I feel as though there's a bit of a misconception between Aether's and Lumine's personalities whenever I scroll through Tumblr.
Let me begin by saying that, no. No, Aether is not the more violent between the twins. No, Aether is not hotheaded compared to Lumine.
If you actually check the manga or perhaps go in depth to analyze the different ways the twins speak (I personally stick with the JP VAs because Paimon doesn't sound like she's going to dig out my ear drums every time she talks in the EN Voiceover) you'd find that when push comes to shove, Aether is a more remorseful guy who wears his heart on his sleeve whereas Lumine is a more violent girl who hides her feelings a lot.
I think the reason why a lot of people believe Aether's a lot more violent than Lumine is because they think wearing your feelings out in the open may cause some trouble or perhaps when Aether feels angry, he'd lash out. That's not neccesarily true. Lumine, from what I've gathered before she was thrown in the presumed years of the Archon War, had been the angrier twin between her and Aether. I hate it when people downplay her actions and turn her into this soft and gentle person who's all bubbly and stuff. She's not that type of person. She's straightforward and poker faced in the face of danger, she boils up in anger every time a close friend or a loved one gets hurt. She's the type to aggressively love you.
Aether, on the other hand, may be the older twin, but is a lot more gentler than his sister. He's the type to be a bit cautious, paranoid, but never acts on it. He's the type to be nervous or jumpy in the face of danger with a scrunched up face with cold sweat from anticipation or anxiety. Basically he wears his feelings, again, on his sleeve. He doesn't bother hiding it like Lumine and that, my friend, are the subtles of differences in their actions that mirror their personality.
Just because Lumine is known as the Light and Aether is known as the Dark doesn't mean that Aether is darker in mind and heart than Lumine. From my perspective, I find Lumine to actually be the darker one of the twins despite her name and costume design. Aether is the more lighthearted one and when push comes to shove, he'd be the one to forgive the most easily compared to Lumine who would be a bit more stubborn in her opinions. I also feel like a lot of people project onto Lumine or Aether and sometimes I find, funnily, that their personalities swap in certain fanfics or doujins. E.g. Childe. With Aether, he doesn't fully forgive Childe but he doesn't blame the Harbinger either, not to the extent of killing the dude every time they meet. His opinions are set when he meets Teucer, that Childe is very much someone who would do anything for his family and that, he can understand. Perhaps the understanding between them with family being taken away from them or being taken away from your family for a long period of time is like a catalyst for understanding between the two. With Lumine, (I don't main Lumine but I've seen the cutscenes with Lumine) she's more, as I've said before, poker faced and a lot wearied towards Childe whenever she sees him. It doesn't change that much when Teucer arrives in the story but she's found respect for Childe, although perhaps not to the extent of being closer to Childe in a sense unlike Aether. She's still paranoid from last time she trusted him, of course.
Oh! I've mentioned that Aether is a forgiving person whereas Lumine is a stubborn personality yes? Well, Aether is definitely a more forgiving person, he easily forgives anyone especially when he sees their past and stuff and connect the dots to why they turned out the way they turned out. If this were a Modern AU, trust me, Lumine would be a hovering figure wherever Aether goes because she's paranoid in her brother's stead. (LMAO, I HC that she always has Childe or a few agents hover over Aether from behind bushes or talk to him and report his wellbeing back to her every single day). Lumine is a stubborn personality. Yes. I said it. Her objective outlook on her side will never change unless she is convinced-convinced because she seems like the type to stick to her opinions a lot harder than everyone else. She doesn't change her perspective on people, rather, she adds more information on her perspective on people. With Zhongli, perhaps at first she sees him like how Aether sees him, but later on, Aether would be the one to forgive the god whereas Lumine would be the one to top on a 'So he's a manipulative person too' to his ever growing personality traits.
I think I've ranted(?) Idk if this is a rant, too much. Forgive me. I hope this doesn't confuse you, I am literally going as I type aha.
