Kappa Kappa Psi (via claritreble)
Come out and eat some bread this evening.
Hey Everybody! It's Brother of the Week time! Today, I get the honor of highlighting a truly amazing brother. She really embodies brotherhood, service, and passion and, whether she believes it or not, is a great inspiration to not only our chapter, but our band as a whole. I'm proud to introuduce: Sarahbeth!
Sarahbeth is 20 years old, became a brother in the Fall of 2013, and is a part of the Alpha Tau class!. Her nickname is Evangeline, she is in the Traditional Line, her big is Allison, and her sibling is Jasmine.
Fraternal Number: 201
Positions Held: Brotherhood Chair
Major: Elementary and Special Education
Year in School: Junior
Instrument(s): Baritione/Euphonium and Color Guard
Expected Graduation: Spring 2017
We asked Sarahbeth: "Why did you join KKPsi?" She said:
the brothers, the atmosphere and the service.
"So Sarahbeth, what are your favorite memories of being a brother so far?":
Singing our hymn, watching my sibling go through her process, and getting the honor of being an officer in a new and very malleable office where I can try new things and test my own limits.
As all college experiences come to an end, we asked Sarah for her post-graduation plans. She said:
Become a teacher for an inclusive classroom and be as involved as I can be with my college band and KKPsi.
Fun Fact Time! Give us three (or more), Sarahbeth:
I love giraffes and purple and mermaids. I used to have super long hair but then I cut it off and I'm still getting used to it. I despise compliments, I'm not sure why exactly. I love pillows and blankets and they're the best thing ever. I feel like I'm a pretty easy person to talk to, so do it! :)
Anything else?:
Contact me if you have any bonding or brotherhood ideas for our chapters to get closer or some I can try with my own chapter. Or even if you just wanna talk and get to know some brothers at Towson University! I would also love to know your favorite traditions in your own chapters so please let me know!
As we like to end each questions segment with a quote, so here's sarahbeth's favorite:
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Sarahbeth is is such an important part of Iota Delta and a ray of sunshine to everyone she meets. Sarah has been a part of our marching band for 3 seasons, kicking-butt in the low brass section. You can also find Sarahbeth cheering on our basketball team in our Pep Band! Sarahbeth is so talented, that she even has experience in color guard. If you ever find yourself in Towson, be on the look out for Sarahbeth lifting heavy equipment during tear down, leading a bonding activity during our chapter meetings, or planning an AMAZING trip to enhance our brotherhood. Thanks for the interview Sarahbeth, and see you all next week where we'l highlight another awesome Iota Delta brother.
Hello all! It's been a while, but we're back with Brother of the Week! This week, we're highlighting our most traveled brother, Molly!
Molly is 21 years old, became a brother in Spring 2012, and is a part of the Alpha Pi class. Her nickname is Earhart, she is a part of the Earring Line, and her Big Brother is Meghan Bowers.
Fraternal Number: 184
Offices Held: 25th Anniversary Chair ,Alumni Relations Officer Northeast District Secretary/Treasurer
Major: Music Education and Psychology
Year in School: Senior
Instrument: Clarinet
Expected Graduation: Spring 2015
We asked Molly, "Why did you join KKPsi?". She said:
I found a group of people that loved the same things I did. It only made sense to make them my family! Service is something I would do with or without my brothers because I enjoy it and I love working with people who feel the same.
Next, we asked her for her favorite memory of being a brother so far, and she said:
Sitting in NED Convention 2013 where I decided I wanted to run for a district office. I told my big (who has held two different offices on district council) and she nearly fell down the stairs. I realized at that convention how passionate I was about Kappa Kappa Psi.
As Molly's college career is coming to a close soon, we inquired about her after graduation plans. She told us:
I want to be a music teacher! Somehow I would like to incorporate my Psychology degree into the music world, but I'm unsure of how I want to do that yet.
Fun Fact Time! Here are 3 things you may not have known about Molly:
1.) I've performed in concerts in 6 different countries. 2.) I love meeting new people and traveling to new places! 3.) Hedgehogs are my favorite animal!
"Anything else you'd like us to know, Molly":
Kappa Kappa Psi is the most important thing in the world to me. I love talking about it!
