he rubbed the back of his neck, realizing how attacking he must have sounded. she seemed nice. and like she wanted to do a good job. “i guess. well…. uh…. should we get to know each other a bit? so it doesn’t look weird with no chemistry on screen?”

“that’s a good idea!” she enthused, nodding her head. “it’ll make the music video better! i’m kaori-- it’s nice to meet you.”

“you’re right-- some companies have a sound that keeps everything consistent across the board, but new age has chaos and good choreography,” she laughed

“jieun signed with l3thal. she’s going to be just fine,” liyang deflected. “and do you think they’d’ve even known who she was without ip?”

“she’s really good. eventually people would have. maybe less people, but they would. underground artists are found all the time.”

“it definitely suits you, but you’re super pretty– i bet you could pull off anything,” she assured her.

“ah! thanks, that’s really nice of you,” kaori said with a little whine. “you’re pretty too, chunja. idol material.”

“no offense but…why are you going to be in our music video?” taiga asked curiously. “usually spotlight casts people in-house. you know, tries to promote trainees by featuring them in seniors’ music videos. i feel like it’s weird for them to stray away from that.” @kaorvi​

“beats me-- if i find out, i’ll let you know,” kaori said with a tiny shrug. “maybe they want to keep a tighter lid on the trainees you have, you know? keep them a secret? i don’t know why they wouldn’t just use another idol they have but....i’m happy to be here anyway! i’ll work hard.”

rvxrosie​:

“or have someone else sing it…..or have more people lift me….or have daiyu be one of the people lifting me because she’s strong….” rosie listed. “so many directions, but they chose chaos.”

“maybe chaos is the move. it suits us all, i think. it suits my group more, but it still suits us,” she sighed.

“something bright and fun. like teal or hot pink. i want it to really pop– i don’t want to do it halfway.”

“i mean, go big or go home! i hope for a vega comeback at some point or something they do something fun with my hair! the brown with the bangs is cute, but it’s all ive ever done.”

“i’m sure it had something to do with the symbolism of the lyrics but…towards the end of those promotions, i told songyi that she should just carry out a stepstool for me to stand on instead,”

“okay, but then have you sing it but someone else get lifted-- i think it still has the same effect. i dunno. it just seemed like a dumb risk to me.”

“neither are the idol project groups, but the chance is all gone– every idol project group is going to go well. it’s not fair.”

“maybe in the moment, but that doesn’t guarantee success away from it. the moment unity is gone, do you really think seyeon’s still going to be a household name? or jieun? or dokyoung?”

“you know, i should dye my hair,” chunja announced thoughtfully. “i just think it’d be fun. and it would annoy my mom, which is a bonus. plus, if people saw me going in and out of the higher building with cool hair, someone would probably think i’m an idol or a trainee and i think that’s funny”

[kaorvi]

“oh, please! i want to live vicariously through you! what color are you going for?”

[rvliyang]

“idol project groups are such a scam,” liyang whined. “i train for almost ten years, and get baseline success when i debut, but these people go on a show for two months and explode to the moon? that’s not fair at all.”

[kaorvi]

“i mean, i guess so but...no one really owes you anything, liyang. you’re not owed a good debut. it’s just up to chance.”

[kaorvi]

rvxrosie​:

“thanks! i’m definitely getting more used to it. and it’s nice to not be lifted every stage anymore– half the butterfly stages, i was convinced i was going to die. i trust hinata and mija, but some of those days we were all so tired and i could feel their arms shaking…”

“yein’s so nice and such a good choreography, but why on earth were you the one who got lifted? you’re the tallest one in your group!” kaori exclaimed

“you think so?” rosie asked, looking at the screen. she didn’t get a ton of screentime– it made her happy to see that some shots got kept in the music video. even if she didn’t have as many cool shots as jiwon or missy. “i felt like it was kind of cringey. like i was trying too hard to look cool. but if you think it looked awesome, then i believe you! you’re my biggest critic!” she laughed

“i bet the raw cut of the music video was super cringe,” kaori admitted with a laugh. “but the shots they chose looked great! and the stages have all looked super cool too!”

[rvjenny]

“i know my comeback probably would’ve done better if i’d done the traditional music show circuit, but i honestly don’t know that i can bring myself to care,” jenny mused. she was proud of her album, and the two singles she’d released, but while well received, both she and siren were aware it had under-performed win-wise. “i think i’m just too old to keep up with all of it any more. like, i love my music, but brave new world promotions provided more than enough rushing between programs for this quarter. i have no idea how people manage such crazy schedules.”

[kaorvi]

“it’s not that bad! tiwi unnie probably has it the worst, but she’s really smart about managing her time. she gets kind of grumpy towards the end of promotion schedules but....we all do,” kaori answered

[rvjess]

“you know, seeing more and more altos in kpop has been really refreshing the past few years,” jinjoo admitted. “in my first groups, they always made me rap because my voice was deeper, even though i’m not a great rapper. and even when we cover old reign songs, i usually do yein’s old parts, because they’re more rap-centric. i dunno– i guess it just means a lot that more and more companies are letting good altos sing, and not relegating them to less important roles just because their voices are a little deeper.”

[kaorvi]

“japan’s like that sometimes-- i think they’re better in some ways, but worse in others,” kaori replied thoughtfully. “like.....izumi unnie got picked as a vocalist in compass because her voice was deeper, but mainstream pop has so many kids in it, or people who started as kids, that the voices just stay high pitched.”

[rvhimari]

“come on, now, i won’t bite,” himari said, biting back a smile as she saw the person hesitating to sit next to her. “i only play a violent psychopath on television. i promise you, i’m very nice out of the ring.”

“oh no! i was just trying to remember if you were one of the ones who was japanese. i...speak korean now, but my japanese is just a lot better. i was going to ask if the seat was taken,” kaori explained.
