe, they drive off into the foggy and rainy night.
The pitter patter of the rain is calming to Damien. It almost lulls him to sleep. Even if the night wasn’t physically tiring by any means, he finds it too much, the legacy that he has to live up to. Being in the same space as all those influential people tire him out. Stories and accounts of people saying that their family is blessed to have talented and beautiful kids. Socially skilled twins with high intellect. A graceful daughter, a kind son. They’d make for fine leaders. The endless praise is overwhelming. Then there’s the ugly side, the envious and hateful stares that hide under the surface... In the murky depths where it feels like one wrong move and they’ll drown him. This uncomfortable itchy feeling that won’t go away. He hates it.
White noise. The rain’s comfortable constant sound makes him unwind. He breathes in and out slowly. The umbrella that lies beside him is now in his hands. He’s playing with the handle. Tapping on it in a constant beat like a metronome scale. He wouldn’t mind relaxing like this for a bit longer. As he shuts his eyes, the driver toots the horn so suddenly, jolting him awake. In front of them was a lady dancing in the rain without a care in the world. She didn’t even stop or walk out of the way after almost getting run over. The chauffeur was about to get out but Damien stopped them.
She looked so inebriated and didn’t even look like she had any belongings on her person. Damien asked the driver to give him the extra umbrella, and he got out, with one umbrella being used to cover himself from the harsh downpour, and the other to give to this strange lady. “Excuse me miss but may you please step off the road?” He’s having trouble verbalizing to this intoxicated woman. Did she even hear what he said? Did he come off as too rude? Should he rephrase it? “May I?” her eyes looks a little less clouded as she was interrupted.
“Maybe if you dance with me”
She gave him no room to answer and held onto Damien’s hand and led him to a waltz. With the sudden contact, both umbrellas fell off his hands. Now he’s cold, wet, and flustered. From the random excited moves, splashes, and turns she did earlier, now her movements are much more controlled and practiced. As if she’d committed the steps into her memory. It’s a bit sloppy, her left arm closer to his neck than the shoulder, her tempo a beat too fast, but in her drunken stupor, it’s as graceful as it could be. Box step. They were doing the classic box step.
One, two, three. One, two, three.
Somehow he lets himself be guided by a complete stranger in the middle of the night.
One, two, three. One, two, three.
Dancing in the rain
One, two, three. One, two, three.
With low visibility
One, two, three. One, two, three.
On a quiet road
It’s an odd experience, to say the least. His custom tailored suit is soaked, his feet are wet, his breath coming out in small puffs of clouds, eyes blinking away raindrops that fall near. Yet he can’t say he hates it. The girl holding him slows down, eyes closing and resting her head on his shoulder. Humming what sounded like Johann Strauss’ The Blue Danube Waltz. From a waltz, the dance slows down into a simple sway.
If you were to ask any passerby, they’d assume they were moony lovers. No one would ever guess that they were strangers.
Now that the dance is almost at a halt, Damien could take a proper look at the drunk woman. There was no moonlight that could shine down and give her that ethereal luminescent glow that romance stories tend to have. To make him feel like he’s looking at a Goddess, or to make him feel like he’s falling in love. All that existed is the low warm flickering of the light post giving her a much more human glow. It makes the moment feel so grounded and real, and he’s actually dancing with a stranger. And he hopes she can’t hear his heart beating faster. He isn’t dreaming. There’s a pretty lady who is not in her right mind and she needs to get home.
Damien stops their dancing and snaps out of it. Finally remembering why he came out in the first place. Holding her up, he motions over to the driver to grab the umbrellas. As the chauffeur opens both, Damien lowers the two of them to the ground and gives the lady a piggyback ride. Nearing the auto, the chauffeur tries to open the door but Damien shakes his head. He doesn’t want her to wake up confused and scared of being taken away. He motions to the front porch ahead of them and they set her down on the stairs. Damien sits next to the sleeping lady and asks the chauffeur to hand over an umbrella. Afterwards, the driver goes back to the auto and waits.
The rain isn’t pouring as hard anymore as when he first met the lady. The skies start to clear up. Signaling that it was almost over. The woman next to him starts to wake. Rubbing her eyes, she lets out a yawn and a burp which makes her surprised. Feeling a person’s presence on her left, she jumps but doesn’t let out a sound. Looking like a deer caught in headlights, Damien waved and explained himself. “Sorry for startling you, miss. We found you dancing in the middle of the road.” he then extended his arms out to the road with the auto parked near a light post. “And we didn’t know where you lived or if anyone nearby knew you, so we settled to let you rest here until you were sober enough to go home.” he finished.