As with all of our other fantastic BOTW posts, we ask our participant to leave us with a quote. Molly chose:
"Some people care too much, I think it's called love." -Winnie the Pooh
Molly is a wonderful asset to our chapter! She is one of our many brothers that have gotten the opportunity to serve on the Northeast District council! She's gotten to travel up and down the east coast, meeting and guiding the best and the brightest of the "Nation's Elite District" and we could not be more proud! Molly is a very talented musician who is very involved with the bands at Towson. She has been a part of our Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Pep Band, and Concert Band! Molly has served as a drum major for our band in the 2013 season and did a wonderful job! If you find yourself in Towson, you'll find Molly in the clarinet section, maintaing relations with our alumni, or teaching lessons at a local music store. Iota Delta is proud to have such a fantastic brother representing our chapter all along the east coast. Thanks for participating, Molly! AEA!
Iota Delta brothers setting up registration for Junior/Senior Honor Band! Despite our early report time of 6 am (during finals week), the brothers are always ready to serve.
This week's Brother of the Week is so special. This week, we would like to honor a brother that has done so much for not only the Iota Delta chapter, but for the Towson University Bands and is close to moving to the next stage of his life. Trevor Hedrick is a fantastic brother, band member, and person and we are so happy to be able to honor him with this post!
Trevor is 24 years old, became a brother in the Spring of 2009, and is a part of a special class of only one: the Alpha Lambda.5 class, having transferred from the Lambda Lambda chapter of KKPsi at Indiana State University in Spring 2010. Trevor's nickname is Apollo, is a part of the Celestial Line, and his little brother is Andrew Garonzik.
Fraternal Number: 165
Positions Held: Vice President of Membership, Corresponding and Recording Secretary, Joint Secretary, Alumni Relations Officer
Major: Music Education
Year in School: Senior
Trevor plays the Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Mellophone and is expected to graduate in the Spring of 2015.
We asked Trevor why he decided to join Kappa Kappa Psi, he said:
"Family!"
Next, we asked Trevor for his favorite memory of being a brother so far. Here was his response:
"Having the opportunity to have a little."
Trevor is nearing the end of his undergraduate career, so we asked him for his post-graduation plans. He told us:
"Teach music to little humans. :)"
"Alright Trevor, give us 3 (or more) fun facts about yourself!":
1. I play didgeridoo 2. I own a pit bull 3. I'm in the process of learning Swedish.
Trevor is such an influential and high spirited guy. He has been here for great changes in our chapter and has been an active part in said change. Trevor has been a part of the Clarinet section in our band as a section leader, as well as serving as a drum major for 3 seasons. Trevor has also been a part of our Symphonic band, Pep band, and Concert band. You might be thinking "Wow, Trevor is so involved in music! There can't possible be anything else!" Well, Trevor has been a part of the 2013 National Intercollegiate Band, marched a season with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp, and has led the Indiana State University Marching Band as a Drum Major. Thank you for all that you do, Trevor! We wish you nothing but the best and good luck in all of your future endeavors!
Brother of the Week time! (Sorry it's been a little while, school is crazy)
This week, we're highlighting Jenny Wegman!
Jenny is 19 years old, became a brother in Spring '14, and is a part of the Alpha Upsilon class. Jenny's nickname is Starfire, she is in the Revolution line, her big is Douglas Jones, and she has a twin! (Armon Raygani)
Fraternal Number: 212
Positions Held: Historian and Public Relations Officer
Major: Music Education
This is Jenny's 3rd semester at Towson, and she is a Clarinet/Saxophone player
We asked Jenny why she joined Kappa Kappa Psi. She said:
I wanted to serve the bands in the best way possible, and I realized that KKPsi had great opportunities to meet others that were as passionate as me in music.
Because unfortunately college must end, we asked Jenny for her after-graduation plans. She responded:
Attend graduate school for performance, and then teach or find a gig in a professional band
"So Jenny, give us some fun facts about yourself!":
1) I lived overseas for eight years of my life in Germany and Jordan. 2) I have a golden retriever named Sahara that we adopted in Jordan. 3) I wanted to be an environmental scientist in middle and high school, but then quickly realized it wasn't for me.
To end this great interview with Jenny, we asked her for a quote, and she gave us two! She said:
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss "When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest." -Henry David Thoreau
Jenny is a phenomenal clarinet player with high hopes for the future. Jenny just completed her second season with the TUMB, as well as her 3rd season in the Towson Symphonic Band where she has sat 1st chair, and her 1st season with the Towson University Symphony Orchestra. Jenny loves to travel, has a positive attitude and always there to lend a helping hand. Thanks for the interview, Jenny! If you want, you can follow Jenny on Instagram @wegwoman
Brother of the Week!
This week, we are highlighting a great brother, Niew Bharyaguntra!
Niew is 21 years old, became a brother in the Fall of 2011, and is a part of the Alpha Omicron class. Niew's nickname is Thumper, she's in the Phoenix Line, and her big is Amanda Purcell!
