I think that we should be worried about Kaneki, not Eto.
Let’s face it… there’s no possible way that Eto’s dead.
(1) Yes, her body was cut in half but her vital organs are all intact. Her brain, heart and kakuhou are all perfectly fine. Plus, the “cutting-in-half“ thing has already been discussed before in TG during the Kaneki vs. Ayato fight. And as Ishida himself said, “you can still live without the bottom half of your body.“ She’ll just need to regenerate her legs later.
(2) Eto is the main antagonist of the story. She’s the reason for so many important plot points and I doubt that Ishida’s simply gonna kill her to show us how OP Kaneki is.
(3) Also, we’ve seen much weaker characters survive similar injuries ‒ Noro survived getting cut in half, Kanae survived getting his head cut off, Rize survived the steel beam accident, etc. Plus, it was said that Eto herself survived a lethal damage to her kakuhou ten years before the beginning of TG when she fought Iwao Kuroiwa.
However, I think that Kaneki is in a VERY bad situation right now:
(1) It’s more than obvious that Eto has some big plans for Kaneki.
She sent Seidou to fight against Kaneki (probably to test his power against someone as powerful as Seidou).
Then, she tortured Kanae for the sole purpose of making him stronger in order to beat Kaneki (she probably once again did this in order to test Kaneki’s power).
She came herself to watch the showdown between Kaneki/Shuu/Kanae and said that she was interested in seeing who of them would survive.
She wondered who was stronger between Kaneki and Arima.
And, on top of everything, she looked extremely happy upon seeing Kaneki’s “awakening“.
(Just look at her, she looks like she’s having the time of her life.)
(2) We’ve seen Eto fighting opponents much stronger than Kaneki ‒ Arima and a lot of other powerful investigators ‒ and none of them ever succeeded in killing her. So losing to Kaneki is probably a part of her plans for him.
(3) I think that her plan all along was to make Kaneki remember and then to make him consume her kakuja… which raises another question. Why would Eto want Kaneki to eat her kakuja?
There are a lot of possibilities but there’s this interesting theory according to which Eto plans to make Kaneki play the role of the One-Eyed King. Additionally, the new chapter is titled “Two Kings“.
During The Raid on Kanou’s Lab arc, she called Kaneki “The Kakuja’s Egg“. So she probably wants him to… become a full kakuja? Plus, in this chapter, she says something about him becoming her kid which fits perfectly because in a way… Kaneki’s full kakuja form would be born after eating Eto’s one ‒ so she’s the mother and he’s her “egg”?? PLUS, Ishida posted a really interesting drawing a few days ago.
(4) And also… what the f*ck is Kaneki going to do now?
He can’t leave the CCG because they’ll eventually hunt him down. They pretty much know everything about him. Also, if he leaves, it’s all over for Hinami.
He can’t stay in the CCG because Ui probably already knows something’s up. I mean, Kaneki would have to kill Ui if he plans on pretending that he’s still Sasaki because I can’t imagine Ui staying quiet about it.