(Y/N) felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment for being caught doing something indecent. Putting her hands over her cheeks she replies “I’m sorry, good sir, for making you witness such indecency and wasting your time. I have no way of repaying you right now but thanks… for.. taking care of a stranger.”. Damien gives her a soothing smile. Glancing down at her wet clothes, she takes a look around to gather her current position. Standing up, she leans on the hand rails. “My place is only a few houses down this road” she starts. “My feet feel numb right now. Must’ve partied too hard” she rubs her arms up and down and avoids eye contact. “If it’s not too much of a bother, could I lean on you for support?” she looks back up at Damien and the moment their eyes meet, she averts. A light blush on her cheeks, highlighted by the low warm light of the light post.
Damien takes off his wet suit jacket, squeezes some of the water out, and drapes it over her shoulder. Afterwards, he picks up the discarded umbrella with his left hand. With a charming yet mischievous smile, he extends his right arm “Maybe if you dance with me?”. She’s not sure why the wording makes her face heat up, but she takes his arm and clings on to it. The driver comes out and Damien instructs him to follow them closely, keeping the headlights on. He asks her if it was okay and she nods in response. And so the duo, with the driver slowly driving behind them, move forth.
It wasn’t more than a minute since they began their stroll when she spoke up. “I didn’t do anything else, did I?” she shyly asked. A voice in her head was telling her that there was something more to it he didn’t say. Damien answers honestly “We danced together but you didn’t break any law whilst intoxicated if that’s what you’re asking.”. She hums in acknowledgement, her left hand gripping his arm tighter. If she was trying to mask her embarrassment, this did little to hide it. Still, it didn’t seem that she wanted the conversation to end, if the way she opens her mouth and getting stuck on a word was anything to go by. So Damien starts.
“I don’t mean to pry but how much did you drink for the night?”
“I am actually lightweight. It only took one cocktail before I got knocked out.”
“That makes two of us.”
“That means we could be really bad drinking buddies. For the record, my friends didn’t leave me or anything. The place was near my home and I always managed to get back in one piece. And I uh, don’t go around dancing with people randomly! I was just super excited because I passed my uni exam and… I spoke too much. Right. Sorry.”
“It’s alright. I liked listening. Your cheerful attitude makes for great company.”
They both smiled and ended the conversation. A comfortable silent atmosphere falls between them. With every step they take, they can hear small splashing sounds on the pavement. The new moon overhead, the crickets noise, and the hum of the car’s engine made for a relaxing walk.
“And your calm attitude makes it so easy to trust you.”
“Huh?”
“I’m not sure why but it feels like I could trust you. Maybe I’m still drunk or something but you’re the kindest stranger I’ve ever met. I’ve been warned to never go with unknown people and I don’t know. It’s hard to describe but I feel safe. Maybe I shouldn’t put this much faith in you but my feelings have never led me astray.”
“If it makes you feel better, my name’s Damien. I hope I can be a person worthy of your high praise.”
They didn’t have enough time to dwell on the matter as (Y/N) lets go of Damien “We’re here”. Giving back the suit jacket to Damien, she gets closer to the two floor residential house, and takes out one of her 2 inch pumps. Inside the insole was the key and she unlocked the door. Turning back around, she sees Damien standing there, both hands now clutching the umbrella. He looks up at her and back down at the item.
“You can have the umbrella”
“Oh no. You’ve already done plenty to help me tonight.”
“No, I insist. In case you’re ever caught out in the rain again.”
She takes it from his hands and gives a small smile. “Thank you, Damien” he felt his stomach flip when she said his name. He bowed and was about to leave when he heard “It’s (Y/N), my name”. She doesn’t add any more and closes the door.
He leaves with a smile. It’s certainly a name, and a memory he won’t forget.
I don’t know why but I love writing filler much to plenty of readers' annoyance. I have 0 clue what I’m doing. Just wanted to contribute to this lovely ship and make an excuse to write in like uhh… old-timey way?? I suppose... It was just supposed to be the main scene in the rain but I had to start from the beginning like an over-explainer. This was supposed to be a drabble, not a short story. Listened to rainy jazz while writing.
Also it’s been years since I wrote anything to completion so I’m proud I actually finished something. I hope you liked it.
To note: Even if people love their Marc for Actor’s first name spelling or Iplier for the last name, canonically it’s Mark Fischbach. Kind of like how Abe’s last name is Lincoln. The twins don’t have last names so I tried working around that. Y/N is a lightweight because in WKM we just took one shot and got fucking knocked out after that one. In my head the setting was around 1920-1922.