Fraternal Number: 179
Positions Held: Treasurer, Joint Secretary, Brotherhood Chair
Major: Theater Design and Production
This is Niew's 9th and final semester here at Towson and she is a Trombone player
We asked Niew why she joined Kappa Kappa Psi, she said:
"Ultimately, I needed something transitional in my life that would motivate me to work hard every day. I was already doing the service subconsciously during band and then when I had learned that a majority of my friends were already in KKPsi, it seemed only right. KKPsi gives me that motivation and so much more beyond that!"
We asked Niew for some of her favorite memories of being a brother, she responded:
"I think some of my most favorite memories are the ones when we're going crazy because we're exhausted from the day's work. There's this happiness in the air regardless of how tired we are and I just love that. I remember there was this one game where it began to pour right as the game was ending. You would think we'd get upset having to clean up in the pouring ran but there wasn't a frown around. It was the most fun I had while doing service. We were out in the rain for a solid 40 minutes but every second was perfect."
Because Niew is graduating in December, we asked Niew for her after-graduation plans, and she graciously told us this:
GO TO DISNEYWORLD! Also, I'm moving back home to the D.C area. I'll continue working for Arena Stage in their Community Engagement department while finding more theatre gigs around the Baltimore/D.C area. You can catch me assistant stage managing at Rep Stage at HCC in March for their final production of the season, "Venus in Fur"!!! But really, I'm also going to Disney World and indulging in the fact that I won't have to do any school work for a while.
"Niew, tell us at least 3 fun facts about you":
I'm a first generation Asian-American!
I LOVE ELEPHANTS.
I like cooking!
Anything Else you'd like to add, Niew?:
Give me a job. Lol, just kidding! (But really....)
To wrap up her BotW post, we asked Niew for her favorite quote. She said:
"Love art in yourself and yourself in art." - Stanislavski
Niew is an integral part of the theater department here at Towson, and has been apart of productions of Spring Awakening, The Colored Museum, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Sadness of Small Cakes, and so many more. Niew is very passionate about theater as well as this brotherhood, and although we are sad to see her go, we know she will do amazing things in the theater world and represent KKPsi well! Niew participated in the Towson University Marching Band for 3 seasons and was a part of the Low Brass section, as well as our Tiger Pep Band. Congrats to you Niew on your coming graduation and we wish you nothing but the best in whatever you choose to do! AEA always <3
Because our Tumblr page is still fairly new, we are trying to do some cool things with it! One of the ideas we had was to do a "Brother of the Week" kind of thing so you can get to know our active chapter. Every week, we're going to highlight a new brother with some cool facts that they wanted to share. First we have...
Andrew Cheng!
He is 21 years old, became a brother of KKPsi in the Fall of 2012, and was a part of the Alpha Rho class. His nickname is Urban Samurai, he is in the Traditional line, and his Big Brother is Andrew Baker.
Fraternal Number: 189
Positions Held: Historian/Public Relations Officer and is currently serving as our CAP (Chapter Assessment Program) Chair
Andrew is a Senior, Criminal Justice major and is expected to graduate in Fall 2015
When asked "Why did you decide to join KKPsi?" he said:
I joined KKPsi because music is my life. I've been playing music for as long as I can remember, and KKPsi is a group of people who are all just as passionate about it as I am. On top of that I love helping people. Being able to make somebody else's life easier is an extremely gratifying feeling, and serving the bands here allows me to do that on a nearly daily basis.
When asked "What are your favorite memories of being a Brother so far?" he said:
The Texas trip was amazing. It was a lot of sitting around and waiting, but I absolutely loved the snow rehearsal! The game was a great experience, and we even got to load a plane! Other than that my favorite memories are all just great times that I've had hanging out with my Iota Delta family!
Andrew's after graduation plans are as follows:
Two plans! Plan A) Get rich and famous playing with Stacked Like Pancakes! Plan B) Apply to every police department in Maryland and hopefully go to the Academy and become a police officer!
We asked Andrew for 3 (or more) fun facts! Here were his responses:
I play in a ska band called Stacked Like Pancakes! I have a pet python named Monty! I'm a huge Washington Capitals fan!
And to wrap it all up, we asked Andrew for a favorite quote:
"The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible." -Arthur C. Clarke
Andrew has been a part of our marching band for 4 semesters, as well as several other instrumental ensembles on our campus. If you ever find yourself at a Towson football game or marching band performance, be sure to look out for Andrew! You can find him in the Low Brass Section. As mentioned before, Andrew plays in a Ska Band. If you want to check out their music and performance info, head on over to stackedlikepancakes.com!
