I follow you because im a Black, mentally ill teen and I feel like your posts give me more ways to articulate to others how im seeing psychiatry as a treatment from my perspective. I try to tell people im not comfortable with it but they see it as a necessity, and it’s like all my autonomy stopped mattering at all with those issues. My parents might consider not taking me to therapies and such, but if they did, they could risk me getting taken by cps because it’s “neglectful” of them to not take me because of my mental state, even though they’re great parents. For my white peers in my area, this is significantly less of a concern.

i see the same playbook of Cop Bullshit being used by these therapists and then I just be expected to just deal with it without questioning anything. Your blog makes me feel like im not alone. I really love your posts and I hope you have a good day !!

Yeah I think many white people completely disregard how much more dangerous engaging with these systems are for people of color and how the intersection of racism and ableism and antiblackness means that a white person interacting with psychiatry and a black person interacting with psychiatry are going to face very different risks even if none of us are guaranteed to be safe.

IBM XT 5160 + 5161 Expansion unit

the 5161 Expansion Unit was a wild idea that only the original IBM PC used. See, the IBM PC had only 5 expansion slots, which sounds like a lot, except you've got to use at least one of them on the video card, and another on the floppy drive

add a hard drive, a printer, some more RAM, and now you need a mouse or modem? TOO BAD, IT'S FULL.

The XT which came out in '83 increased it to 8 slots, but until then they solved the problem by selling the 5161 Expansion Unit. It's a box the same size as the original PC (which is Not Small!) which has eight slots, and you use two communication cards with a big-ass cable to connect the two. So you go from 5 slots to 13 slots (and you can use 11 of them).

It's like a thunderbolt dock but for a desktop PC. It's just weird!
