the problem more than anything is it's just not that clean in execution, there is no two-man show of duo alters like jekyll and hyde, it's always much more messy and disjointed than that in execution with overlaps and mix-ups and it's more about the dizziness and loss of time than even the distinction between one or more identities.
there is no "split" that happens, it's a train that never had the chance to form one track to ride on, just because one alter does something doesn't mean that another won't just do the same to fall into whatever you set the norm to be. it's why the disorder can't exist without a form of trauma in childhood.
mikoto ironically is the most squeaky clean cut and paste interpretation of a dissociative disorder you could create, it's sanitized beyond the point of even being DID anymore, so why even call it that? he could have simply been played off as a spree killer snapping under stress induced psychosis, it didn't need to be a dissociative disorder if it was going to be so poorly executed.
i liked requiem lots, i don't think it merits harassment towards arrogant writers, but i just feel i'll never live to see any well handled portrayal of DID in my lifetime, which makes me rather sad.
you can have a girl eating rats and feeding them to her partner, but you can't showcase the most mentally exhausting, dizzying messy thing to be so? that has to be clean cut and neatly packaged?
the idea of DID has been so bloated by wannabe chuunibyou fantasists who believe they're a sexy anime "psycho" guy who has a "dark side" in media, from fight club, to moon knight, to split, or danganronpa, or even milgram, it's all absolute garbage.
i will still love mikoto forever though, for how trial 1 with it's looser writing felt, i think if it had stayed vague it would have been for the best.
In T3, we had the symbolism in each MV, like
Yuno following herself around in worry and guilt about what's to come
Fuuta playing out his shallow justice as some sort of ninja
Muu accepts her role as the guilty queen to be buried under another hourglass for Haruka's sake
Kazui trapped in his own maze of lies
Amane's toy factory representing her childish mind to make herself a good girl
...so I ask where are symbolisms in Mikoto's T3 MV??? At least add the ghost of John watching over Mikoto before disappearing??? Maybe???

My new copium is that the report doesnt show childhood trauma incidents cause they are all repressed memories from Mikoto and John/another alter know all about it. So for Mikoto, he had a good childhood when in reality it wasn't.
there is 4 milgram characters that if you hate them for reasons outside of what they did to end up in milgram, i highly distrust you

Is this a safe space to admit that I really dislike the backlash the first part of Mikoto’s report is getting?
Kayano Mikoto grew up in a typical, middle-class home. He was sociable, well-liked, picked up most things with ease and excellence, and was generally a well-behaved and easy-going child.
This part. I feel a bit put off by the fact that people are furious over this part of Mikoto’s report.
I’m diagnosed with DID, and I too grew up in a typical, middle-class home. My parents were very white picket fence, 1950s America, bringing the neighbors baked goods and such. Idyllic on the surface, and everyone loved them. Still loves them.
That is precisely why everyone continually failed to help me as a child, including the police and child protective services who a few contacted over concerns of my treatment.
A life can seem normal and peaceful on the surface while actually being terrible, even in a typical, middle-class home. I actually had the fact that there was always a roof over my head and clothes on my back held against me when I didn’t like being kicked around by my family in other ways. My parents were able to hide behind their carefully constructed image, and here I am now with DID in my medical records.
I still have my qualms with Mikoto’s third trial, and I’m slowly warming up to certain parts of it, but some of the criticisms have been… not my favorite. Ugh.
