so I’m absolutely head-over-heels for Darkest Dungeon. I’ve played a lot of it, and the defining moment of my love affair with it so far has been losing my whole party for the first (and so far only) time. I learned a lot about why I play rogue-likes, why I tend to get attached to my characters, and why Dungeon is my favorite game of 2015 so far.

I spent the afternoon touring Gearbox studios today! these are the only pictures I was technically allowed to take, but I had a terrific time seeing a lot of really neat stuff and meeting a bunch of super nice people. this industry is amazing and Gearbox is a great example of what a AAA studio should be like.

I’M SO SORRY TO POST THIS A DAY LATE, I posted it on my sideblog yesterday and forgot to post it over here too.

when I started going to therapy at 13 my therapist was really perplexed by a lot of my behavior. I was there for other reasons but she pointed out to me that my body language, the way my facial expressions were, etc, were stereotypically male, and that I might “make people uncomfortable” with me. this stuck with me for quite a while. I’m AFAB and I had never realized before then what it had meant when I cried when I couldn’t wear the boy’s uniform at school or the strange swell of pride I’d had when someone had told my mom what a “handsome son” she had.

I got older (18-20 or so) and I started really seriously considering transitioning. I cut off all my hair, I dressed more masculinely, and I started binding full-time. I picked out a new name. I saved money for top surgery. and then, I got to be about 24-25 and I came to realize transitioning might not really be for me.

I started realizing that my whole thing was a lot more complicated than I thought, and that I didn’t have an end point for this long strange trip. I’m happier some days wearing makeup and extensions, and others I spend in a suit without them. I don’t want to “pick a side” and if that makes someone uncomfortable, then they’re just going to have to be uncomfortable.

if I’ve learned anything from the last 15 years it’s that there’s not always one easy solution for a problem, that there’s never an end to a personal journey, and that circumstances can always change.

a very impromptu and blurry video a friend of ours took of us at the PAX South crowd play of Tales from the Borderlands! we roped Vasquez in about halfway through. when we told the PR director we were married he was all "congratulations to Rhys and Vaughn, who've been married 12 years!" and someone in the audience went "is that happening in a future episode?" shout out to that guy. 

sweet fancy relish I had the best time at this con, and Telltale was amazing to us. please buy all of their games twice.

most of the rest of my in-costume photos I think. we hung out with Telltale (who were incredibly sweet and friendly!) for quite a while Sunday and Saturday night we got to draw for their raffle at the end of the playthrough panel. our friend got video of that but I'll have to get ahold of it. I think it was also broadcast on Twitch!
