Double threat: heavily armored lizardman with magic staff (Chris Achilleos cover art for Warlock 6, "The Fighting Fantasy Magazine," Oct/Nov 1985; originally used as the cover for some 1975 and later printings of the novel Swordships of Scorpio by Alan Burt Akers, a pseudonym of Kenneth Bulmer)
Some of the weirder and more obscure art I've created for my TTRPG The Magical Land of Yeld.
You can get it as a book or pdf from my site, DrivethruRPG, itch.io or a whole bunch of other places.
Lately, I've found myself looking for a game where I could focus more on politics, alliances, and relationship building rather than chasing one quest or another all over a map, and I ended up stumbling across @synstoria's Imperial Grace demo.
While I'm familiar with otome style games, I've never actually played one before and was thrilled to find one in a medieval fantasy style setting. I can honestly say after completing this demo, I would love to continue playing and want more from this project.
The Basics
Following the assassination of the emperor of Calydia, you play as his successor, an ambitious and quick-thinking woman who must play her cards well or risk her throne and, quite possibly, her empire.
The player is able to select from several customization options and name the empress, which allows for a nice personal touch.
Officially, there are four potential love interests in the game: the sweet and devoted Alexander, the cunning and beautiful Asha, grumpy energy personified (but still very fun) Theodore, and the calculating, mysterious Master of Murmurs, who will send Azriel fans into a frenzy from the moment he makes his appearance onscreen.
Note: According to the creators, the Master of Murmurs will be a DLC romance, so keep an eye out for that. I have a feeling it will be worth it.
First Impressions
I was surprised by how quickly this game managed to capture and hold my attention. It throws you right into the story and offers beautiful artwork. The characters, too, are better developed so far than I anticipated.
There is some leaning into tropes, but honestly, tropes work for a reason, and this game seems fully aware of their strengths.
The player is able to choose from four different focuses. My empress, Evanthe, is focused on diplomacy, and it became clear quickly that all actions taken have consequences.
It's too early to say much about the romance content, but my character did unlock some achingly sweet scenes with Alexander.
Romance and fantasy romance fans will absolutely find something to their liking if they are looking for a cozier gameplay style. The artwork is beautiful, and there's an option for the player to control spice levels in the game's settings.
If I'm to be completely honest about what this feels like, it's Wicked Grace come to life.
I will be uploading both the prologue and a sweet moment from a romance on my YouTube channel, so don't hesitate to check it out.

Play as the new Empress of Calidya through an otome game / visual novel rife with romance, ambition and deceit.
Who is Cthulhu – the ancient being who only sleeps, waiting for the stars to align once more?
“This video explores H. P. Lovecraft’s most famous creation – Cthulhu. Discover who he is, where he dwells, and why he remains one of the most terrifying figures in cosmic horror.”
PS: English isn’t my native language, but I see it as an adventure – just like DnD! I’ll get better over time, so you’re basically watching me ‘level up’ in real time.
