dissection - self portrait

i deal with body dysmorphia that is tied to my gender identity and ocd. one way i have come to deal with it is to find a favorite pair of pants and wear those almost constantly, because they’re a reliable way to conceal what’s bothering me. however, there are times that the pants don’t work, and it can cause me to spiral and grasp for reassurance through body checking and other rituals that usually just do more damage. i wanted to represent that feeling in this self portrait through the imagery of dissection, which is how these rituals often feel. i’ve come a long way this past year but still struggle with my appearance at times. self portraits like this are a way of processing my emotions and they also help me to see my body from a more neutral perspective.
